Didn't even realize SCSU had picked up a solid Finn for the upcoming season this month. Crap.

I heard it the same way.

If we don’t add someone new for next year it’s pretty likely we could see 4 right handed centers, kinda odd.
Or no righty d
Yeah that’s not ideal...

Idk if the center thing matters as much but there’s some evidence that handedness and evening out your D pairings does.
If the D are good enough..,which way they shoot is of secondary importance.
That's not the problem, retrieving the puck and quickly making breakout passes along the boards with your opposite hand during a hard forecheck is very difficult. Though hopefully once some of the dead weight is out on D maybe it'll be resolved in the future.
True, it is...but when playing the off-side, one advantage on a dump in...you can retrieve the puck & then skate around the net on your forehand to make the outlet pass. It’s also harder to hold the point off your backhand, but a lot easier to walk the puck to the middle from the off side on your forehand. Generally I agree with pairing lefties & righties, but not uniformly, specifically when the D playing on the off side is a really skilled player.

Well there are some exceptions, if you had EK, Letang, Subban, and Pietrangelo all on the same team you'd make it work. But there's a reason NHL teams typically balance it out.

Recruits Ryan Johnson, Aaron Huglen, Jackson LaCombe, Rhett Pitlick and Mike Koster make Corey Pronman 2019 NHL Draft Rankings--Brodzinski and Brinkman don't make this list. I would assume both with be in the just missed the cut article tomorrow.

I'm surprised on Brodzinksi not making it because he's been such a scorer in HS and when he played in the USHL--usually that is something that will be a trump card in his rankings. Pronman has never been very impressed with Minnesota HS hockey though either.

I think Brinkman doesn't make this list because Pronman values offensive upside over reliability and he admits this in critique responses.

Lots of interesting notes in the descriptions of the prospects.Johnson gets the tag, 'Legit NHL Prospect/Bottom Half of Roster (Second-Round Pick)' and the rest get 'Legit/Chance Bubble (Midround Pick)' status.

$ - https://theathletic.com/367378/2018/05/ ... ards-work/

Thought it was interesting he went through this exercise to just show how his board works in practice and shows that the Canucks kind of do it in a similar fashion:

https://canucksarmy.com/2013/06/25/did- ... aft-board/

Pronman Posted another article profiling more prospect and still no Brinkman or Brodz. He did have Ryder Donnovan and Kranilla.
That’s a mistake on his part plain and simple

I agree, here is his response. Brinkman had 7 points in 38 games as very young D-man. Donnovan had 1 point in 9 ushl games (14 career games, 1 assist).

Probably not the worst thing if his draft stock isn't that high and we get him for 4 years.

Comparing our top D recruits to well known players:

Koster plays similar to JBSU’s Jack Ahcan from what I’ve heard. Johnson could be a Perunovich type player and Lacombe sounds like a Mike Reilly 2.0.

Ahcan, Perunovich, and Reilly on the same d core sounds gross. Trying my very best not to overhype these kids...trying.

Not sure about those comparisons...either way that’s assuming all 3 reach their potential, while wearing maroon and gold.

Hyping the freshman can be fun, but Mittelstadt was much more hyped that Perunovich. We all would have taken him over Perunovich given the choice...see how that looks in hindsight.

Agreed. You can never have too many with his kind of attitude. :club:

Weber is a player that creates separation for puck movement on the offensive side of things, while also playing the gritty, physical style of hockey.

He is a player that will always have his teammates backs and never back down from a tough situation in the corner. Weber even has a fight to his name this season.

After seeing Walker get punched in the face multiple times and the whole team just watching it happen, I am fully in favor of adding a few guys that will have their teammates backs a little more

I think it will be interesting to see how coaches build the lines, in past many of the older guys with size or grit were put on lower lines. I wonder if Motzko will try to get some of those types (Weber, Nelson, Sorenson) with some of the skill players on top 2 lines. Also interested if he will be able to keep together the BMW line, or if he’ll break them up for balance. I’m sure we’ll see a ton of combinations early in season

Putting grinders on the top lines is a recipe for disaster and I highly doubt 4th liners got too many top six minutes at St Cloud under Bob.

I see zero reason to break up the BMW line.

Not sure any of us can label the guys I mentioned Grinders yet. They may end up being just that, but we should see them play some games first. The top lines could use a physical presence and guys that can win wall battles. No one saw Burke this playing significant role at start of last season.

Understood about specific names I didn't even notice that. I just read it as spread the talent at the expense of the top lines and we had seen that doesn't work in recent years when the forward depth was bad.

Really it just comes down to chemistry rather than forcing players onto certain lines that they don’t fit on. And I mostly agree with Bonin’s logic but I doubt most of us thought Burke would be that much more effective than Ranta going into last season.

I know the consensus is to recruit older, which I generally agree with. But Broz is one of the few I'd make an exception for (he's also pushing 17). You could make an argument he was the top uncommitted high school prospect.

I doubt they are related ... Broz and him really aren't on the same level at this point in terms of career trajectory and when they'd hit campus.

At this point he's not an elite guy like say a Lucius or Ryan Johnson but he's probably in that next tier where he can be a top six guy with a lot of upside in college, depending on how the next few years go. Granted Fargo was a good team and this is a very small sample size but to put up four points in six games at the end of last season in the USHL is a good sign.

Blake should be a contender this season so would assume he'll play one more year there, then USHL for a year and see where things stand.

I like him. First saw him last Fall in the Elite League & his skating ability immediately stood out. Type of player who should thrive on the big ice sheet (at Mariucci). A nice get for the Gophers IMO

A friend of mine close with Fargo Force said he will be playing USHL this year. We’ll see if he’s right, he also said he is ready based on camp and last year and that he is super dynamic.

May said that Boston College, Michigan and Minnesota were Broz’s three finalists, but coaches from at least five more schools had come calling, and Tristan had a myriad college options.
Broz also skated in six games with the USHL’s Fargo Force in the spring, and is planning to do a “before and after” in Fargo, playing there in the fall and spring of his junior season of high school. His prep coach is in full support of the plan.

Broz, Knies, Miller, Ratzlaff, Tussey invited to USA Hockey's Select 17 camp. Williams was not.

Almost like he was a Motzko recruit all along. Pretty excited about Huglen; seems to have the skill-set to play multiple roles.

Considering LaCombe's skill set and Motzko's coach speak in the article, I can see him being used to quarterback the power play as soon as he is able.

Updated the recruits page with what I've confirmed so far.

https://www.gopherpucklive.com/recruits

I think there is another one to add later today and another question mark that could be pending until August.

That is a ton of recruits for one year. And when you look at how many are slated for 2020...whoa!

Most of the 2020 grads will play a year of juniors probably. Jensen, Huglen, and Pitlick are the three forwards I think for sure come in 2020 and Jensen is one of the two TBD for this season. Our pipeline is nowhere near as ridiculous as uw's.

What guesses for the add that Vegoe mentioned? Assuming Johnson is the August question mark.

We have a ton of '01's committed, but we with juniors and early departures we should be fine. Nik Norman may not even make a junior team next year, still seems unlikely he's ever part of the team.

According to Heisenberg, the BADgers have 32 commits and the Gophers have 30. However, on the recruiting page of some site named gopherpucklive.com, the Gophers have 32 commits.

I am not going to spend the time looking for inaccuracies, but it looks like we've caught up.

Ryan Johnson was the one to be determined. I think there's potential one more could be added by the time the season gets going... but we shall see.

It's not official yet--transfers and international players aren't as simple as just signing an NLI.
