Is he the 5th kid off of that 03 Gentry/Galaxy team to commit somewhere now?
Sixth I believe, both Lucius's and Kurth here, Harvey to BU, Martin to Miami, and Schimek to Providence.
Their goalie from last year just committed to BU today too.

Gentry's remaining schedule. Only a couple of chances to see the team locally.

I like that Jake Boltmann is playing his senior year at Edina. You can tell he is really trying to add an offensive side to his game. He’s going to play at least a year of juniors and I think HS hockey is good for him this year. I don’t think he would have had the offensive opportunity if he stayed in the USHL this year. He also runs the top PP with Nick Williams.

Side note - there are going to be a lot of teams after Edina FR Jimmy Clark in a few years

Back-to-back three-point nights for Knies, who's up to 21 points in 24 games as a 17-year-old for Tri-City.

Koster also picked up a pair of assists tonight.

Nik Norman is really struggling. He is on his 3rd NAHL team this year. I see he is still a commit on his twitter, but as others have said, I don't ever see him making it to campus unless it is strictly as a walk-on.

Heard that it’s likely Huglen won’t play at all this year.

Really unfortunate. Back injury, too, which are always tricky. Curious how this impacts the 2020 forward class.

If I were to guess I’d say Jensen, Pitlick and Nevers are lined up for next year.

Nevers and Jensen should both play ushl next year. We only lose marooney. Ranta probably only flight risk.

No way Ranta is actually a flight risk unless CO's GM is on hallucinogens.

I don’t think he will or should leave, just think he is only possibility. Lose Marooney, bring in Pitlick. Would be ideal to have more balanced classes, but not sure how coaches could make that happen

So is Pitlick doing the best (of the bunch) playing Juniors? Because bringing him in next year doesn't fit with to axiom of getting the roster older.☝️

If you rush "getting older," you're going to lower your team's overall talent very quickly unless you can steal a recruit that's older who hasn't signed his LOI. Can't just load up on overage kids who haven't committed yet for the sake of getting older.

By the fall of 2021, they lose McManus, Munson, Reedy and let's say one other guy leaves up front. They could then, in theory, bring in Huglen and Nevers who would both be 20 by then, and Jack Jensen as a 21-year-old if he is willing to play USHL next year. Add in, hopefully, Cruz Lucius as an 18-year-old which nobody will argue against I don't think.

What about Weber? Is he taking a medical redshirt or does he not even slate to be a regular and is more of a depth guy?

I checked Nevers & Pitlick USHL numbers & while Nevers numbers are better, they are pretty close. Pitlick is also (actually) older than Nevers (Pitlick will turn 19 in Feb, Nevers will turn 19 in April). So I could see them bringing Pitlick in Fall 2020 Jensen on the other hand isn’t coming in next fall IMO, he’s struggled a bit in Juniors & appears to need another year, and accordingly, he’s likely be willing to play a 2nd USHL season☝️

I think you aim to average 19 year old freshman. Have some elite 18 year olds, balanced with 20 year olds. Pitlick will be 19 and I think is more ready than Nevers or Jensen.

The next year could be interesting, Lucius comes in at 18, but also Knies and Broz coming off 2 years of ushl might also look to come in. Will need older guys like Jensen or Nevers to balance out.

Woukd have to imagine Knies is part of the 2021 class. Strong start as a 17 year old; will have two years in USHL and is more physically developed than most of his peers. Broz may press the issue, and despite a sluggish year, Pinoniemi will have two full USHL seasons at the time. Going to be interesting to see how it shakes out.

It will be very interesting to see how Bob works the forward classes in the next three years. He will earn his money if he can convince kids to play that extra year of juniors.

Obviously there will be kids that need years in juniors but depending on what he does with the 2020 forward class, he could have upwards of 11 kids eligible for the 2021 class (and that’s also eliminating Norman already). It just feels like he may have to bring in a extra forward next year just to balance out the 2021 class.

Assuming Pitlick is the most likely choice for 2020, here is what you could have available for 2021

Player (current grade)
Huglen (GR) - guaranteed for 2021 but I could see him in 2020 if they need to balance it out.
Nevers (GR) - 2021 for sure
Jensen (GR) - 2021 for sure
Broz (JR) - 2021. I just don’t see him playing three years of juniors
Knies (JR) - 2021. Same as Broz
Lucius (SO) - 2021. I’m pretty positive he is only a sophomore but very old for his grade. He will be 17 in May.

