Scott Reedy ended up with four assists, all of which were first assists. Sure is nice to have him back.

How short of personnel was this Arizona St. team? They missing a bunch of guys? Seemed like the JV team of the squad we played a few weeks ago.

I guess you have to give them credit for making the trip up here and playing despite being down 7 guys.
It did look like they were skating with everyone who was available and I wouldn't be surprised if that was a factor in the generous call against Jansons.

I can understand a certain amount of sympathy, but that should only go so far.

If Wisconsin-Madison is the state's most prestigious university and the state itself is known as The Dairy State, does that mean UW is Bovine University?

Wondering if the Arizona players were ill. They couldn’t keep up. Hope they keep Covid to themselves.

I don't believe there was any Rona. Just injuries and other illnesses. Just happened all at once.

Oh crikey! We have stumbled upon a typical Minnesota sports fan...not a rare find, but interesting nonetheless. Observe how they pray for a win, and when it happens, it's not satisfying enough. You can see by the tone of their post they are attempting sarcasm, but by their behaviour they are really showing their true emotions. Quite fascinating, really, noticing the nuances. If you study them close enough, you may find yourself adapting, and becoming a cynic yourself!

If you would have told me 15 years ago that in the future the Gophers and Arizona State are going to play a hockey game this is what I would have expected the score to be.

I have a couple of non-hockey friends that asked, "Wait, ASU has a team?!" My response has been along these lines:

I was surprised to know it has been SEVENTEEN YEARS! since our last double digits, and since 2002 that we beat a team by 10+ goals.

We shouldn’t wait so long next time. How about tonight - time for a new streak!

Gophers steam rolling fir sure, but that game was just pure fan value. I'd rather they were challenged by top teams. I think the teams coming out of the tough conferences will be better prepared for post season.

Someone else said it, and I agree, Nelson was a beast last night . Very noticeable. Gophers hardly took a shift off and their passing was insane.

My hopes for tonight--
Come out with the same intensity as last night.
Give Moe the start.
That Ryan Johnson gets his 1st career goal.
Nelson, Brodzinski and Perbix get some puck luck.
Give Rossini a game.

I'm a little surprised Ryan Johnson hasn't scored a goal yet. Just with out good he can be in the offensive zone. I know he got at least one in World Juniors. I want to say it was in the quarter or semifinals. It'd be fun to see him pop one in soon

Was that the same game a puck hit one of the glass stanchions (back before it was seamless) and caromed directly into the net? I seem to recall that happening in a blowout game. It happened on the section 1 end and the puck hit the glass way off on the side which made it all the more incredulous.

Chris Harrington very nearly did something similar against Niagara. He was just dumping the puck into the zone before going off on a change. The Niagara goalie assumed it was going to cling to the boards and went to stop the puck along the end wall only to look back and see the puck careening towards the open net. He made a stick save barely in time though and snapped his paddle on the post in the process.

I have a video of that saved somewhere. The late Wooger's belly laugh from that was one of my favorite memories of the guy.

As I look through the box scores, the Paul Martin goal may have been against Yale in the 2002 Mariucci classic. Not 100% sure though

The win would have been impressive if: AZ wouldn't have had 6 of their players out of the lineup. & AZ has been on the road for all of their games. Go Gophers!

We seem to get the lucky goals against Colgate, Huntsville, etc when we are up by about ten. Our unlucky goals against seem to be against Michigan St in the third period of the final four in like '87 and against North Dakota in the WCHA playoff championship overtime . But I could be biased with some selective memory.

Regardless of the sport NEVER let an inferior team hang around. I think the Gophers will still win, but if this is still tied late your inviting trouble.

If you would have told me 15 years ago that in the future the Gophers and Arizona State are going to play a hockey game this is what I would have expected the score to be.
I was surprised to know it has been SEVENTEEN YEARS! since our last double digits, and since 2002 that we beat a team by 10+ goals.

We shouldn’t wait so long next time. How about tonight - time for a new streak!

20 goals impressive but lets just enjoy it for what iit is. we just played a team on the end of a 22 game road trip, missing 7 and at times playing a club goalie.

Motzko post game:

Not indictitive of ASU program

ASU put up a fight thru 2

tliked hiw team played offense, need some work on defense monday.

team feels good, played well, got bad taste out of mouth from ND and now need two days rest (funny to say)

liked defense as part of offense but need to tighten some things up

Moe played well and faced some shots

3 Stars

3. Perbix
2. Meyer
1. McLaughlin

Did College Hockey Stats send their interns to Mariucci? Lately it seems like their live box scores have been having great difficulty keeping up and looked like they just gave up trying to update on the fly after McLaughlin's second goal tonight.

Am I wrong that the 1st goal both nights were mirror images of each other?

Last time the Gophers scored 20+ the same weekend? I'm going to guess vs. UAA.

The first 5-10 minutes of the next game will be an eye opener, playing against a varsity team instead of the JV.

Our dog often gets agitated when we jump up or yell after a goal (he’s a neurotic border collie mix). So I’ve been trying to include him in the fun by asking him to come over and give me a high five after goals. He hates having his paws touched so he would halfheartedly throw his paw at me and grumble in disgust.
I decided Thursday night I’d reward him after a goal and high five with a treat. Boy did he luck out his weekend!
He knew I had a stash of treats though and pretty much spent the entirety of both games just staring at me. 🐕😂

It was like ASU gave up after that shorty. 4-2 after 2 was a pretty hard fought game on their part, especially with a depleted bench. Then they screwed up on the PP and then decided that they just wanted to go home.

Imagine being on the road since New Years, haven’t seen anyone besides your teammates, and living out of hotel rooms in cold weather. I can’t blame them for wanting to go home to warmer weather where they can actually see other people. Not to mention the scenery in Tempe isn’t all that bad.

Another tape delay night but glad I waited to find out what happened. In the words of Ron White, FU€K YEAH!!

And hey, the double digit streak is still alive!

What a great way to start the weekend! :M: :M2:
Parked my car at home at the very start of the ASU PP in the 3rd, 4-2 MN. I walk 3 flights of stairs to my apt, immediately turn radio on. 8-2 Gophers.
I was honestly WT :censored:
 My husband went downstairs to get a beer, 2 flights, then poured it in a glass, 2 flights back up. He sits down and I said “you missed 3 goals”. He laughed and then saw the score! He was pisssssed.
Pissed he missed the goals because you didn’t pause the TV?

Re: #4 Gophers vs Arizona St-- Round 2 -- Jan 21 & 22

I know some will complain that these games don't really tell anything about the Gophers, but I disagree. This is what they needed. A reset. A feel good weekend. I liked the fact that they kept the foot on the gas. I liked that Sammy Walker and McLaughlin kept pushing. With no more weekends off for a while, they were able to roll all the lines, and give Moe a start. I do have to give the Devils a tip of the hat for not really gooning it up, other than the hit in game one. One thing I noticed about the Devils is they seemed to try to score "highlight" goals. It appeared when they were close to the net they tried the "between the leg shot" many times. On to Ohio State and I hope that the Gophers can keep the intensity up for that series. Plus, for me, because I can't attend the games in person, I really don't mind the Thursday- Friday games or the earlier starts. Plus, 2 hour games are great. The Wild did not even start the 3rd until the 2 hour mark. I know next year things will go back to normal, but I don't mind the change this year.
