How good are we talking? We always get the best.

Heise: point per game as freshman
Zumwinkle: point per game as freshman
Potomak: 54 points in 38 games as freshman (what happened to her?)
Pannek: 44 in 41
Brandt: 82 in 41...
Wethington is a Zumwinkle, Heise level talent, but being a defenseman, we probabley won't see those kind of numbers.

It's hard to judge her off points because she's a defenseman but she's played varsity for Blake since 7th grade and made the US U18 team as a 15 year old.

2 players from three different schools? That's pretty lame
Your opinion no doubt based on seeing these, and those who should be listed instead, play so many games.

That is the key question! Pannek has had a disappointing year but she has also had a number of good moments. Sarah Potomak is a mystery as to why her game has been so far off. I think most fans have not given up on her, however, and every week expect her to turn it around.

Small class coming in next year, but I think it’s more likely they do a Clarkson and bring in a senior transfer rather than another freshman next year, seeing what is coming in the following year.

I don’t think it’s good for the game for players like TT Cianfarano and Kassidy Sauve to bail on their programs and go to two time defending champions for their last year but better us than Clarkson.

I got Robinson playing forward next year even though she prefers d.

Assuming no defections and everybody shows up as planned:

Scobee at forward?

No doubt Wethington will be a huge addition on D next season, but overall it looks to me like we'll be losing (esp. Pannek, Schammel and Williamson) more than we gain.

I agree with you on the one for one trade off.

But with the addition of Wethington and another year of development of our young D, I think it’s a really good D corps that we are putting together.

And if the Potomaks can get some kind of scoring knack going…how big of an if is that :confused2: …even with the loss of those players from this year……..
this year we are getting some of our swagger back, and I think next year that could keep developing and be a really good team.

It seems like the team doesn't have the "it" factor we had in our recent dominant years. That's why I was hoping the new gal was an elite level playmaker like the ones that led us to multiple championships in a short period.

We always compete, but expectations are higher for the ladies.

Exactly, we did not have the "it" factor last year for sure and I don't think we had it two years ago either.

But that's what I'm saying about the swagger. It's starting to come back now. How much so, we'll see as the rest of the year happens. And I'd like to see it continue next year. I think it's possible with a solid D corps and a couple great lines. We don't need 4 lines like we have this year.

I noticed on the Hub that Makayla Pahl has not played for her very beleaguered Rochester Mayo team since late December. Anyone know what's going on, injury or ???.

I did see a write up for one Mayo game that said she had sat out that particular game with an injury. Nothing on what kind of injury, or how long she'd be out.

Thanks, enjoyed it.

Boy do they relax every time they sing the pop songs! Not so much the Blake song. That Maddie knows Jack Nicklaus I think bodes well for her future as a Gopher

On a different note, ninth graders Madison Kaiser (Andover) and Claire Enright (Farmington) score overtime goals tonight to send their teams to the State Tournament.

Too bad it's directly opposite the Gopher women's game, otherwise I'd be there!

I debated this a bit also, but I'm doing the double header of Chicago Mission at 3:00 at Mariucci then the Gopher game. I was at Parade on Wednesday for the semifinals.

To no one's surprise, Madeline Wethington is named Ms. Hockey.

It is surprising that she is not committed somewhere yet.

I see on the Neutral Zone recruiting site they list Shelbi Guttormson, from Moorhead, playing on the SSM U16 team as a committed recruit to Minnesota for 2021. I have not seen any other information on this to confirm that and am wondering if this is incorrect information. Maybe a recruit for UMD or Minnesota State?

I saw that and did a little digging. Her Instagram, or one of those pages that old farts like me know little about, says she is headed to Mankato.

Thanks for checking into that. following your lead, I did a search on collegecommitments.com and found her listed on Feb 18 2019 as committed to Minnesota State.

USA Hockey's national championships in various divisions starts on Thursday. The Girls Tier One takes place in Irvine, California. Gopher recruits will be in all three age groups. On the Green Giant team in the 14u division are Forwards Madison Kaiser (Andover) and Rilee Winters (Brook Park). The Green Giants play in the Minnesota Hockey run fall tier 1 league. In 16u the Elite Grey team has sisters Tella and Vivian Jungels from Edina and goaltender Skylar Vetter (Lakeville). The Grey team plays in the fall Elite League run by Winny Brodt-Brown. Teams from this league have generally turned down playing in nationals except for the year Minnesota hosted the event (which they will do again next year). In the 19u division, Chicago Mission has three future Gophers, forwards Abbey Murphy (Evergreen Park, Illinois) and Elle Huber (Northfield, Illinois) and defenseman Josey Dunne (O'Fallon, Missouri).

I think her and M. Wethington are close, both big time talents. In the too-early-to-call-but....... category, Vivian Jungels and Claire Enright are really intriguing. And goalies are kind of a different animal, but Skylar Vetter's chance to be a three time U.S. u18 starter is nothing to sneeze at.

One game doesn't mean much, but she netted a hat trick in Mission's 4-0 win at Nationals earlier today. :)

Murphy continues to put the puck in the net, scoring all three of Mission's goals in a 3-1 win over the CT Polar Bears. Can she just accelerate her schoolwork and come in this fall? ;)

Mission advances to the semi with a 5-2 win over the East Coast Wizards. Murphy chips in a goal and an assist, while recruited D Josey Dunne picks up three assists.

Looks like the recruits on these teams are pretty spread out as to who they are committed to. No surprise that Wethington is the only future Gopher selected.

The above list is solid but shouldn't be seen as all inclusive. All the girls played high school hockey this past year except Isa Goettl and Ella Boerger, who both played 15u hockey. Ella Hause is a Forest Lake girl, but plays at Hill-Murray. Uma Corniea and Sedona Blair are goalies. Ava Lindsay is the sister of Gopher 2021 recruit Sadie Lindsay.

A couple not on the list to keep in mind are Holy Family forward Taylor Koeppl, who is generally seen as one of the top few in this class. Also Joy Dunne, the youngest of the St. Louis area Dunne family who turns out one D-1 hockey player after another including 2020 Gopher recruit Josey.

I'm sure I'm one of the younger people here so this isn't going to garner much sympathy, but a person born in 2005 committing to college is stressing me out.

In addition to Sarah and Amy Potomak it looks like a number of other very talented sister combinations going through the team over the next few years!

Madeline and Audrey Wethington
Grace and Emily Zumwinkle
Tella and Vivian Jungles
Sadie and Ava Lindsay

Has to be some kind of a record!
