Of course the punt sticks inside the ten like a Phil Mickleson wedge.

Literally every time this team gets any kind of forward momentum there's a holding call.

The frustrating thing is this is a two possession game and we just feel completely out of it. That's the sign of being thoroughly outclassed.

Kirk's numbers passing aren't terrible (21/26 now) but it's all been underneath crap except the 35 yarder to Diggs on 4th down. Makes sense I guess, since any time he takes a 5 step drop he gets sacked.

I have to admit, Brad Johnson looks pretty good today.

Why bother with those last 2 plays if that's all you're going to do? Honestly? Someone could get hurt, for what? Kirk's stats to be slightly better?!?

A lot of the time the teams that make the playoffs are just the ones who stay healthy, especially at key positions.

I hope Bradbury improves because so far he has been awful. He’s not the only one obviously, but as a first round pick he was supposed to be an upgrade to the line. Not so much so far.

I wanted Dillard. Think he got hurt so jury obviously out.

Packers and Saints got centers in the second round. Don't know how they've been but I assume better than Bradbury because Minnesota.

Defense caused 0 turnovers right? Vikings couldn't return a punt for squat and our punter refused to try and pin them deep in situations where he should have. He lofted high one punt to the 20 - why not just bomb it for a corner? Worst result is the same.
Currently under construction.

Yeah I think blaming Kubiak is misguided. We do have to give Chicago some credit that defense screws up even great offenses.

I've always thought, that unless the QB is like Brees or Brady, the money should be spent on the line. The marginal difference between decent and Cousins (even if you think he's "good") is little, and if you give any of these guys time, they can make most passes. Case in point Chase Daniels

Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the opposing pitcher after a dominant performance...not that there's not offensive problems, but today was bears defense's day

Getting beat is one thing...absorbing a physical beat down with no punch back whatsoever...is another. Vikings O was completely dominated by Bears D. Vikings D allowed a 14 play TD drive to begin the game. No way to sugar coat that or put lipstick on it.

Vikings outclassed in every category including coaching. For Vikings fans this game was just boring..add in the self defeating penalties and the game was almost unwatchable for me

I’ll give something back: I’m pretty concerned that Trubisky is not the answer. The Vikings have a very good D and Daniel did his job. I’m not convinced we win this game with Mitch.

Given how long and how often the defense was on the field, after so many 3 and outs, and turnovers by the offense, the defense did pretty well in holding the Bears to just 16 points, including just 6 in the 2nd half. Not great, since they didn't create turnovers, but this defeat was at least 90% on the offense.

They fricken allowed a 14 fricken play drive for a TD to start the game....against a 2nd string QB. Totally Fricken Unacceptable. The Bears SUCK on offense...PERIOD. They have a phenomenally dominant D, anyone can see that. Nagy has outcoached & out schemed Zimmer 3 times in a row. And the Vikings QB melts like butter in a hot pan in big games. Other than that, feel free to apply lipstick to this PIG performance by the purple ☝️

I don’t know what the Blues have to do with this game, but ok, opinion noted. Given the quality of the Vikings D, which despite the offense doing nothing much but hinder it, gave up only one TD. I’d stop harping on if it were my club. The Bears do need to improve on offense to go on a deep playoff run. At the end of the day, we have good clubs and I’m pumped for the rematch.

Had to watch yesterday’s buzzkill as I had people over.
My 4th and last NFL game of the year. NFL is a joke.
The good news is that it’s hockey season!

That's the only number anyone need know. You do not pay 90 million dollars guaranteed for that.

EDIT: Didn't even realize it but Chicago was missing two of it's best defensive players.

The defense allowed 9 points after the first drive. If the offense didn't keep giving the ball back the game would have looked differently - which is not to say the Vikings necessarily would have won.

Credit to Chicago for having better coaching, schemes, special teams and energy across the board.

3 of those 9 points were a gift from a Cousins fumble and another 3 shouldn’t have happened at the end of the half with the timeout fiasco.

The defense just played soft. Didn’t pressure. Just sat back and kept everything in front of them. That’s why they had the 14 play drive or whatever it was. They need to be more aggressive and force them to do something they don’t want to.

The D didn’t answer the bell to begin the game, plain & simple. What’s frustrating and alarming is the EXACT same thing happened 1st drive vs the Packers. For this supposed strength of the Vikings team, that’s unacceptable. And the offense was a bust and Cousins missed Thielen for a TD they desperately needed. I’m sick & tired of Cousins saying he wants a throw back. Quit choking mentally Captain Kirk and make a play.

The Vikes had 2 possessions in the first half. If the D was tired it was because they couldnt get off the field. You should be able to handle that.

Plus neither of those drives by the vikes were 3 and out. They ran 21 plays on 2 drives. One they punted from the 47 and the other was a fumble after 32 penalties and 12 plays. The D had plenty of time to rest.

You can make that argument for the second half but the first half. And none of that is excuse making for the offense...cause they stunk up the joint from the word go.

What does it say about Spielman that after this long he still can't collect a serviceable offensive line?

So 3 points after the opening drive? Seems then for most of the game they did their job.

Sadly, that seems to be a trend for this team.

One thing Jim Nantz said during yesterday's game really sticks in my mind (not to mention my craw)...

Dating back to the start of last season, Chicago has scored on their opening drive three times.
All three times were against the Vikings.

