Received this in an email a few minutes ago. Not unexpected, but still disappointing.

Dear ________,

I hope this note finds you and your loved ones safe and well. These past six months have been unprecedented and it’s hard to think the last time our women's hockey student-athletes were on the ice was back in March.
Although we have not competed since then, I want to thank you for your continued support . We miss seeing you at the rink and we look forward to the day when we are able to gather together again.

Today, the Hockey Commissioners Association announced that the start of the 2020-21 hockey season will be delayed across all Division I conferences. Read the full statement from the association here. We support the association and conference's decision as the health and safety of our student-athletes remains our top priority.

This season, if we are able to play games, will be extremely different than previous seasons. We will work with local authorities and the Minnesota Department of Health with regard to any possible fan attendance, but regardless of that decision, we need your support more than ever during this unique and challenging year.

Based on recommendations from local health officials and guidelines in place on the state and local levels, there will be a drastic reduction in the number of spectators permitted to attend Gopher sporting events. Current guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health specify that venues must reduce occupant capacity to no more than 250 (indoor venues) patrons. With this reduction, we anticipate few or no spectators at home women's hockey games. Our staff is committed to working closely with government officials to monitor guidelines and adjust policies as needed.

Due to these realities, Gopher Athletics is taking the following steps to ensure its ability to adjust to the changing circumstances around COVID-19.

*If fans are permitted to attend home hockey games, a limited number of tickets may be distributed on an individual, game-by-game basis.

*There will be no women's hockey season tickets. Your status as a season ticket holder remains unchanged, and your season ticket location will be retained for the 2021-22 season.

*There will be no season ticket upgrade or adjustment process for the 2020-21 women's hockey season. Seat upgrades and change requests will take place prior to the 2021-22 season.

*Gifts made after November 1, 2019 will continue to provide current year Gopher Score points through the 2021-22 athletics season.

As a season ticket holder that has renewed for the 2020-21 season, the following options are available:

1) Any amount of your season ticket order may be converted to a 100% charitable donation to the Golden Gopher Fund.

RECEIVE DOUBLE POINTS: Fans that donate to one of the two funds below will receive 20 Gopher Score points per $100 donated for current year giving (traditionally 10 points per $100 donated).

Golden Gopher Fund - Scholarship and program support to all Gopher student-athletes

Athletics Director’s Excellence Fund - Supports the most pressing needs of the department
DONATE HERE
By making a gift, your continued support will make a lasting impact on 675 Gopher student-athletes. Your investment will allow Gopher Athletics to provide student-athletes the necessary resources to achieve greatness.

Your charitable gift will also boost your Gopher Score priority ranking and, most importantly, propel the program forward as we build upon the decorated history of Gopher Women's Hockey. As with all challenges, we know that together we will come out of this stronger.

Visit the United Are We homepage to learn more about how you can support Gopher Athletics

2) 2020-21 season ticket orders may be applied to the 2021-22 women's hockey season. No action is needed to carry your credit forward to the 2021-22 season. Any amount credited from the 2020-21 season will automatically be applied to your 2021-22 season ticket purchase.

3) Season ticket holders may request a 100% refund of the paid amount for the 2020-21 season by reaching out to Gopher Fan Relations by calling 1-800-U-GOPHER or emailing fans@gopherfanrelations.com. Refund requests may take 4 to 6 weeks to process.

Thank you again for your support. We want to play hockey this season, but it must be deemed safe for our student-athletes to do so by medical experts and conference and campus leadership.

Go Gophers and United Are We!

Mark

COVID-19 TICKET POLICIES & INFORMATION

Though our department is working remotely, the Gopher Fan Relations team is still available!

During this time, please continue to call 1-800-U-GOPHER or email fans@gopherfanrelations.com. A dedicated Gopher Fan Relations representative will return your message during normal hours of operation, which is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

We understand this is an inconvenience for some of our fans and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Gopher recruits in the Elite League:

MSP Black: Elly Klepinger, Ava Lindsay
Tradition Black: Emily Zumwinkle, Vivian Jungels
Tradition Vegas: Ali Franco, Madison Kaiser, Rilee Winters
Tradition White: Peyton Hemp, Sadie Lindsay, Skylar Vetter

Maybe a little concerning not seeing Claire Enright on a roster. She had off season surgery and then played in the first weekend of OS Hockey's "Prospects and Futures" program in late July. She then skipped the final two weekends of "Prospects and Futures" and now not participating in Elite League makes me wonder if there was a set back. Hopefully I'm off base like normal.

