The Power Trip announced a Kickstarter to make the Initials Game an actual board game available for purchase. They set the goal at $30,000 and it is set to run for a month.
They hit the $30,000 goal before the Initials Game was even over (about 15 minutes), and it's currently at $84,000+
I don't think I've seen a local radio show with such a dedicated following. Kind of remarkable.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Every Friday they play it. Each week will have a specific set of initials, say "PK", for example. Every answer in the game will have those initials. Then Cory (the host) reads off clues, people try to guess what it is first.
Ex:
1. Originally from Wisconsin
2. Career has taken him to Toronto and Pittsburgh, among other places
3. Was criticized by Toronto media for eating too many hot dogs
4. Played college hockey at Minnesota
Answer: Phil Kessel
It makes for good radio, and has gotten really popular since they started doing it. Probably their marquee item of the whole show.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
They give 2 initials for the day then ask questions regarding some one or something and they try to answer the question
Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Since this is a Gopher hockey site I guessed the right answer to the above softball right away! But beyond that easy one I don't think I would do very well with the game. Things don't instantly pop into my old head as fast as they once did.

I don't think that's the price they will charge for a game, but rather the amount they are fundraising to develop and create the game, which they will in turn sell like other boardgames.MATT wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27 8:50 pmDamn I just went on to buy one and it’s up to 160k now.gopherguy13 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27 9:45 amThe Power Trip announced a Kickstarter to make the Initials Game an actual board game available for purchase. I pledged $40 which is the lowest pledge to get the game.Slap Shot wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28 1:42 amI don't think that's the price they will charge for a game, but rather the amount they are fundraising to develop and create the game, which they will in turn sell like other boardgames.MATT wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27 8:50 pmDamn I just went on to buy one and it’s up to 160k now.gopherguy13 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27 9:45 amThe Power Trip announced a Kickstarter to make the Initials Game an actual board game available for purchase. There is absolutely nothing going on in the sports world now. But every local newscast still has news weather and sports. At 20 past the hour they say "now lets toss it over to Joe Blow, who has nothing meaningful to talk about, for sports."
Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Trades, draft and signing info mostly dominates the sports segment.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
I wonder if planned or if accelerated. 'CCO was trying to trim costs and maybe he wasn't going to retire now but was told or given an incentive to do so?
Not saying that's true, just wondering. They did remove Esme Murphy from the radio side.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
I like Mike Lynch. The guy has personality, which helped getting weather info within the confines of what WCCO radio has evolved into the past 10 years...a 24-7 infomercial with a little bit of content sprinkled in. For those of us who listed to Cannon occasionally on the way home from work in the 1990’s or Eric Eskola playing Sid like a fiddle the Monday morning after Viking games...what’s happened to this radio station is SAD!
Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Other than the live sports they used to broadcast I quit listening to 'CCO when Steve Cannon retired.

I really liked Skor North, so I'm sad about this news. Unfortunately, with no sports on the horizon and the economy in the tank (presumably advertising revenue way down), this is probably just the beginning of job cuts for the whole industry.

And in this market, at least, loyalty is anound. There's a reason that KFAN is the top sports station, and KQ is the top morning show. In this area, we stick what we grew up with, fair or not. Not only that but you have to compete with those that listen to their own recorded music instead of listening to the radio which I do most of the time. I also had Sirius radio when I worked 40 Minutes from home because unless it's a Twins or Wild game I never listen to AM/FM, way to many ads for me..The Rube wrote: ↑Fri May 01 11:47 pmAnd in this market, at least, loyalty is anound. Sirius/XM for me also. About the only time I listen to AM/FM is on the way home from a Gophers hockey game for Frank and Wally's recap. As for other local sports like Gophers football, Vikings and Twins, I've usually set the DVR so when I'm in the car I don't listen because I don't want to know the score!GoldenRube wrote: ↑Sat May 02 8:02 amI also had Sirius radio when I worked 40 Minutes from home because unless it's a Twins or Wild game I never listen to AM/FM, way to many ads for me..

Louie was on today with Barreiro and they had Glen Sather on. It was some good radio for hockey fans, especially those who grew up in the Gretzky era. The stories those guys can tell and their memories are always amazing to me. They are rattling off who scored goals in games and who was traded for who. It is crazy to hear all the connections Louie has In the world of hockey.
President GWB said, "And it seems like Minnesota is pretty good at hockey, too."
"I think in the best interest of his career, he definitely would benefit from playing one more year of college," Gretzky said.

I really like the station because of it. I liken it to USCHO/GPL. Sports is the main focus, but hey, we can talk about other things, too.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the country you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

I’ll tread lightly here cuz I like this message board but to see your city the center of the worlds attention is a little odd.

No offense, but 170 businesses destroyed and hundreds of people out of their homes. Who gives a rats ass about a CNN reporter.

Re: Local Broadcasting/Media
Adds a little more fuel to the fire (no pun intended) that it was a person of color reporter and that right down the road a white reporter is able to continue doing his job. So on live TV we get an example of what the outrage is all about.Grovetown Scotty wrote: ↑Fri May 29 8:14 amNo offense, but 170 businesses destroyed and hundreds of people out of their homes.
