Well crap. Wisconsin is playing like they have been there before and we aren't. Good on them...Gophers will learn from it.

Now we wait to hear where we play.

At the start of the year, you get told the Gophers will have a 10-2 season, but the two losses are to Iowa and Wisconsin.

How do you feel?

Have they been called for anything all game?
Nobody has, either side. Refs are letting them play.
This is comedy.
Have you watched the game? They are dominating the line on both sides. Throw a few flags it doesn’t matter.

This has nothing to do with the refs. We fight for an inch in a run play, on a pass Morgan has hands in his GM face every throw.

Every run they have 5-6 and then have to fight.

Please don’t blame it on the refs.

D is getting absolutely owned in the second half. They’ve run 12 plays on offense in the second half and scored 3 touchdowns.

I'm thrilled with the progress made these last couple of years, and feeling very optimistic for the future with this squad.

But yeah...this is a bitter, BITTER pill to swallow.

I will say it again. We were picked 6th in the West. Our over/under was 7.5. We’ve won 10 games in the regular season for the first time since 1905. We share the B1G West title. We will be playing on New Years Day.

This was a phenomenal season. It’s unfortunate that our receivers got a case of the drops at a bad time. But I’m stoked about this year.

It’s been awesome and next year when we DON’T go 10-1, it will be ok. Everything’s going the right way.

I haven't seen every game, but this is the first time I can remember seeing a Fleck coached team get out-adjusted after halftime.

I'm not going to complain about 10-2. (I'd be happy as heck with an epic comeback through)

The year was great but there's lots of room to grow. Losing to Wisconsin and Iowa should be huge motivation for next year.

Won't ruin the season for me though.

I hope it doesn't destroy the bandwagon but I don't trust fans in this town. We are very close, and we will only get better.

With this roster that meets or slightly exceeds expectations given the schedule. Today the offense shouldn’t be struggling this much, the D doesn’t surprise me unfortunately. Also Morgan is showing his limitations in this one.

I put some of this game on the coaches because there’s no creativity to the pass game, it’s like a Mike McCarthy offense where they expect above average receivers to make all the plays and don’t scheme anything open. With the run game there’s zero misdirection and with Faalele out that’s gonna be tough.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

Then blitz one LB. On the deep throw, we blitzed a defensive back and had our MLB on their best WR.

All day to throw doesn't matter if you can cover. Lots of successful screens and misdirection plays for them. Those work when the defense is over aggressive.

Did you watch the Iowa game? We lost because we didn't blitz in the first half. Now I question the blitzes called but not blitzing.

Martin was limping all game once he got back in which didn't help either.

Hypothetical- WI gets boat-raced by aOSU...say 52-10. Do we have an outside shot at a Rose Bowl bid? Lie to me if you must.

We are young. Lose Johnson but return a ton. We are young but next year (2020) was supposed to be the big year. This was unexpected. Hope it is back to back years with good seasons

Yeah like Dunlap missing the Iowa game...we need all our guys in there or we are in trouble. Schlueter is a good sixth blocker but he can't play every down at guard or tackle he is too slow.

Possibly also the way Penn St was looking against Rutgers helps in that scenario

Throw a flag on the reverse long TD run or long kick return (both blatant) and that drive changes. Throw a flag on either PIs on Johnson and its first and goal on the 1.
That does matter, whether you want to admit it or not.

That said, Coan has been great. Better than he's ever shown before. The defense did a really good job bottling up Taylor overall. The loss of Faalele on the line really hurts the run game and the WRs haven't been good enough (and haven't gotten some PIs that should have been called whether you want to admit it or not).

The biggest advantage the Gophers had was largely taken away by the referees allowing overmatched defensive backs to get away with grabbing and shoving.

Really wish our coordinator would've settled down on the blitzing...Even amateurs like myself could see it wasnt working
They had to. Pressure was our only shot. Our D-line couldn't get home so he would have had all day to throw.