Shattuck girl’s prep team ROSTER released today. Jade Iginla, daughter of Jerome, is a junior on the squad. Don’t know what kind of prospect she is, but thought it was interesting.

Issue with a torn labrum (hip) from what I've been told. Not 100% sure if that is accurate but I do trust the source of the information. Certainly can be complications from this surgical repair.

Another interesting newcomer to the Shattuck program. A player with her own IMDb page. She is a junior who came from the Jr. Ducks program.

STORY from the Shattuck site.

The Girls Elite League NIT tournament starts today and runs through the weekend at Fogarty Arena in Blaine and the TCO Sports Garden (that's the one across the street from Tousley Ford) in Vadnais Heights. Nice mix of teams from around the country (no Canadian teams this year). Unfortunately no Chicago Mission, so no chance to see :M: recruit Ella Huber. All the local recruits that play in the Elite League should be playing.

Not sure if they will be letting anyone in to watch. Can't post schedule or roster links as the Elite League site isn't secure.

That's one of the stricter rinks I've been to with Covid so I would bet against letting anyone in other than limited family members.

Question: With the NCAA's decree that players on last year's roster will be given an extra year of eligibility, and with incoming recruited freshmen adding to this year's expanded roster, how will Coach Frost best handle the upcoming season's swollen number of players? Does he give preference to last year's seniors, rewarding them for their past contributions to the program? Even though (possibly) this, recognizing the raw talent of the incoming class, might not give the program the best opportunity to compete for a league, and maybe a national championship (assuming everything was not shut down again next spring, who knows?). Or does he select this year's playing roster strictly on what he believes will give the team the best opportunity to effectively compete for this year's national championship, without regard to players' past contributions and proven leadership qualities (experience!) in the locker room?

And to what extent will redshirting play a role in all of this?

Last year's seniors did not get an extra year. Only the spring sports seniors did. Fall and winter did not. But everyone in fall or winter sports this year will. . So this is a better question for next season.

Gopherguy5 answered this very well. Next year will be interesting as far as possible redshirts as you mention but also, I would expect there will be more than normal transfer requests (especially for 5th year senoirs). Let the recruiting begin.

Not bad lists, although not all Minnesota born as is written above. Madison Brown is a recent move in from Bismarck. She was the leading scorer in North Dakota high school hockey last year for state champion Bismarck. Lindzi Avar moved in a year or so ago from the Portland, Oregon area. Suzi Higuchi has been in the area for quite some time now, but is originally from Japan.

Saw something on the interwebs that shows Emma Conner (Edina) has committed to Minnesota for 2022. I thought she was a 2021 graduate and had previously been committed to Penn State. Maybe someone more in the know can verify...

Fun fact: alleged new women's recruit Emma Conner and men's recruit Matthew Knies were teammates in the Silver Sticks tournament ten years ago.

http://stclairshores.stats.pointstreak.com/players-boxscore.html?gameid=1415777

For those unfamiliar with Ms. Conner's background, she is from Gilbert, Arizona. She will be a senior at Edina after a strong junior year there last season. Prior to her time at Edina she spent three years at Selects Academy, a Shattuck style program in Rochester, New York.

That's good enough for me. I'll list her for now as a 2021 recruit, although the potential backlog of forwards due to the granting of an extra year due to covid could make 2022 more attractive to both parties.

F Peyton Hemp (Andover)
F Ella Huber (Chicago Mission U19) from Northfield, Illinois
F Sadie Lindsay (Breck)

I saw that. If you scroll up a bit you'll see a tweet from the "In the Zone" site saying they are confirming it. I'm taking a wait and see approach.

Rosters are up on the "OS Hockey" site for the fall "bridge" league leading into the shortened high school season. 2022 Gopher recruit Maddie Kaiser, who played at Andover previously, is on the Holy Family roster seemingly confirming the rumored transfer. The rosters aren't necessarily binding as the league isn't sponsored by the High School League and there are a few oddities. Another 2022 Gopher commit, Rilee Winters is listed on rosters for both Blake (where she played last year) and Chisago Lakes.

