.5 back!
The Twins don't necessarily have an easy track the last 4 games (one with Detroit then 3 at Cincy) but Chicago still has 2 against Cleveland and 3 against the Cubs IIRC. Sure would be neat if they only win 1-2 of those final 5 games.

From what I've been hearing, the pennant is but a bonus. Just get home field during the messed up playoff format. I would have to agree.

4th seed and you're playing the 32-23 Yankees. 3rd seed gets you the 27-27 Astros.

Winning the division probably means no Yankees in Rd 1. With how they are hitting lately, I'd like to avoid them. Let Chicago or Cleveland deal with that lineup and try their luck. They've won 11 of their last 13 and scored 6 or more runs in like 9 of those 11, including 5 games with 10+ runs. They have been sketchy on the road, much like the Twins, but still. With the way Voit is mashing the ball and with Stanton and Judge both coming off the IL in the last week, that lineup is wicked. I'd be OK with them taking on the Cleveland pitching staff in round 1 personally. 🤷‍♂️

Twins get home field? Bring it on. Best record in MLB. I don't care who it is.

Sure hope the Twins share that attitude. It seems to me that confidence - or lack thereof (especially in the past against the Yankees) - is huge.

In 2006 they threw themselves a parade for avoiding the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs and then still got swept.

Cleveland walks off against Chicago with a Jonathan Luplow HR. If things continue on their current track the Twins will be back in first place in the central.

Cabrera made no mistake with that meatball.

Romo gets the next guy to ground out to seal the win, the game should not have been this interesting.

So - in the last 15-20 years who else can you think of that was a high average Power hitter. I’d argue he’s possibly the best other than Trout.

Pujols is probably the greatest RHH of all time (Trout will eventually pass him if he continues on his current pace). I'd put Cabrera right in that next group. His power numbers have dropped off quite a bit since he hit age 34 (only 38 HRs in 360ish games since then) but part of that is due to injuries too. He's still a pretty damn effective hitter.

If the Twins win 2/3 against Cincinnati and the White Sox don't sweep the Cubs, the Twins will likely host Houston in the first round (if the season ended today they would host Houston). The Twins have a one game lead against the White Sox but Chicago would win the tie breaker for the division if they end up with the same record.

Depending on how everything else shakes out, they could potentially end up with the #1 seed (they trail Tampa by 2 games and assuming the Dodgers don't blow the 5 run lead in the 8th, will actually have a half game lead on the As for the #2 seed, which would give them a series against Cleveland.

Not sure how they plan to proceed after the first round WRT reseeding etc., but as it sits now they could potentially play Houston then Oakland. The White Sox would draw the Yankees in round one in what could be a very fun match up.

I thought I heard today on the Fan that if CLE somehow makes it a 3 way tie for the division, the Twins have the tiebreaker. Unlikely scenario, but who knows? I mean, it IS 2020.

Saw a link that showed the playoff series record for all MLB franchises and the Twins are in last at 6-13. 6-7 while not playing the Yankees would put them 15th best. Some playoff wins sure would be nice.
Currently under construction.

That is possible. Not sure what the 3-way tie breaker is.

It's not necessarily unlikely. They play the absolutely atrocious Pirates and should definitely sweep that series so if the Twins and Sox only win 1 and 2 games respectively, they'd end up tied if my math is correct.

3-way tiebreaker within a division is best winning percentage in games played among the three (or four) teams in question.

I know covid totally screwed up the scheduling, but it’s a shame the Twins don’t play a division rival (like CLE/CWS) in their last series. I get you can’t predict the season, but I like how the NFL has week 17 all be intra-divisional games because every so often you get a win and in scenario. The drama is fun to watch.

Even in a regular season, there's no way to always schedule divisional games for the last series (odd number of teams in the division).

One thing I do note, however, is that all the series this last weekend are: Intra-divisional or Inter-league.

Every time the Twins have a threat and don't score, the Reds add another the next inning. Those are back breakers.

Wow, Twins have derailed in the 9th. 3 runs allowed, no outs, bases loaded.

Giving young power arm Edwar Colina a chance to show what he's got in case they want to add another power arm to the pen.

So, with this parade of doubles I got curious. Most individual doubles in a game is four. Done about 40 times, including Kirby. Team record is 13 by the Cardinals in 1931.

I like that Rocco is not set in roles and has already pulled Rogers out of a closer role. It’s nice to have a smart modern coach

Twins score the first run of the game on a balk in bottom 5. Which was about as balky as a balk gets. And the umpires still went to the replay booth.

For a non-reviewable play. How do they not know the rules?

Romo keeping it interesting here.

According to the algorithm if we lose and Chicago wins we play the Yankees.

Go twins and go cubs.

Probably because being able to rely on replay has made knowing the rules less important.

I want to see how that offense fares in a 3 game series against the Indians starting staff. The Yankees struggled against Tampa Bay this year and Cleveland has as good or better top of the rotation
