Looks like Stucker will be the only RHD next year. Doesn’t seem ideal.
Faber is right handed
Yep, not sure how I forgot about him.

The only thing we're excited about so far is his name. Anything else is just gravy. :D
We are also really excited about all the puns we have available to us. I think we’re just getting warmed up

Bob Motzko, men’s hockey coach at the University of Minnesota, called the high school coach of prospective recruit Carl Fish to learn more about the defenseman.

He received a glowing endorsement that went well beyond goals, assists and ice time.

“I told him, ‘He will be your captain before he’s out of there,’ ” said Steve “Moose” Younghans, longtime St. Paul Johnson head coach.

I just think he fits a role. A 3rd pair d man who hopefully will provide some grit and sandpaper that is much needed on this team. If his career mirrors Parenteau or Helgeson, I would be happy.
I like what I read about the kid and agree with you that he fills some voids on the blue line, but that doesn’t change how I feel about 21 year old freshmen. I think it’s a disgrace to college athletics!

Any recent insight on Noah Tussey? Social media still says committed, haven’t been impressed with him when I have seen him play, doesn’t compete real hard. Seems like many guys have passed him by in last year.

I agree that he has lacked compete when I’ve watched him. He has plenty of skill but he reminds me a lot of recent gophers who frustrated a lot of fans. He doesn’t look like a player we all think Bob is looking for, but I guess we’ll see if he sticks or not.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he tries the junior route next year and maybe that will be helpful in developing his 200 ft game.

He was a Scott Bell commit in 2017. Was also a rumor of an incident this fall which may lead to a parting of ways, though nothing confirmed and just rumor as far as I could tell. Can't speak to his skillset. Possibly three years before they even bring him in though, so perhapd they will take time to evaluate.

Watched some of the Buffalo/EP game online. Buffalo is awful, Braccini might be one of the guys that doesn’t make it. Skilled with puck, but lots of coasting around. Didn’t seem to be a real quick skater, see how he does in ushl. Seems like better options out there (Cole Hansen, Jackson Hallum, Lleyton Roed)

I was at this game. I feel that it’s really hard to judge him this year with how bad his team is. His potential is definitely there with his size and skill set. He moves really well when he wants to but he doesn’t do it consistently enough yet. This is a case where he should have gone to juniors this year, but he probably wasn’t coming in next year no matter what so I can’t blame him for wanting to play one last year with his brother and friends.

Didn't put two and two together. With the Fish reeled in, is it possible Koster gets delayed another year? Obviously Bob prefers his guys and will be bringing in Faber and if Fish plays a Staudacher type game I can see him coming, too.

I think Koster is coming in...I wouldn’t be surprised if Rossini transfers somewhere else & who knows what the future holds for Denman either.

Rossini would have transfered before the season started. He has one year left so he'll stick around probably.

Denman could transfer like I thought Rossini would last fall.

NVM, looks like Koster signed his LOI, too. So Fish is TBD, and I'd say he comes with any transfer/departure especially if it's a depth guy.

They’re blue line is going to be pretty darn good...starting next year ☝️tBob has them on the correct trajectory. This wasn’t getting turned around overnight. Year 3 is when the bigger jump will materialize (in my view). But they’ve played well the past month too.

I don't believe Fish has any junior eligiblity left. Fully expecting Koster/Faber/Fish to be brought in.

Gophers haven't had a 15 goal freshman since Kloos in 13-14.

If he ends up at the U, he should be the next one, with a chance for 20.

BTW saw Mike Koster at the game on Saturday -- he showed up in the Wheeler Toronto Top Prospects Pool Ranking at No. 12: https://theathletic.com/1548161/2020/01 ... ple-leafs/

Tri City looks like they're in playoff position in the USHL, but it's pretty tight.

https://www.ushl.com/view#/team-stats

He missed some hockey, but he's a good fit for what it looks like Minnesota defensemen are doing right now. Johnson and LaCombe are often what allows the Gophers to start pushing the pace in the second half. Sounds like he's struggling with handling responsibilities in the d-zone, but that's why you pair guys like him with Staudacher types.

He plays a physical game the Gophers could use more of. Also seems like a smart kid which can translate to a good teammate (Holl was smart as well).

He probably wants to play next year so is off to somewhere else. Think he could have a good college career. Maybe Grant called him up.