Quarterback is a near impossible position to get right. It's taken Cleveland about 324 years to find theirs. The Bears clearly have not found theirs (if your back-up can perform as well as your starter, your starter isn't good enough). The Vikings continue to look for theirs. For only having 32 of these roles in the NFL they're incredibly challenging to fill. Many 1st round picks flop and finding a diamond in the rough like Brady in the 4th round is dumb luck (my take).

The line, that's a different story, but I can't fault an organization for taking a flier on a few QB's. There's no proven path to a winning QB.

And lets not forget that most of the Vikings fanbase was BEGGING for them to sign Cousins. This is not them taking a flier on a guy no one ever heard of or who had a good couple games in his free agent year...even at the Super Bowl every Vikes fan I talked to or knew said "If they dont break the bank for Cousins it will be a travesty!". The worst kept secret was that Minnesota wanted Cousins and he wanted to sign here.

They took a chance and it so far has blown up in their face...but the fans seem to be forgetting how this all played out. That is nothing new...we fans act like every idea we have is some genius move and ignore history when it doesnt work out for us.

True, the difference being Vikings management is compensated well to get things right, and fans are rubes. I wanted them to sign Cousins at the time and didn’t really care what was spent to get him. But...he hasn’t lived up to being the kind of difference maker management (and us rubes expected) in fact he hasn’t even been close to expectations (at this point, 20 games in as the Vikings starter).

I was amazed that the owner didn’t can someone after last season. Let’s sign a pocket passer with no offensive line.

Well, we caught a couple breaks on the first drive and your defense did knock out our starting QB. Man, you are being super fatalistic here. 😆
I thought there were a few drives that were unbearable to watch due to all the penalties. The first drive was one of them and then the one where the Vikes kept getting bailed out and ultimately Diggs fumbled.

Any nice play now on either side of the ball and you find yourself doing a nice 3 second count praying a flag doesn’t come out.

Who would you have canned?

They do have a rookie, 2nd year and 3rd year (1st year at guard) on the line.

Nothing better than listening to a bunch of fans whine after a game against a top D that everyone should be fired.

Let’s see where they after week 8.

Right but what do you want them to do about it? This is the risk you take when you sign a FA QB.

They took a swing and missed. I would rather them do that then the alternative. Keenum has proven he wasnt worth signing and Teddy is not a big time QB.

Yesterday seemed to stand out in particular. Watched the Lions, Bills, and Vikings games, and it was a flagfest in all of them. What was really painful was that there were a TON of offsetting penalties in the Bills game. In other words, a bunch of flags thrown......for no result.

Unless the team misses the playoffs no one is getting canned and fans calling for it are morons plain and simple. There is time to turn it around but they cant afford to lose many more games in the division and they HAVE to smoke the bad teams they play. If they are 4-4 in week 8 they are in some serious trouble.

If they don't make a serious run, and I dare say a SB appearance, I think Kirk is done here, unless a massive paycut is involved. Such is the nature of sports in this era.

Well that is not going to happen so.

Sign Lediner and go 0-16 next year. Draft Lawrence so we can finally have a franchise QB.

Mark Rosen played a clip this morning from his interview with Cousins. Cousins falls on his sword. Doesn't fix the fact that the Vikes have two of the best receivers in the NFL, and one of the best Running Backs in the NFL and they won't sniff the playoffs with this offensive line.

Mark Rosen played a clip this morning from his interview with Cousins. Cousins falls on his sword. Doesn't fix the fact that the Vikes have two of the best receivers in the NFL, and one of the best Running Backs in the NFL and they won't sniff the playoffs with this offensive line.
C’mon Scooby, you can’t blame it simply on the offense line. Cousins needs to pick up his performance big time, or all the All Pro weapons in the world can’t help him. He has to quit playing like a trembling chihuahua and make some freaking plays. Sure, the line needs to pass block much better, but their run blocking has been more than adequate (overall). Accordingly, the play action passing game should be quite effective, if the QB could make an accurate throw. 🙄🤬

You're right. I should have added ...won't sniff the playoffs with this offensive line and QB. My bad.

Yeah, let’s eat $60 million of dead money and start Rosen against the Lions. 😂 NFL Network is paid to make silly speculations.

There was a play in the 3rd quarter on Sunday where Cousins spun out of some trouble. He was still in the pocket. Instead of looking to throw or get out of the pocket, he essentially turtled and waited for a defender to hit him. The defender took at least two steps before he got to him. It was like he froze and didn’t know what to do anymore. That’s when you know it’s over for your QB.

People are going to have to get over the sunk cost of Cousins. No one will want him and his contract. We need to start looking to 2021 in terms of actually competing for a title. The window is closed.

Gopher hockey is now our highest probability of the next title, which is fine by me. 2020-21 the window opens for Gopher hockey.
Lead us out of Loserville, Bob.
104 big four seasons with no finals appearance
Times advanced in playoffs last 15 seasons: Vikings 3, Wild 2, Twins 0, Wolves 0
1967 last football conference title, 1982 last basketball conference title, 2003 last hockey national championship

If they don't make a serious run, and I dare say a SB appearance, I think Kirk is done here, unless a massive paycut is involved. Such is the nature of sports in this era.
He has a guaranteed contract for 1 more year. He isnt going anywhere.

The run blocking was atrocious versus Chicago. When the line cant block the run or the pass even a great QB is gonna crap the bed and Cousins is hardly that ;)

Stefanski showed no ability to adjust the offense until it was too late which is very disconcerting.
