Didn't help. The first two periods were embarrassing, and the 3rd was almost as bad. Something is seriously wrong with this team.

Are they missing players to Covid or injury? Have not heard much about it.

That was tough to watch. Unfortunately not very surprising.

I kind of alternate between being angry and sad.

A little better today, but still so many unforced errors. However we did get two early to up 2-0, after one. Goals by Boreen and Zumwinkle.

Wow! Gophers look like they are inconvenienced by the intensity of the Buckeyes.

Ohio State works their butts off and hustles and plays intense. The Gophers say "Hey, man, slow down"!

That third goal was ridiculous, but the whole 2nd period is ridiculous. First period we just happened to score a couple easy ones early.

The Gophers skate to the bench for their line changes at about two MPH no matter what is going on.

To me, third period was a little better.

So many scratched players doesn’t help.

But, my gosh, I don’t understand this team. They have talent to threaten any team. But they don’t look very good way too much of the time. I expected a lot more from this team :anger:

Forgive me, but I gotta chime in one more time. We are 1-6-1 over our last 8 games. This is a frigging disaster. We have two games left, against Bemidji who is having a terrible year, so maybe we’ll win a couple and we’ll make the WCHA tournament

I imagine Bench lost her spot in the post season with that third goal today. But when a team performs below their talent level like the Gophers have it’s hard to expect a goaltender to bail them out on a regular basis.

If we were to make the national tournament, this talent could go on a run. But, the way the team has performed, if we didn’t make the tourney it would be hard to say we didn’t get what we deserved.

Bemidji State has played 16 games and has not scored a power play goal, 0-27. They generally are having a very tough year.

Abigail Boreen is leading Gopher forwards in blocked shots by 5 with 15. Abigail is the bright spot of the year for Gophers. I am still amazed by how much she has improved. She plays extremely hard in all three zones, manages to score goals against the good teams, and appears to me to be getting the absolute most out of her ability.

If you want to get a look at Northeastern, they play Vermont at 4 and from what I can tell the stream is free:

Vermont is 6-2 although they haven't beaten worldbeaters or anything.

Gophers win rather easily, 6-1 final. One cause for concern is that they were only able to get 26 shots on net against a team that quite frankly isn't very good. The Gopher teams of yore would probably put twice as many as that on goal.

I'm not sure of the injury situation, but Skaja, Ostertag, Cherkowski and Burton were not in the lineup this evening.

Bright spot: Amy Potomak is getting her game back. She's looking like her old self, and that's a very encouraging sign for the team.

Cause for concern: Lauren Bench was having problems controlling rebounds. A better team would have cashed in on a few of those. Hopefully just a one-off that all good tenders will have every now and then. She did come up with some huge saves when the game was still somewhat in doubt, and ended with 15 saves on 16 shots. The one that found its way to the back of the net was pretty fluky.

Overall: A solid win, one that I'm sure the coaches were quite pleased with, and would gladly take another just like it in Saturday's rematch.

Yes, it’s a bummer we have so many players out. Numbers wise we really miss the forwards, but I particularly miss seeing Ostertag. The defensemen haven’t been as good as I expected and I would have loved to see Ostertag out there.

I suspect Pahl may be pencilled in for the postseason. On what basis? I don’t know, guessing

I totally forgot to extend my congratulations to Grace Zumwinkle on a terrific game. Not very often that you score half the team's goals (3 of 6) and add an assist. Obviously very deserving of the No. 1 Star she was given.

Do you think we maybe left #13 a little bit alone in front of our net

44% shooting percentage for both teams thus far at 4-1 :)

A little closer to 33% by the end of the period.............

I think that's what you call "hanging your goalie out to dry" (or something like that). In any case a terrible defensive breakdown on which the Beavers capitalized.

When the Gophers scored their 4th their shooting percentage was 50% (4 for 8!). A real softie that went right through Hogenson's glove, after which she was promptly pulled.

One other note: Grace Z. made a beautiful pass to Abbey Murphy entering the O zone, and Murphy let go a beautiful wrister that found the back of the net. Would sure like to see more of that kind of teamwork from this point forward.

Gophers add two more in the second to make it 6-1. The 5th was a great deke in close by (who else?) Grace Z after a nice setup by Amy P. And Goal No. 6 was potted by Crystalyn Hengler on a hard wrist shot as she moved in from the point on the power play.

One thing that I've noticed that's real good to see is the Gophers' passing in all three zones. In particular they are making good use of hitting the trailer and creating some great chances as they move in as a unit. I hope they can continue to do this when they face some tougher competition.

Absolutely. I think that's one of the best ways to benefit from a game like. Develop that part of the game rather than the pond hockey highlight reel.

Especially since this team particularly could benefit from that.

Gophers add a couple more to make it a 9-1 final. SOG 36-11.

It was said on the broadcast that the Gophers will need to win the Final Faceoff to make the National Tourney field?

I didn't hear that. I had the sound off (although I like the BSU announcer!).

But that seems reasonable to me. We went 1-6-1. And we saw this weekend the level of our players. The way we have played as a team we don't deserve any favors it seems to me.

Once I get a better view of the whole situation and who ends up in and who ends up out I may change my tune

We might as well just run the table from here on out!

