LMAO...for an extra 4 million per year for 5 years (mind you there is no SALARY Cap) Twins could have signed the guy they really wanted...instead they are edged out due to dollars - dokay... they are such :censored: frauds...Zack Wheeler, one of the coveted starting pitchers on the free agent market, agreed to a five-year contract worth $118 million from the Phillies on Wednesday.

The Twins targeted Wheeler and, according to sources with knowledge of negotiations, offered a five-year deal worth $100 million. :bored:
Ya know it may have been about more than money. Maybe he wanted to stay in the National League or something.

Jesus Wheeler is 44-38 with an ERA just under 4 for his career. I get he pitched for the Mets but those numbers arent lighting the world on fire and in a league with the designated hitter he could really put up some mediocre numbers.
His fiancee is from the east coast (New Jersey I believe) and he admitted that playing closer to her family was a factor..
So I guess that means signing MN born high end starting pitchers is what the PPP need to shoot for, since that’s a key factor. That’ll work...oops...ahhh, Houston, we may have a problem 😉
No it means you should do a bit more research before you start spouting off like Common Man. Just admit you got it wrong and move on. If the Twins sign no one you can re-use your (not) creative rant later to the same effect.
lol...copying Common Man...well, I agree with him regarding the PPP 🤠

They’ll sign someone who fits their (artificially) low budget, they don’t have a choice on that...ands I’ll be the 1st to gladly admit it, if they ever prove me (or Common)😝wrong regarding the PPP

It's early in the FA game...

They WILL sign someone(s) big, this regime (falvine) has proven that to me...the fact they had approval to offer $100 mil says that...I trust they will get the right guy at the right price...I also agree that they will not go spend $300 mil on a Cole type...time will tell if that works

Sounds like the Twins and White Sox are still the front runners for Bumgarner, and now the Cardinals are interested.

I'm good with that if the terms are friendly...

If so, you have 3 pretty good starters (pineada after a month or so more of suspension)

Now add 2 studs (ryu and madbum?) and you're on the right track

Yeah 2/20 would be a solid deal. Same dollar/year that Gibson got and Pineda is at least as effective as Gibby when they're both at their best.

I think he brings more value than Castro...way better defensively, especially throwing out runners...probably even offensively...

Next year you can have 26 guys so la tortuga will make it and he can catch to get his bat in the lineup

Mark him off the Twins list :D
I saw somewhere that they could not afford both Strasburg and Rendon. I think Rendon wants 30-35 mill a year

$245 million. Not saying he is or is not worth that but it's hard to fathom MLB can afford these types of salaries given how low TV ratings have fallen. Just look at how many people watch the WS now vs. just 10 years ago. Crazy.

The amount of money Washington made off their playoff run they will be fine. MLB teams have plenty of revenue streams outside of TV.

Hard to make much revenue when every playoff run never lasts more than a long weekend...let's try someone new next time, anyone but them again

I'd say we end up with mad bum, ryu or kuechel...maybe 2 of 3...love the idea of graterol as the starter he is but he'll be in a major innings limit this coming year and that's no help come playoff time...

Boston trying to ship David Price out too. Could be a potential move for the Twins. Especially if they can get Boston to eat some of his salary. He's got 3 years and 96 million left on his deal. If Boston is willing to eat 8-10 million a year the Twins could make a move on him and get Ryu/Kuechel/Madbum too.

Berrios-Price-Odo-Pineda-R/K/M would be a pretty nice rotation. With Graterol waiting in AAA (or starting in MLB while Pineda serves his suspension).

What a shock...Yankees sign Cole. 😲 Gerrit cole in his 7 year career averages 2,716 pitches per year.
Hes getting paid 36 million dollars per year.
Every time he throws a pitch he'll be making 13 grand. Well now that’s outta the way, Twins ready to step up and spend some money, right? 😳 Were waiting...😉

Yeah Gleeman is trying to pass that off as some sort of great plan...I am not buying it. He barely broke 100 innings last season, in 2017 he didnt even hit 80 innings and his ERA is trending the wrong way. I dont see a reason to let Boston off the hook.

If I thought they could do that AND add someone else I would maybe be inclined, but no one who has watched this team for more than half a season actually believes they will get two big name pitchers this offseason. If they make this deal they are done...and I dont think this is the deal to make if he is your only deal.

He's realistic and knows we could get a younger pitcher and trade some of our high end offensive pieces for them, and still use free agency to bolster the MLB lineup/rotation.

Trading for pitching this offseason had been discussed as far back as the middle of May, and even more at the trade deadline. It shouldn't come as a shock to anyone that the Twins are exploring the trade market.

