Ratzlaff seems pretty underrated around these parts, at least from a general chatter perspective. Draft-eligible next year and could generate a lot of buzz.

Luke Mittelstadt had four points in five games at the Select 16s and was named to today's All-Star game. He's the only current Gopher commit there.

He scored a goal in the All-Star game and was named to the '2019 U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team that will compete Aug. 13-17 at the Five Nations Tournament in Füssen, Germany.'

HS Elite League rosters have been posted. Everyone recruit you would expect to be listed is accounted for.

Braccini
Pinoniemi
Warner
Williams
Miller
J. Mittelstadt
L. Mittelstadt
Ratzlaff
Tussey

Broz and Boltmann are missing but that doesn’t surprise me. Broz is probably before-after in the USHL and I could see Boltmann going to the USHL and skipping his senior year.

Was surprised Edina had 'only' 2 players named and neither the goalie. I don't mean that as an indictment of their roster nor their chances this season as I think they're going to be quite good despite what they lost to graduation.
Currently under construction.

I don’t believe tDon would go as far as Rosemount to recruit.

Certainly was an influence on them taking him. Kyle Dubas scouted Koster in person as well this year.

Believe so. Huglen, the Lucius brothers, and Braccini followed soon thereafter.

Didn't Bell put out a message shortly after he left for the Toronto organization about getting Ryan Johnson to commit. I thought he was the driving force in getting him.

BTW -- Seeing Jack Jensen noting he'll be in Omaha this season with the Lancers. They acquired him in Spring 2018, but he wanted to stay home and do a before and after with the Magicians in the NAHL.

We should see the protected lists coming out this week:

Also Luke Mittelstadt was the highest scoring defenseman at the U17 Five Nations:

Which Gopher commit that wasn’t drafted is most likely to be picked in second year of eligibility? I’ll say Pinoniemi with Warner close behind.
Jack Jensen
This was his second year.
Was surprised he didn't go late even as an over-ager. Think he will get a lot of looks this go-around. Seems like a down draft for Americans and he probably will have a big role with Pitlick in Omaha

A poster at another board is claiming Motzko pulled the offer to Tussey. This was their comment in response to someone stating Tussey would be interviewed as part of the broadcasting the games between the USU17 and teams from the Elite League:
NT (Stillwater) couldn’t be in the USHL - he was sent home and dropped from Whioux City for an incident which also led to a de-committment by the U. It was talked about by a few high school coaches in the know and I believe it’s not a secret anymore. Just don’t let facts get in the way of “staying home to play in the HSEL and not in the USHL.” A USHL team doesn’t drop a talented kid like that off their 23 man/ 30 man rosters AND affiliate list for no reason - not even trading them. Nor does Motzko decommit someone for “no reason.”

A secondary source was a parent a kid that made the preseason roster, who was also subsequently cut and told of the story. Kids make mistakes. Hopes he rebounds and has a solid year and gets another chance in the USHL.
Currently under construction.

Not really surprising there are a lot of forwards lined up.

I could see Nick Williams ending up elsewhere too.

I really don’t understand the criticism NW gets on this board from some posters. The kid is skilled & smart & played well on a AA state champ team (last year). Long term, I like him better than another Edina HS recruit (a D) who may be playing USHL this year. If another MN team happened to have room for NW (down the road) I’d have no problem adding him ☝️

Yes. It's a big enough deal that it justifies cutting him loose if that's what Motzko wants to do. It's a small enough deal that he could look past it if he really wanted Tussey at the U.

Again sorry for the vagueness although this comment from elsewhere seems to shed a bit more light:
He would have made the team. Whether it was a before and after or a full time player. Preseason camp was a one week deal in late July that included 3 games at the end of the week. One intrasquad and 2 games against Whioux Falls. Incident happened before the games started (but after the practices were done). He didn't play in a single game.

Unfortunately his actions affected another Minnesota player - tryout goalie Remmington Keopple. His gear was in NT's truck when the incident happened. Keopple couldn't skate the morning session the day after the "incident." When I heard that, that bothered me the most. Screwing over other teammates. Many teammates were pretty upset over the actions.

I watched NT in probably 10 games over past few years and trust me this is not a huge loss for the Gophers.

