I won’t. Not perfect but I love the direction this program is headed. 4-0 is awesome.

Me either. Plus it isnt like we won on a fluke or something we threw all day on them and outside of about a 5 minute portion of the 4th Purdue never looked like they had much of a chance in the second half. The Gophers probably went too far into the "keep the play in front of you and clock running" defense but honestly Purdue killed any chance they had at a real comeback when it took them 6 minutes to score on the 99 yard drive.

Even if the penalty doesnt happen and we give Purdue the ball back, and even if we assume they can score again the fact is they couldnt stop the team. They sold out to stop the run and Tanner threw all day on them.

The game wasnt perfect, and the tackling issue was annoying as heck but they still won by a TD on the road. You take every road win you can get.

I just want them to put away a team. Yes, it's nice to have the offensive showing, but we need a game we can get the freshmen QBs some playing time. If Tanner gets............well, we just need to get some time for the back-ups!!!

I mean... Purdue. Should have been 25 of 22. :biggrin2:
I never said I didn’t like Morgan, only that I thought his arm strength was underwhelming. Which, today, it was absolutely not. Kudos to him. He’s a smart player and runs the RPO very well.

The national narrative for this game will be that Sindelar and Moore got hurt so the Gophers were handed a win. I’m A ok with everyone thinking that.

He doesn't have a super strong arm so he needs to have good timing and be accurate. I mean he nailed those timing routes today no matter the down, distance or side of the field. It helps that he trusts our receivers to make the play at all times.

I don't think he will be as good as we saw today most weeks but he doesn't have to be. Hell most teams have to probably have to not stack the box now since he has now shown he will burn them if they do.

Maybe...but we were up 14-3 when they left and the backups played pretty dang good.

With the amount of talent we have on offense Morgan’s life isn’t terribly difficult. He had a nice day and so far he’s not what’s holding us back.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

If they fail to abide by NCAA rules can the NCAA revoke their membership?

I can only imagine the arms race as each state try’s to create similar legislation that impacts recruiting abilities. This, for obvious reasons, cannot be allowed to vary by state. Unless MN has the best upside for players of course.

Yes. Receivers have missed a couple nice passes and Morgan has thrown a couple awful passes.

Defense has been good. Running game going well so far.

I do think they're better than the teams they play down against. But I think those with maroon and gold glasses think they are better than they really are. Gopher football is almost always a 30th to 40th best team in the country or around there. Play a team above that? Usually lose. Play a team below? Usually win, regardless of how ugly.

Be real. What does that mean? Hovering in the 20-30 range every year pretty much, with the occasional climb near top 15 (like we did in 2008 for one week).

But yes, hovering 20-30 every year, and beating a team above that EVER would earn this program a lot of respect and be more fun to watch.

Fleck making bone headed coaching decisions.

And why risk Rodney Smith on kick off returns when your other RBs are hurt? Someone has to be able to return a kick.

If you think you can build Alabama here you're on crack. What Wisconsin has been able to do is the ceiling.

I'm not hoping for that. But they're not going to be at a wisconsin level where you have a team that can actually contend in a game with a team like Alabama any time in the next ten years.

Obviously Alabama and Clemson are on another level but any team after that I mean.

Playing down to Illinois's level so far.
Gopher football does this with every opponent even FCS. It's a sign that maybe that is their base level.
Well you're more negative than I am. I have them better than that.
I do think they're better than the teams they play down against. But I think those with maroon and gold glasses think they are better than they really are. Gopher football is almost always a 30th to 40th best team in the country or around there. Play a team above that? Usually lose. Play a team below? Usually win, regardless of how ugly.
Fleck will get them better than that. It'll happen.
Be real. What does that mean? Hovering in the 20-30 range every year pretty much, with the occasional climb near top 15 (like we did in 2008 for one week).

But yes, hovering 20-30 every year, and beating a team above that EVER would earn this program a lot of respect and be more fun to watch.
You would find some way to downplay it. ;)

If they can hover in the "ranked or near ranked" in the polls every year I would take that. If that isnt good enough for you then your expectations are ridiculous at this point. It would also probably mean they are in contention in the division a lot of the time.

That is good enough for me. But my big callout stands. Beat a team above that in the rankings AT LEAST ONCE every couple years. That's how you build a bigger buzz about a program.

A top 25 team can find its way into some Big Ten championship games (and probably get stomped by OSU/UM/PSU). A Big Ten championship would be like a national title for this program so ya. That's all any realistic person can ask for.

Of course the ref shouldnt have let them snap the ball he called it well before.

I like that he is able to get past the mistakes but man I could do with less of them ;)

I havent seen us run the ball like this in a while. Illinois cant stop us.

Then Rodney Smith just runs away from the D and scores :dup:

This is one of the easiest schedules through 8 games I can ever remember. This team should go 7-0 and about 50 50 with Maryland.

After that it's gonna be rough but just take care of business and get to that point.

Just go 2-1 over the next 3. Need one of Nebraska and MD with a have to best Rutgers. 7-1 and I’m happy.

Then you need to find a way to beat one of the Top 25 team’s you’ll see at the end, preferably 2. One unexpected upset. 8-4 or better.

If you want to prove you're progressing as a program, 9-3.

It was obvious that Illinois feared Morgan throwing on them. Plus their run defense is not exactly stellar. Good on the coaches for sticking to what worked and not forcing plays most of the time.

The announcers said at the beginning that Lovie likes to play 2 safeties over the top so the way to move the ball is to run. I didn’t get to watch the whole game but the rushing stats show Illinois didn’t adjust well.

Yeah he does play cover 2...and his coaches tip their hand when they are bringing more into the box. Our coaches adjusted well based on that and if you watch we called plays at the line when they brought the safety down. The Illini would overstack our strong side and we would switch directions and run away from them.

While that is cool...not sure I would vote them into the Top 25 yet because of who they played.

Like I've said, they are a 30 to 40th best team in the country. They are ranked because of 5-0.
Lead us out of Loserville, Bob.

Well if they made it to 6-0 they would have been ranked anyways so it isnt that big of a deal.

I think we are better than you do but it is tough to tell.

I also feel like this team is better than a lot of others. Especially if what we saw against Illinois wasn't a total mirage and Rodney/Shannon are back to form. With this WR group and the way Morgan seems to have ice in his veins...

I agree this offense is clearly above average, especially so when the line starts getting a push and the RBs finally get going. The D is another story but hopefully they play up to the better opponents.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

The defensive line scares me.