UMD comes back and scores two in the final 10 minutes to beat Mankato 2-1. My guess is with this outcome we'll be playing the BADgers in the first game of the FF....just a guess though.

The Gophers will be in the NCAA Tournament. They are 10-0 against teams not named Ohio State and Wisconsin.

The people saying they need to win to get in are the people who have no idea the pairwise wont work this year due to the lack of non conference games.

You might be right, but I don’t think anyone’s counting on the pairwise for anything.

There’s 8 teams in the tournament, there are 4 auto bids, and we are in 4th place in the WCHA.
We’ll see.

OTOH....never mind

UMD plays Wisconsin twice next week (and Mankato today). We could easily end up in third place.

We are in 4th due to the unbalanced schedule. UMD has been feasting on the NSIC portion of the conference. We have played Wisconsin and Ohio State a combined 10 times. UMD has played those two teams....twice, with a pair vs WI next week.

Think our standings might look a bit better with only 2 games each vs OSU and WI and 2 more games each against mankato st cloud and bemidji?

The gophers will be considered the #3 WCHA team when it comes to ncaa consideration. They will get in. Unless their are some crazy upsets in the ECAC or Hockey East.

I saw Roque behind the bench. I was surprised she was there, actually. But I didn’t realize all this drama was going on!

The link usually shows up the day of the game.

Thanks for the link, Lancaster. The last game between these two just eight days ago was a real tight one, with Edina getting a late third period goal and an empty-netter for a 2-0 win. BSM had a slight edge in shots, 32-28. Red Knights are D-focused with good balance throughout their lineup, and have excellent goaltending, but seem to be offensively challenged. Looking forward to watching Edina's two Gopher recruits, Conner and Jungles, as they try to break through Benilde's strong D.

Wisconsin threw everything they had at UMD, who had 4-2 lead, in the 3rd period. Duluth held them off, and looked pretty darn poised doing it to win 4-2. Soderburg with tremendous glove save from point blank with 7:33 to go which was huge for the Bulldogs.

I believe that secures 4th place in the WCHA for the Gophers

Gophers start the postseason Saturday at 1 v Wisconsin. Get ready Gophs to reel off 5 in a row to finish the season. Now is the time. Make a statement.

Games are at 1 and 5. WCHA is giving themselves an extra hour between games due to lack of fans.

I think Ohio State is better than UMD, but after the performance UMD gave this weekend v Wisconsin I think I may be rooting for the Bulldogs in the second game next Saturday.

Wonder who will be scratched this weekend.
1. Ostertag
2. Cherkowski
3. Skaja
4. Burton

That's a bunch of players out that would make winning these games tougher. Hopefully some of these at least will be back. Ostertag has missed so much. She would be my first choice but she may really not be in game shape. Cherkowski is due to do some damage.

Gophers vs Ohio State volleyball this weekend postponed due to health challenges at Minnesota.

Once again, the reminder the weekend is successful if the games get played.

Doesn’t FSN usually carry the Sunday afternoon title game, is that the case this weekend as well?
doesn't sound like it.

In fact it won't even be on BTN+, just flohockey, so even less eyes.
FloHockey is the WCHA home.... So it makes sense.
It does, but BTN+ was also streaming all the Big Ten teams games all season and with the games at MN and all three big ten teams in the field I thought they might also stream them, but that appears not to be the case.

I have BTN+, I do not have Flo...so it is what it is.

I looked into Flo, and it's a paysite. From what I remember, it's not cheap, either.

I wonder who is doing play by play. Dan would make sense logistically. Even though he’s the Gopher guy, I think he would do a good job and not act like a Gopher homer on this assignment.

It would be nice if Madeline played like she knew this was a team game.

Jack Swanson. Not the most exciting announcer, but he does a decent job following the play.

BADgers get two very fluky goals to win 5-3. Season's likely over for the Gophers. :(

Remember when WI was a rivalry and not just an annual ass kicking in every sport? Hope the Gophers return to form next season.

We beat the BADgers 16 times in a row from 2012-15. Its cyclical.

Need to get a goalie again who is on the Raty/Leveille level. Havent had that in a few years.

Ohio State crushes UMD 7-2. I think Muzerall should have been named Coach of the Year. Johnson would take the Recruiter of the Year award.

Ohio State plays so aggressive all the time and drive toward the net relentlessly. And then when they get a 5 on 3 they sit back and calmly circle the perimeter  Very common in women’s hockey.

The new transfer syndrome is a danger to college sports. There is already plenty of competitive imbalance. Clarkson and Wisconsin clearly have no qualms.

2-2 after regulation. 15 minutes to resurface and 20 minutes 5 on 5 OT.

Ohio State will be more tired than Wisconsin. But the Buckeyes work their butts off and they have a chance. Odds favor the BADgers.

Never mind, Ohio State crapped the bed. That was a nasty 42 seconds they played

I don't know if this is still current, or if they were the ones in the room:

This is from the NCAA 2020-21 Pre-championship Manual-

Current members of the committee are:
Anita Brenner, chair Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA Cornell University
Katie Crowley Head Women’s Ice Hockey Coach Boston College
Kate McAfee Associate Commissioner Hockey East Association
Josh Berlo Director of Athletics University of Minnesota Duluth
Paul Flanagan Head Women’s Ice Hockey coach Syracuse University