It's always somewhat sad when someone decommits or Gophers move on from a kid that wanted to play for the Gophers. Like Bonin21 said, I liked the fact he would have brought some grit to the team. The fact is that there is not a ton of room for a forwards on this team next year. They will lose at least 1 ( Marooney) for sure, and maybe a couple of other depth guys may want to move on. If Pitlick and Nevers come in next year, then tBob can maybe find an older guy to bring in as well. Also, maybe Jensen did not want to play another year in the USHL, but it sure helped Nelson, and Rem Pitlick. It would be interesting to hear when Jensen found out because since Feb 1st, he has 4 goals and 3 assists in 7 games, which accounts for half his goals this year. Good Luck to him

ASU will probably scoop him up, they have insane # of commits but still seem to pick-up all the de-commits from top programs.

Speaking of which, Maniscalco has 10 goals and 30 points this year.

Still a logjam of 2020/2021 forwards. Curious if we see more decommits.

we'll see what happens.. we won't see the impact immediately if they lose some but as frozen4 mentioned (and has been said plenty before) kind of huge that MN can get some of these kids to buy in and take their time in junior

You will see more decommits 100%. But they won't necessarily have to happen this spring and summer.

The pipeline will never be a perfectly accurate representation of the future rosters.

There are plenty of cautionary tales out there, not least first-rounder Casey Middlestadt, who is now grinding it out in the minors - and it's not like there aren't any roster spots available on the mediocre big club.

That's a different battle.

Getting guys to stay as long as they should
vs
Getting guys to play one or even two years of juniors when someone else will take them before that

Both equally important

for sure. So many examples of teams that would be much better if they had convinced X player to stick around one more year. Though I do think both hinge on culture in a general sense. On the latter kids who respect the program and are willing to take an extra year rather than play somewhere else due to their willingness to sacrifice to build something, and on the former, those who love being there so much they don't want to move on fast, want to make the biggest impact possible

The Gophers should have no early departures this summer, and go into next season as the obvious favorite in the Big Ten. Fingers crossed.

I think it’s just an unfortunate numbers game with Jensen. I can’t blame a kid for not wanting to continue to delay college. I think he will be a solid college player, who will bring a lot of energy to wherever he ends up. Maybe if he likes Omaha he will end up at UNO.

Jack’s not the first (at any of the D1 college hockey programs) to withdraw his commitment because he doesn’t want to continue delaying entering college...and he won’t be the last. I’m sure he will land on his feet at another program, he’s a good player ☝️

He still has mn commit on his social media, for whatever that’s worth. Speaking of which, Nik Norman no longer has anything on his Twitter. Obviously that one’s been suspected for a long time but I thought he still had it up last time I checked a few months ago.

This is going to be the rub for Motzko and Minnesota commits. The delayed enrollment thing is a tough thing to deal with for each player, especially if you're not sure there will even be a spot for you if you agree to delay enrolling. Seems like a pretty good kid who will figure it out.

That’s not uncommon for a player having the success Lucius is having on the U17 (at this point in the season) Same thing happened to Cade Fairchild back in the day.

The older Lucius brother gets most of the attention, and deservedly so, but Cruz has a chance to be a really special college player. Him a fellow Gopher commit Connor Kurth have been on a line together and putting up huge numbers. The Gentry U16 team won another tournament last weekend with Kurth putting up 23 (12-11) points in five games, Lucius 21 (3-18).

Curious where the younger Lucius plays next year. The Gentry Galaxy (I believe) are dissolving next year. Have to imagine he and Kurth are off to juniors.

What a shock they create a school and team for their kids and said team dissolves once the younger kid moves on lol. How long will Gentry itself exist then?
That's why I worry if they'll end up Gophers or just see a shinier path.

According to a Strib article the other day, the school's still there and isn't going anywhere; it's the high-end U16 team that plays outside of Minnesota that's going away; Gentry will still field a high school team.

That high school team is going to be a very good class A team next year. They're going to start drawing some serious hate.

I predict they'll shut the school down within five years. Tough to see a big benefit over just going to HM if you're an east metro kid. Especially playing single A where no one cares if you win the title as a private or Hermantown.

I don't follow this thread as much as others but maybe some of the regulars can help:

This site shows 4 committed recruits for next year
Heisenberg shows 10 for next year
CHN shows 13 for 2020

What's the right list?

The Recruits page on this site would be most accurate.

Heisenberg and CHN simply take into account graduating year. A majority of those players are playing juniors next year.

Right now the consensus seems confident we'll see Brock Faber/Carl Fish/Mike Koster on defense (these look like a lock) with probaby Rhett Pitlick at forward. The rest is a mystery.
