I am probably late to the party on this but the Classic Album series on Amazon Prime is fantastic.

Basically documentaries on how classic albums were made and it looks like they have been around a while on various cable channels.. So far the two I've watched (Steely Dan Aja & Lou Reed Transformer) have been really well done.

Saw Robert Plant at the amphitheater in Moorhead last night. Really good show. Good mix of solo stuff and Zep tunes with a different twist. Still a magnetic front man at 71. Was a little surreal to see the singer from Led Zeppelin in a cornfield on the Minnesota/ North Dakota border, but the venue was pretty cool. Plus I got to visit Junkyard Brewing. 🍺

We saw Frankie Valli at the Orpheum last night. Can't believe he's 85. I think he lip sincs several of the songs, but others he's clearly singing live. He has a great 9 piece band and four good singers with him. Fun show for us oldsters. Hope I can look and move as well when I'm 85!

Somewhat interesting but hardly definitive. Mojo clickbait for a younger demographic. Impossible to reduce all of the great artists and solos to a "Top Ten". Better to call it a Mojo writers favorites list.

Two of my favorite artists. So much to choose from. Gary Moore and Jack Bruce:

Here are your 2020 nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame:

Pat Benatar
Dave Matthews Band
The Doobie Brothers
Motörhead
The Notorious B.I.G.
Soundgarden
T. Rex
Thin Lizzy
Whitney Houston
Depeche Mode
Judas Priest
Kraftwerk
MC5
Nine Inch Nails
Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
Todd Rundgren

I'm a big fan of Pat Benatar and Judas Priest. I hope they get in (not saying the others don't deserve it).

Dave Matthews and B.I.G. kind of stump me, to me DM isn't as important as his followers think he is and BIG just doesn't have the catalog to put him in this early...not saying that later on he gets in but not before a lot of others on this list. There are people on this list that influenced people on this list, sorry BIG you'll have to wait.

My 5 to make it would be:
Pat Benatar
MC5
Judas Priest
Whitney Houston
Soundgarden

Soundgarden makes it because of Chris Cornell's death, which seems to help voters make up their minds I guess

I hate that version.

Biggie was huge in the rap game, which is a beef I have with the ROCK AND ROLL HOF. Just change it to the Music HOF or something.
Motorhead definitely should be in. There is no metal as we know it without them. Black Sabbath kinda pointed the way, but Motorhead went full-steam ahead.
NIN should definitely be in. That really shifted that style of alternative music in a WHOLE new direction.

I have been watching Mike Judge's "Tales from the Tour Bus" series. Great stuff. It's an animated series on Showtime (and clips on YouTube) with interviews and stories about famous musical acts and their backing band, managers, etc. Season one was outlaw country (George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Lee Lewis) and season two was funk (James Brown, Miles Davis, Prince, Rick James). This song from season one caught my attention and quickly became one of my most treasured songs. "If I Could Only Fly" by Blaze Foley Edit: Sorry for the awful job trying to embed the video.

Is the version you hate the Thin Lizzy interpretation of the Irish folk song "Whiskey in the Jar"?

How about posting a couple of videos that bolster your declarations about Motorhead and NIN. If they were the trailblazers that you believe them to be it should be easy to come up with a couple of your favorites that drive home your point. HOF worthy bands should have lots of back catalog material in addition to their "Hits" so don't post Ace of Spades.

I haven't paid attention to previous classes of inductees so I have no inkling of what criteria they might use, but I could see the following.

NBIG being the only real hip hop artist might help him get in. Whitney is a no-brainer since they include all genres. I will never buy a record of hers but she was an icon. Pat was a trendsetter for female rock stars. Soundgarden was one of the originators of grunge (please not another stupid argument about what is/is not grunge). I could see two more coming from JP, Kraftwerk, MC5, Depeche Mode and NIN.

Pat Benatar
The Notorious B.I.G.
Soundgarden
Whitney Houston
Judas Priest/Kraftwerk/MC5/Depeche Mode/NIN

Personally none of them blow my mind even if I'm a big fan of a few.

I was never a big fan of Motorhead, going by past interviews with other metal bands, as to influence.

As for NIN, his first album reminds of of Billie Eilish today. Pulling from all genres and creating a weird, new, and awesome sound. Some songs were almost hip-hop, others were gnash about the room while listening to the song. Still others were very melancholy. That's some talent, right there.

Yeah it's a really weak list of artists. Selection by quota system.

In my opinion these bands/artists should be in long before the current crop of artists under consideration:

Warren Zevon
Badfinger
Little Feat
Gary Moore
Steppenwolf
John Mayall
Mountain
Mott the Hoople
Procol Harum
Ten Years After
Jethro Tull
Johnny Winter
Rory Gallagher

Saw Steppenwolf live back in the day and it was easily the worst concert performance I've ever seen. My roommate convinced me they just had a bad night so I agreed to go see them again. Turns out my opinion was well-founded as the second time was just as bad as the first. :anger:

Otherwise I like your list.

Not too surprising as far as bad live shows go. Their monster singles from the early years sound very professional. Wouldn't be surprised if somebody like The Wrecking Crew were the musicians on their studio recordings. I did have their double live album "Steppenwolf Live" way back when and it still sounds pretty good all things considered.

Maybe the quality and quantity of drugs and alcohol around the towns where you saw them had an adverse effect on their live performances. :drunk: A common problem. :x

One of my favorites from the live album:

Listening to TWRP Omnibus vinyl which is a collection of their early EPs. I think I've mentioned them in this thread before, but if you like funk and synth music, these guys are phenomenal

Boy the Swedish music scene sure has changed since the 70's, not necessarily for the better, IMO.

I worked the Dylan concert here in Mankato last night. Easily the largest crowd at a Mankato concert I've worked here so far. I went and watched Bob sing two songs...checked that off my list of things I've done in my life. If he wasn't the icon that he is I wouldn't have went in to watch the two songs I did.

Yeah she's got a little lighter touch. Dick Dale on the other hand compared his playing style to chopping wood.

KISS Alive is hailed as one of, if not, the best live rock album of all time. I disagree and say that Iron Maidens Rock in Rio is the superior. Fight me!

I've never had the privilege to listen to Iron Maiden's Rock in Rio but I would not doubt that it is killer. I think the thing with Kiss Alive is that really broke the band wide open to a larger audience so it gets a lot of love because of that I believe. When considering top live albums I think you can't dismiss Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison, or Nirvana Unplugged, Frampton Comes Alive, or Cheap Trick Live at Budokan. Overall though, Iron Maiden doesn't get any love from anyone who is a metalhead which is a crime because their musicianship and thoughtful writing get overlooked greatly.

One of my top 3 bands but I have a hard time putting this album up against many of those others, Alice really isn't a widely praised band but they are my favorite Seattle band by a moonshot. Interesting tidbit about Alice's Unplugged performance. The phrase on Mike Inez's bass "Friends don't let friends get Friends haircuts" was directed at Metallica who were in attendance and just had cut their hair short. I really kind of dislike this performance by Alice since Layne was pretty much in his heyday of heroin abuse and while he sang okay, he was just a shell of the former performer he was...sad.