Thanks for this, Iceburg. Any clue as to when the Gophers and the rest of the WCHA will release their schedules?

Who's left, just Hemp?
Also Sadie Lindsay.

I’ve been hoping the delay in an official announcement might be because of a surprise late addition. I’m going off some flimsy evidence though so it’s probably a long shot.

Any scuttlebutt about the team? Now just six days until the season resumes, against UMD no less. Hope everyone (including Amy P.) is healthy and ready to go!

A poster on the high school board is saying that Claire Enright is transferring from Farmington to Lakeville South. That one seems a little odd to me, but we'll see what happens.

A few things as high school hockey approaches.
  • Don’t see Madison Kaiser on the Holy Family roster. Rumor out there that she will have to play J.V. Hockey
  • Not seeing Riley Winters on Blake’s roster. Not tracking her down anywhere, although there are rosters that are not out yet.
  • There has been a rumor floating around that Vivian Jungels is accelerating and will come in next year. I would think that her not signing a Letter of Intent (to my knowledge) in November and the potential backlog of players due to added eligibility due to COVID makes this unlikely.
  • The Claire Enright to Lakeville South talk is confirmed.

Pretty strange list, Conner and Jungels are probably better than anyone on the list but you can't really make the whole team Edina and Andover.

“Yet” is obviously the key word. I kind of figured Winters and Kaiser would play at some point this season but I don’t know all the ins and outs of the transfer rules.

Which of these players should we be most excited about?

Also, any idea how this class compares to Wisconsin? Seems like they've had better on ice results the last 3-4 years since our 2016 title.

I don't know much about Huber but she's made the U18 teams so she must be a good player. Conner and Hemp are the best of the MNHS players. Vetter is also currently starting in goal for the Lakeville North boys varsity team, which is really impressive for a program like that.

The tweet was about Vetter being the first female since Maddie Rooney in 2015 to get a shutout in Minnesota boy’s hockey. On my IPad if I touch where it says “this tweet is unavailable” the tweet still pops up.

There seemed to be some hints out there that the staff was maybe interested in a European player.

As well as Jungel's speed and offensive capabilities from the defense position...Don't have enough of that on the current Gopher roster.

”Playing high school boys hockey, future Gophers goalie Skylar Vetter pursues golden goals”
Jess Myers wrote: “She and her teammates are so used to the process that it’s just what they do. It’s really not abnormal for anybody. This group of kids has been doing this every game since they were little,” said Panthers coach Jake Taylor, who played defense for the Gophers in 2003-04 before turning pro. “She never asks for anything special. She just takes charge and does it. Obviously, we would accommodate for that if needed, but she’s just a true professional.”
I had forgotten that Jake was the coach at North.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY: NO. 3 OHIO STATE GEARS UP TO FACE NO. 2 MINNESOTA

A couple of interesting stats:
"Since the 2017-18 season, a year after Ohio State head coach Nadine Muzerall joined the coaching staff, the Buckeyes have won eight out of the 16 games against the Gophers. This weekend will mark their 100th head-to-head matchup... "The Buckeyes are a perfect 25-for-25 on the power-play kill."

So, I see the bat signal has called for me on another site (that I haven’t posted on for some time) regarding Mercury Bischoff, who is leading the state in scoring as an 8th grader for Grand Rapids/Greenway. Doing some research it doesn’t seem that Mercury is Grant Bischoff’s daughter. There is a sophomore defenseman named Jazzy on the roster who is Grant’s daughter. I would think that guessing Mercury is a niece is a fairly safe guess, but I don’t know anything about Grant’s siblings.

Was perusing through some YHH discussions online and Mercury Bischoff was mentioned. Evidently she has a couple of brothers (Hunter Bischoff is listed on the roster) who either are playing for or could be playing for the Grand Rapids boys team. So it does seem that what Iceburg mentioned as Mercury being a niece to Grant is a likely scenario.

Ok...A little more digging comes up with possibly the other brother. Lucky Bischoff, who I believe is playing Bantams?

So Skylar Vetter, who's playing and starting every game for the Lakeville North boys team, tied the #3 team in the state Lakeville South 2-2, with a 31 save game. Pretty impressive.