Saw Fargo put Huglen on Injured Reserve 09/19. Anybody have an idea of how serious the injury is?

Is Mike Koster also hurt?

The subsequent tweets have a couple of GIFs of the goals from Elite League action.
I thought this was about his fifth goal of the season.

This was his fifth goal of the game. Janicke also had five goals.

They beat an "elite" league team 17-5...

Anyone know when the elite league IIT tournament is this year? I could find 2019 on their website.
Shattuck's web site shows it as November 1,2 and 3.

Chaz has 10 goals in 6 games. Is he a junior or soph? Wonder if there is chance he will accelerate to come in next year.

He just played some MN HS kids. No indication he'd be ready for that yet and I can't think of an NTDP ever going to college after one season there.

Zach Werenski and Noah Hanifin both did it a few years ago. Al Montoya too. I can't think of a forward that ever did that off the top of my head. Lucius is off to a nice start, but I'm not sure he'd be a great candidate for it.

I am friends with 2 people who are very plugged in and if I were to reveal them (which I never will), you would all know they are legit.

The one who told me about Brink said (at the time) he was 70% sure Brink was flipping. I’m the one who made the mistake of announcing it as if it was a sure thing, and for that, I deserve the ridicule.

Sooooo, if you just scored a goal...I think I deserve credit for an assist. :rim:

I checked on that rumor...I have a lot of pretty solid connections to tonka hockey. Message came back that if he's going to flip the head coach knows nothing about it, so I figured it was probably not going to happen.

I would have been fun to have him, but Gophers had Middlestadt come in a couple years ago, - a smallish forward with a storied high school career - and we saw how that turned out. Great player but not enough time here even to think back on him as a Gopher great....just another kid who came in for a year and left early.

Can't miss something you never had, and I like Motzko's approach to bringing in kids with more playing experience.

Mittlestadt came at the absolute worst possible time and I kinda doubt he'd move on after only a year if things weren't as tumultuous, though it's hard to know for certain. I feel like blue chippers staying a 2nd year or longer is more common than them leaving after a year though I haven't looked into it all that closely.

As for Brink there's not much that can be done about it now, onward and upward.

I tend to agree with this take. Under different circumstances, CM most likely stays a 2nd year. The way that year ended with such an abrupt thud, plus being the 8th overall pick, both contributed to jumping ship.

Maybe, it's a super small sample size of top 10 forwards who played in the NCAA and therefore hard to predict what will happen going forward. But so far that's been the case.

Lucius continues his stat line that would look good for a pitcher.

11 - 0

All goals through seven games. Team has four wins. He has 4 GWG.

Went to the Lincoln vs SF USHL game last night. Boltmann played for Lincoln, and Pinoniemi for SF. My 2 cents. 1st time seeing either player play. Boltmann was on the 1st pair defense, and played 1st unit PK and ran the point on one of Lincoln's PP units. He was on the ice for 3 of Lincoln's 6 goals. Joined the rush, but also threw his body around. Really impressed with him. Pinoniemi played on the PP for SF. I felt he was overmatched and lost on the ice all night long. It seemed when his line was on the ice the play was always in their defense zone. I think he needs needs to build muscle and weight. I know these kids are both young yet, and it was only 1 game, so things can change as the year goes on. Again, really liked Boltmann's game.

Always enjoy those recaps, frozen4. I was happy to see Pinoniemi back at Holy Family with the expectation he is a 2021 recruit. While most recruits are in need of time to mature physically, he perhaps needs the time more than most. Interested to see how his development goes over the next two years.

I don’t think too much passing was the problem toward the end of the Lucia era, if anything we could’ve used more guys on the blue line that could complete basic passes. When Sadek is one of your better offensive Dmen for the last few years that’s a problem. Same with the fourth line, it actually used to be ok when we had guys like Guertler and Boyd who were good passers and not just grinders.

Novak is one guy I can think of who was a bit one dimensional in terms of being a pass first guy but he’s a pretty extreme example.

The problem at the end of the Lucia era is that the defensemen were just bad at hockey in general lol.

Well yeah, they weren’t particularly good at anything but some of those guys were clearly recruited for offensive upside that never materialized.
