On many Olympic Ice sheets (Super Rink for example) the corners are a lot more shallow because the boards start angling more towards the lower 1/3 on the D
I didn't think there was an Olympic sheet at Schwan's. Which sheet are you referring to?

Rinks 1-4 are Olympic size. Rinks 5-8 are NHL size.

Geez. Been there a million times for tournaments and didn't think anything of it. Even with 9 and 10 year olds. It just wasn't a factor.
So redesign Mariucci's corners and be done.

My kids have been skating on 2, 3 and 7 quite often lately and I have never noticed. I guess that shows you how much the corners make a difference. I just watched a video of my kid skating on 3 and the circles are further away from the boards but not nearly what it seems at Mariucci.

The Champlin Rink looks like a damn square and MUCH bigger than Super Rink 1-4.

Since we are talking size of rinks, I have always had this question: What size is the home rink for the NTDP? If their goal is really to develop future Olympic teams it's probably Olympic size, right?

They used both when they were based in Ann Arbor. Now that they're in Plymouth, they just play on an NHL sheet.

:confused2:

And the Herb Brooks number 6 rink in Blaine is NHL size as well. Ha!

Anyway, back on topic?

We might have missed out on the four of the five best cake eaters as far as college impact.

Lee, Budish, Malmquist, Fogarty, Mismash?

I can’t remember if it was him or someone else mentioned that there were certain places that he didn’t even bother recruiting because he knew he wasn’t going to get players from there. Seems like Edina might have been one of those places.

Most of those were when we “couldn’t get” Edina players. We’ll find out in a couple years whether the “pipeline” does us any good.

Kind of funny how the tables have turned. I think it was after Marshall Everson, there was a belief Edina players were avoiding Minnesota for one reason or another. Now it is a farm team.

Shattuck pipeline dried up when Ward left so Edina was chosen as the farm team.

And Mismash isn't an Edina HS guy.

We have one on the team and two in the pipeline right now. But Shattuck also isn't quite what it used to be in terms of talent.

shattuck program isn’t even close to what it once was. As the Ushl has gotten younger it’s made an impact on who they get to play there. Not sure if losing their director of hockey ops made a huge difference but JP was the juice behind the program. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen the loaded teams of 10-15 years ago.

'01-born, will be a senior next year. Played on a line with Sammy Walker this year. 55 points in 25 games as well as 36 in 21 during Elite League play, but his size isn't gonna make some people on this board happy. Son of former minor league baseball player (and, briefly, Gopher hockey player) Tom.

67 points in 31 games if you count playoffs.

It will be interesting to see how he does without Walker around as Walker was the driver of that line while Nevers and Jett Jungels were there to finish and clean up the scraps.

I thought he was he was a better player than Jungels (Northern Michigan commit) the few times I saw him but there has been some debate over which of those two is better.

Hammy, do you know if Motzko just sealed the deal, or is this a recruit tDon's regime had passed on?

Everything you said is fair - but, honestly, over 2pts per game in the metro is no joke. Either Nevers is the real deal, or we should be VERY excited about Walker if he has that much of an impact on average players around him.

Definitely didn't say they were average players. Walker was probably the best player in the state at lugging the puck the length of the ice which left a lot less work to be done for linemates. Nevers clearly knows how to finish, has good hands, and when I saw him he had a noticeably high hockey IQ.

It will just interesting to see how he does as the driver of the line if he's back at Edina next year.

I know Tommy Nevers didn’t play for the U out of high school as he played baseball but later on did he actually play for the hockey team or did he just practice with them in hopes of playing for the team? #longsentence

Quick Story: Tom Nevers was drafted in the first round of the 1990 MLB draft. Shortly after he was drafted, when I was 9 years old and super big into baseball, I got to play catch with him for about 30 minutes at a family function (my older cousin played baseball for Edina and Notre Dame and had some connection to him). It was the highlight of my first decade on the planet. I will definitely be rooting extra hard for this recruit. Proceed...

Looking at forward numbers it doesn’t seem we need Nelson next year. Unless we think he’ll be upgrade over a current player.

I’m curious what we have in Hurley, and who plays center.

National signing period starts tomorrow. It will be interesting to see who signs. McLaughlin and Walker signed in the early period in November. Wait and Huff had signed previously.

It will also be worth watching verbals from other schools and if they sign or not.

Everyone's favorite list to make, the USA Today All-USA Boys Hockey Team:

http://usatodayhss.com/2018/2017-18-all ... eIdslide-5

Sammy Walker is on the first team and Ben Brinkman is on the second team.

There will be news on a decommit from one school coming here. Not sure when the player may say anything about it. I would suspect soon. Kind of a Motzko type so I can see why.

If its a forward I hope Nolan Walker. Watched a USHL game online and he was all over ice!

No idea who D would be. Perbix or Meier but wouldn’t call either of those Motzko types

By saying a Motzko type it makes it sound like not an SCSU kid. All SCSU kids could obviously be called Motzko types.

Hammy, could you define what a Motzko type is?

It's probably a less heralded older player that has the potential to develop into a good four year player.

Copeland had more points this year than McLaughlin. Think that would be coming across as much bigger news.

I’ve said it before but I think Nick Lievermann would be great in maroon and gold. His sister is currently at the U.

I think another strong possibility is Ben Meyers of Delano. He fits the Motzko type to a T. High scoring forward from a small town. Currently with Fargo in the USHL and averaging over a point per game since feb. He did just commit to Omaha in March but there is no mention of it on his social media anymore.

That and I just noticed that Hammy and Vegoe follow him on Twitter now

Would love that! My youngest son played on the same MN Selects team (with him) in St Cloud back in the day. Ben was a D at the time and outstanding! Hope it’s him!

Maybe we're going the uw route with the forward class next year. Recruit 14, pick 7.

In a scenario where we do get another forward commit, I cannot see how there would be room for Nelson barring a decommit or surprise departure.

He really needs another year in juniors doesn’t he? I keep reading here his game isn’t there yet.

I’m not sure about Wait. I know his production has been better this year, and is a smart player. I think he lacks speed, physicality, and isn’t always engaged in play.

Nelson is very young, would like to see him in USHL next year. Watched a couple of his games and he is so much better than last year, even earlier in this year. Is more intriguing than his stat line.

With the obvious caveat being a lot can change, should be a strong Gopher presence in the USHL next year:

Likely:
Colin Schmidt (Waterloo)
Sam Huff (Waterloo)
Lucas McGregor (Central Illinois)
Jaxon Nelson (Whioux Falls)
Kaden Bohlsen (Des Moines)
Jared Moe (Waterloo)

Possible:
Jack Jensen (Tri-City)
Mike Koster (Tri-City)
Jake Boltmann (Central Illinois)
Aaron Huglen (Fargo)
Jacob Braccini (Central Illinois)
Ben Brinkman (Waterloo)

Would be a fun year to track with so many in the league.

Jensen will not be playing at EP next year. Koster was named Captain so he will be back.

Mentioned in the Potential recruits thread but it looks like Ben Meyers is committed to the gophs now. Fargo Force line chart has “Minnesota” listed.

Yeah... I kind of wanted to give the guy the chance to announce it for himself without saying anything here but maybe the fact he had “committed” elsewhere before made it less of a “thing” for him.