I kind of lump these four all in the same category. Depending on early departures and how they develop in juniors:
Braccini (SR)
Warner (SR)
Mittelstadt (SR)
Pinoniemi (SR)

Very unlikely these two come in as true freshman but they would be able to based solely on age:
Miller (JR)
Tussey (JR)

That just shows you how packed the forwards are for the next few years. That also doesn’t take into account the potential for late bloomers to be added to those classes. Bob is going to have to work some magic and sell these kids on the importance of juniors.

Nice summary.

Players who press the issue with Bob will probably have to find another school as he gets his recruits lined up.

The more players that take this route, https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/300838/ben-meyers, the better off Minnesota will be. If the coach convinces the non-first or second round picks to play either three years in the USHL or two years post-HS, combined with the talent of kids he has access to recruit... then look out.

Lucius is on track to be an exceptions there as Pronman put him in his early top 20 and Knies didn't make that cut, but in the comments drew praise as being right in the mix $ - https://theathletic.com/1372733/2019/11 ... nhl-draft/

I’m excited for Knies, he shows up a ton in Tri City’s extended highlight, skilled, gritty, he’s huge too. Also the only ‘02 that made the WJAC team.

How does Jake Braccini project? Not much chatter about him here usually. I know he was Bantom POY a couple years back, and that is about all I know about him. Has his development continued through HS?

That Buffalo team he's playing with right now is really really bad, and his numbers have suffered because of it. He will have to play juniors next year and we'll see how it goes.

Just boxscore scouting (infallible, I know) fairly promising year for many recruits. Many of these players (Broz as well) should be back for a second USHL season. Should start to see more of tBob's vision come to fruition.

Thanks for pointing out Broz. I forgot about him. I almost put Bohlsen in there, but remembered he is going to Omaha now. My only worry is looks like more play makers than goal scorers, but that could change when they get to college or get older.

I agree. I think he has the potential to be really good after a year or two of juniors. He’s a strong kid and a very good skater with a great shot. I’ve liked him a lot when I saw him play last year. He does need to work on his game away from the puck though which I think he will develop in juniors.

I heard his dad was pushing for him to go to college next year...if that’s the case shocked he didn’t at-least play juniors before and after season. Even NAHL if he wanted to be closer to him. Buffalo season will end early so see what he does then.

Another ranking. Faber at 53. Highest I have seen Cole Hansen at #99, don’t think he’s even in Central Scouting rankings. Thought Ratzlaff would be higher, haven’t seen him play a ton, just based on how people talk about his size and athleticism.

I view him as a boom or bust player. He is definitely gifted with a lot of athleticism but he is very raw at this point. He relies mostly on his athleticism and strength in the defensive end. It wouldn’t surprise me if he goes with football in the end but you have to think he has a better chance to make a living in hockey.

He says he is still going there "as of right now". Not a sure fire " I'm excited and looking forward to going there". It appears he is leaving the door open, which is his right.
“A lot of kids don’t develop until around sophomore year, which is where they put the rule now,” Ratzlaff said. “For me, all of a sudden a hockey opportunity was right there and I decided to go with it. Minnesota is still a great place, and I’m still going there as of right now. But I was probably a little young, to be honest. So, I’m happy they made the change.”
Ratzlaff said he plans to “keep as many of my options open” as possible, though he knows time is short.

It could be more about his decision on which sport to play. If he gets drafted.....he should be a Gopher.

That is kind of the vibe I get. Waiting to see which football offers roll in before he makes his final decision.

I recall during the down years in the Lucia tenure, there was a poster convinced moving Joe Miller to the first line was a tonic for our ails. Really the heyday of the forum.

Yep, I feel like most here will get the reference but if not that’s a good explanation. That guy was either a really good troll or a relative of his 😂

Not the first Fish to play at the "U". There was a Bob Fish from Warroad (I believe via the Fargo-Moorhead team in the old Midwest Junior League) in the mid 70s.

Was it Scott Bell that always posted a picture of Herb Brooks with a fish on Twitter when ever we got a commitment? Never more appropriate than now.

I just think he fits a role. A 3rd pair d man who hopefully will provide some grit and sandpaper that is much needed on this team. If his career mirrors Parenteau or Helgeson, I would be happy.