No one expected the Twins would be bidding for Cole. But could they please (through FA signing or trade ) accomplish something of significance? Because after winning 101 games, simply making 2nd rate moves isn’t appealing to a certain portion of the fan base. They’ve raised the bar for themselves (whether they act like it or not). ☝️

Madison may not want to play for LA given his time in SF and the rivalry between those two fanbases getting over the top ridiculous.

Look we knew we werent getting Cole or Strasburg...but if they dont want to look like the same cheapos they have been since the Pohlad's bought the team they are going to need to do WAY more than just trade for someone. If they think the fanbase is going to fall for "hey look we got David Price!!" they got another thing coming. The Twins rotation is not good it has no #1 and has a guy who is a #2 until the end of August when he all of a sudden cant pitch anymore. We cant roll into the playoffs with that staff again.

My guess is the main trade target would be a guy more like Robbie Ray/Chris Archer/Matthew Boyd/Jon Gray/German Marquez. Unless they were adding a guy like Price AND Andrew Benintendi.

I don't think our bats are quite as strong in 2020, nor do I think we have the month of May we had this season - so my take is we WON'T roll into the playoffs with the same rotation. We'll be golfing in FL in October with that rotation.

I bet they could get Craig Kimbrel now, like you were whining for them to do six months ago.
I guess we should just be grateful we have a MLB team in MN that delivered on a couple titles 30 years ago ☝️Clearly expectations of winning a 3rd title (and the Pohlad family doing whatever it takes to achieve that) are a fantasy at best &/or futile in all likelihood 😲

The backlash is going to be severe if they go into the year with Berrios and Odirizzi has their top starters. They also will finish 3rd in the division. If the Twins think that is enough they are in for a rude awakening.

They don't even manage the story right. They just sit back and make themselves look bad. And in two months if they make no significant moves they will wonder why no one cares. They built up a ton of good will...it would be a shame if they pissed it all away. They might not but I wouldn't bet on it with their track record.

Yes. Unless it all comes together very quickly for the White Sox, a well-constructed Little League team would have a fair shot at winning the AL Central.

Well we know Rocco's not frustrated with it. But I'm in the same position as Beauner. I'd love to see them make some moves and compete in the playoffs. I just think it's silly to think they're going to be worse than the Royals if they don't.

I would say why bother getting a 30+ old pitcher with so many innings in here for $100 million. So we can lose to the Yankees or Astros with a little more dignity?

Sounds like the Twins are looking heavily into Josh Donaldson. Him signing would likely slide Sano to 1B.

Obviously entirely different on cost, but Jack Morris was 36 in 1991 and he helped the team a bit. I would applaud the organization being aggressive and having some of the moves blow up than just sitting by and wading full speed into the "scraps from the table" market.

Black Jack was here on a one year deal. I'd pay any of these high end pitchers $40 million for one year but none would take it.

Beauner - Ya sure you’re not on the Twins payroll? You know more about baseball than anybody on this forum. And you consistently alibi for these cheapskates, no matter what they do. How long does the mileage last on firing Molitor (with you & the Twins?) 😉Seriously, doesn’t it frustrate you (a true baseball wonk) when they win 101 games, and have so far sat on their hands regarding getting the team “impact” starting pitching help for 2020? How high is the bar they need to reach for 2020...for you to be satisfied with their pitching staff?

I think we will win less than 81 games with that line up so anyone could legit pass us including most Little League teams ;)

Sorry I just dont see our hitters having the kind of year they did last year so unless the starting pitching improves enough to offset the fall off they are in trouble. Maybe not third but Cleveland even selling off would be my pick to win the Central.

We will see...plenty of time still but this team as is will not be as good as last year and I dont think it will be close.

I must have missed where the Yankees and Astros won the title last year...

If you arent trying to win what is the point of having a team?

Let me guess though you just assume the Twins will always lose so you quit before the first pitch of the season.

I would say why bother getting a 30+ old pitcher with so many innings in here for $100 million. So we can lose to the Yankees or Astros with a little more dignity?
I must have missed where the Yankees and Astros won the title last year...

If you arent trying to win what is the point of having a team?

Let me guess though you just assume the Twins will always lose so you quit before the first pitch of the season.
Yes, your assessment is correct of my thoughts going into every season. I do not think the Twins will ever win the World Series while playing at Target Field. Baseball is unfair without any sort of cap so I have gone from caring alot to dreading having to go to a game now.

No one is putting a gun to your head forcing you to attend any Twins games. :conf2: The Pohlad’s are what they are, they very much enjoy the perks of being MLB owners...but since they were lucky enough to experience being WS champs in their younger years...the fire to win another has been essentially extinguished...by their desire to preserve their fortunes, and enjoy a team that everybody cuts slack to for not overspending 😲 :confused2:
