Not a great result in Vegas as the Gophers go down to the Fighting Hawks 3-1. We discuss that along with the proposed recruiting changes that are coming down the pipeline for the NCAA. We then preview the home & home series with Mankato. You can listen to the podcast above, or via iTunes / Google Play. Check out older episodes on the Podcast Page.
Instead of doing a story about Bob Motzko, the new hockey coach at Minnesota… I thought I would just head down to the U and capture the event in pictures. There were a lot of familiar faces at the news conference today. To see all three of the most recent coaches together was pretty special. (Woog, Lucia & Motzko) So below are a few of my favorite photos from today.
With Wisconsin coach Tony Granato away at the Olympics, the Gophers played to a 7-1 victory at Kohl Center on Saturday. Minnesota swept the Badgers in front of a sellout crowd of 15,359 and leapfrogged their rivals from fifth to fourth in the Big Ten Standings with two weeks to go in the regular season. Minnesota (18-13-1 overall, 9-10-1-1 Big Ten) got off to a quick start with Leon Bristedt, Brent Gates. Jr. and Tyler […]
Pitlick Scores Seventh Goal, Sheehy Finds Fourth Goal Minneapolis, Minn. — Harvard goaltender Merrick Madsen made Minnesota anxious Saturday as he stonewalled the Gophers for over 54 minutes, but late goals by Rem Pitlick and Tyler Sheehy earned No. 7 Minnesota the sweep in front of 8,845 at 3M Arena at Mariucci. Madsen made 48 saves on the night, looked comfortable, challenged shooters with his 6’ 5” frame the whole night and it took 50 […]
Schierhorn Makes 21 Saves for 10th Career Shutout Minneapolis, Minn. — It wasn’t exactly a Picasso for the Gophers, but they made enough brush strokes to sweep the Spartans with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. “We haven’t proven to be an offensive juggernaut,” head coach Don Lucia said. “We just kind of methodically get to 2 or 3 or 4, enough to win games.” No. 5 Minnesota (7-3-0 overall, 3-1-0-0 Big Ten) got the first […]
Three Thoughts from 3M Arena at Mariucci Minneapolis, Minn. — Minnesota ended a streak of splits and poor specialty team play with a pair of home wins over No. 9 Clarkson. The power play produced three goals on 10 opportunities and the penalty kill did its job on all four shorthanded situations. Senior assistant captains Leon Bristedt and Mike Szmatula scored their first goals of the season, both on the power play, and junior goaltender […]
McManus Hat Trick Propels Gophers Past Penn State 6-3 Minneapolis, Minn. — The 10-minute game has been getting a lot of attention early this season when assessing Minnesota’s play. The No. 7 Gophers (2-2-0, 1-1-0-0) once again showed the bad on Friday, but responded with the good in their second game of the weekend with a 6-3 win over No. 11 Penn State (2-2-0, 1-1-0-0) in front of 8,114 at 3M Arena at Mariucci. “Right […]