Yeah, but after getting burned all game, coordinator needed to adjust. Just kept rowing the boat I guess

Early a little but Andries did a good job switching from LG to RT. Different stanch switching sides and IMO tackle is tougher than guard
To me the backs and Paulson and Kleft had misses on protection.

Twitter is always uber nuts during any big game, no matter the sport. Way over the top reactions, I bet someone on there has seriously mentioned firing Fleck/his extension is a joke.

I do the same as you; pretty much just scroll past anything game-related after a big game like this.....

This game parallels the UND games for me. Like UND, Wisc was the better team and when they got rolling the Gophers were unable to contain them. For me, this season should be considered a success. Losing 2, and having GameDay on campus is something that most would not have dreamt of. Hopefully this is a building block for future years. A healthy football program will always help out the other sports. Just hope Fleck doesn't start buying new clothes and not caring

You never know how things will play out when the momentum is completely different. UW got on a roll and it's often hard to over come that. But in a tighter game and even with a possible lead it may have gone differently.

No that doesn't take away from the ways in which the Gophers got outplayed. They were beat at the line on both sides often, dropped too many passes and Morgan had his worst game of the year. Yet it was a tight game until UW blew it open in the 3rd - a situation that possibly doesn't come to fruition if the refs didn't miss some very, very, very obvious calls.
Currently under construction.

I thought the Rose Bowl was free to choose whomever they wanted?
From what i've heard it goes to the highest ranked B1G team

If the B1G champion is in the CFP, then yes they can pick whoever they want.

Edit: from the source
Should a team from the Big Ten or Pac-12 be selected to go to the College Football Playoff, the Tournament of Roses will traditionally select the next-highest CFP-ranked team from that conference. There is, however, a caveat to that clause in the contract.

“If the next-highest ranked team is in a ‘cluster’ of teams, meaning there is another team or teams from the same conference ranked within several spots of each other, the Tournament of Roses will select the team from that cluster that will result in the best possible matchup for the Rose Bowl Game,” said Rose Bowl Management Committee Chair Scott Jenkins.
Ease your mind, have a banana or two.

Seems like a lot of flags needed just to maybe sorta probably not have a chance. How does that stop them from running and passing on us at will?
You never know how things will play out when the momentum is completely different. UW got on a roll and it's often hard to over come that. But in a tighter game and even with a possible lead it may have gone differently.

No that doesn't take away from the ways in which the Gophers got outplayed. They were beat at the line on both sides often, dropped too many passes and Morgan had his worst game of the year. Yet it was a tight game until UW blew it open in the 3rd - a situation that possibly doesn't come to fruition if the refs didn't miss some very, very, very obvious calls.
C’mon...let’s not be a classic MN Foitball fan (Gophers and/or Vikings)...And blame the refs, when we get beat by 3 touchdowns ☝️ Leave that for 99 year old Sid.You’re better than that SS. They whipped the Gophers today, experience playing big games usually pays off. Unfortunately it did today.

I didn't blame the refs for the loss and calling them out isn't unique to MN Football fans. If you think that you should get out more often.

I said we don't know how things might have differently played out had they called some things earlier in the game. Did I not just get done writing....No that doesn't take away from the ways in which the Gophers got outplayed. They were beat at the line on both sides often, dropped too many passes and Morgan had his worst game of the year.?? Or did you just ignore that from the quote of mine you just referenced?

Calling out the refs doesn't blame them for the outcome - it blames them for their mistakes only. I blame the Gophers players and coaches for their own mistakes and credit Wisconsin for the things they did well - these are separate items of observation.

As for fans like bonin who whine this is "typical" Minnesota -

How would you rate UW football from 1943-1993 and then since? Did you know what happened the first time UW was in the conversation for a big, big finish during the latter run? With all of that how have they managed to do some pretty impressive things if everything is inevitable based upon the past? How did Denver ever win a Super Bowl? Cleveland an NBA title? The Rangers a Stanley Cup and the Cubs and Red Sox a World Series? If the Vikings and Bills make the SB will the world stop spinning because OMGZ TEH PAZT!!!?
Currently under construction.
