Cruz on pace to hit 44 home runs which would tie his best season. Even if the Twins could get a 40 home running hitter that’d be awesome.

I like this Mitch Garver kid. The guy has 20 HR in 206 plate appearances and a 0.617 SLG%. Not too shabby for a catcher.
I fully agree he is a strong hitter.
He moves his mitt around too much for me though. Prior to the pitch he goves the pitcher the target, then drops the mitt down towards the ground and pops it back up to catch the pitch. Too much herky jerky for me.
I HATE :censored: RED! I'm now developing a strong dislike to green also.
TO GOALIES!!! :drunk:

BTW Keep the helmets on for the NA & intros...You ain't that special.

A lot of catchers are doing this now. I believe it is a form of pitch framing. Makes it harder for the umpire to tell if the pitcher missed his spot.

I am wondering if he was injured before the trade? :confused2: I find it very interesting that three days after the trade he is put on the IL.

Somewhere I saw that Rocco said he has been dealing with this for "some time" whatever that means. Let's get everyone healthy and continue the march forward.

Went to the Twins game last night. Hit a bunch of the usual bars around downtown and the final stop before the game was Cargo. It's the place where Huberts was before. Cargo was not busy and am predicting it won't last long.

The Major league record you mean. I think they’re only 8 or 9 away from the team record

The only AL player with more HRs than Max Kepler right now is Mike Trout.

It is August 5th.

Looking it up and finding out that Jim Kaat is 12 years older than Bert has me seriously considering a life of sobriety.

Goofy hop, yes. But a terrible miss-play either way. There's 0 chance he throws Acuna out at the plate. Sit back and keep the ball in front of you.

While it was a no brainer, I think the social media over hyped it a little. It wasn't a ZOMG. It was gone for sure, but not jaw dropping.

Just look how far in he is when the ball hits the wall. Ball hit one or two frames before that, can't get closer without access to the actual video file.

100% agree. Lets them both stay fresh. I love the way Rocco has managed those two together. The fact that Castro is also hitting much better this season certainly helps too, but the fact that he's willing to move parts around in the lineup because of their splits/strengths is refreshing.

It’s amazing they have the launch angle and exit velocity posted before it hits the wall. That’s a nice feature.

I agree. It actually looks like they are having fun and are rooting for each other to succeed. I think Cruz is having a positive impact on Sano. Kyle Gibson is always cheering from the dugout. Willians Astudillo is the team mascot. Keep it going.

Didn't expect to get whipped like this with Berrios on the mound, that's for sure.

Perez is sinking fast!! They are going to regret not picking up a starting pitcher at the deadline.

Berrios has the most talent of the staff, but he's not a lights out pitcher (talent wise better than Radke, not as good as Viola). I think about what happened against the Yankees and now the Braves, two playoff bound teams...yes, those opposing pitchers gave up some runs, too, but at the end of the day the Twins' staff wasn't good enough to make a half dozen runs stand up. These are the teams that would be lying in wait for the Twins during the playoffs.

Offense is fun, and never in all my years as a fan has the Twins hit like this. It's great to see the homers and the lopsided scores, but I am ever wary of what's coming. A fan can hope, but I don't like their chances against teams with deep pitching that might even include an ace or two (or three in the case of Houston  )

Yep.

I REALLY hope I'm wrong, but I don't think the Twins will even beat Cleveland for the central division title. The offense is as good as any team in baseball, but the pitching staff just isn't getting it done. Cleveland has a "good enough" offense, and far superior starting pitching. Pitching usually wins out in the end.

I'm going to the game tonight and hoping the Twins can make me look foolish for writing this. :good2:

Over the entire spectrum of MLB pitching, the best hitters are successful about 30% of the time (not including walks and productive at bats), so pitching is the coveted resource. When you cherry pick stats the best hitters are humbled by the best pitchers. How many of those "best pitchers" are wearing a Twins uniform?

Not a criticism of the team, just reality. The Twins' World Series teams had a solid 1-2 in the rotation and a decent 3rd guy, along with a deep bull pen that could work a lot of innings. This team doesn't have that.

Gibson pitching tonight. The guy has great stuff and he nibbles instead of attacking hitters. Got to have a little fire in the belly. Big series!

The Detroit Tigers in 2014 had the 2011, 2012, and 2013 Cy Young winners in their top 3. Statistically speaking, their worst SP that season was Justin Verlander. One of the most dominant pitchers of all time.
Everyone seemingly had them as a lock to get to the World Series with their rotation.
They got swept by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round. They got beat 12-3, 7-6, and 2-1.

Is it great to have a bunch of aces in the postseason? Definitely.
Is it a prerequisite for winning a ring? Definitely not.

Neat. Now compare their bullpen that year with Houston's this year.

I wanted a title, less than that a hundred win season, but I've settled for breaking the HR record and maybe winning a wild card game.

Gibson with maybe the biggest start for him this season...walks 6 and out of the game in 4 and one third inning....walks Puig to load the bases after Twins clawing back for two runs.....now Littell seals the game....woof

Many said they needed pitching. Many said they needed more pitching than they went and got. Many were right.

Same thing as the Vikings. The "experts" said they'd be fine, but the general fan base that doesn't even pay much attention saw they needed pitching/OL help and cried for it and then it was the team's downfall.

Pretty much. We'll see if the Vikings did enough in that area this offseason and get lucky with health for a change.

With the Twins much of the clamor was mid season after we knew hitting wasn’t an issue. And unlike the Vikings, baseball doesn’t have a cap and the Twins payroll wasn’t very high (comparatively). The Twins absolutely could have done more.
