Everyone who comes on this board loves Gophers Hockey and only wants what best for the program. Full arenas generate excitement for the players and fans. This isn't rocket science. Check the other Minnesota teams Mankato, St Cloud, and Duluth (and soon St Thomas) ticket prices to get a general idea what ticket prices should be? A couple of minor things I left out in an earlier post is "what will possibly wearing masks inside Mariucci have on ticket sales?" "Is it more dangerous around campus now that the anti-cop crowd has more power" All these minor things could hurt attendance also.

https://twin-cities.umn.edu/news-events ... ods-around

-The University hiring of three additional UMPD officers, a Hennepin County social worker and a community liaison in recent weeks;

-Providing overtime UMPD patrols to the Dinkytown/Marcy Holmes neighborhood and coordinating with the City of Minneapolis to provide increased patrols in the same area;

-Partnership with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office to provide additional visible patrols on and near campus;

-Working with the city, power utilities, public works, Dinkytown leaders and University departments to develop a cohesive plan for improved lighting in the neighborhood, as well as litter and graffiti removal;

-Beginning a community ambassadors program to engage Dinkytown businesses and neighbors in ongoing conversations and partnership;

-Making the RAVE Escort app available to all students, faculty and staff to provide users a virtual walking buddy and a direct connection to the campus 911 center as they walk across campus.

-Installing four blue light safety kiosks adjacent to Dinkytown that provide 24/7 video surveillance, a one-stop connection to 911 dispatchers and a reassuring visible presence. Additional kiosks are planned in the coming months.
Thank you for proving my point. The University would not spend all this additional money on Security if crime was not a problem on campus. I've never personally worried about safety after games, but like I said earlier its minor consideration for some.

Let's keep it to hockey talk.
Discussion about the situation outside the arena is a slippery slope and won't end well.

IIRC, in the past, you had to present your ticket stub to claim the free Culver's. With e-tickets there's no more ticket stubs, so I wonder how this is going to work...

Does Culver’s have an app? McDonalds had a promotion a few years back where any Gophers victory in any sport resulted in a free breakfast sandwich. You just needed the app and they would scan it. I’m guessing this might be the same.

For an old timer ( living one day at a time ), is it too soon to be worried about not yet having a TV Schedule for the "preseason" games . . . ?

Go Gophers!
Supposed to come out today. At least the BTN part.

Also not political but along the lines of safety - have we heard yet if there is a formal statement on what will be required inside the arena? I’m assuming they will be enforcing masks as it is technically “indoors” and they are required elsewhere on campus. It’s just over a week away so if they are requiring other measures people need time to implement…
I have not received anything from the U but also have not gone looking for the info either so just curious what we can expect.

Masks will be required indoors, but based on my experience at the football games it may not be very well enforced. Which can be uncomfortable.

I would hope they would enforce it more when it is required in the actual bowl than just in the bathrooms/store/etc. It seems like so far people have been good about wearing them in the Pav for volleyball, but admittedly volleyball and hockey crowds are a bit different.

I know last year with only a handful of people in Mariucci they weren’t enforcing it, so good luck with thousands of folks.

No TV schedule from the BigTen today. They said they would have a “TV Overview” today and people thought that would be the schedule. Guess not.

This is what we got.

Per Garrett Raboin on beyond the pod Gopher hockey TV numbers were the highest they’ve ever been last year (obviously). Bally and BTN will want to get on it I’m not worried it might just go down to the wire.

Plus I’ll be at the first 4 games so there’s nothing but time for me😁

Living out of town and not having Bally's sports, last year I was able to watch the games on fox college sports, but that disappeared when Bally's took over for FSN. I was thinking I might have to subscribe to BTN+ this year to get the games. Does anyone know if they carried the FSN/Bally's games in the past?

I was able to watch every game last year except the games from ND on either BTN+ or regular BTN. I don't remember when Fox changed to Bally's, but it did not have any affect on being able to watch. Hopefully it will be the same this year.

I think it's just one game that he's referencing and it's since the B10 was formed. That game was the Ohio State/Minnesota that drew 165k viewers and a 0.6 rating -- which was the largest audience for a nationally rated regular season college hockey game since 2014. Their game with Michigan in B10 Semi drew a 0.4 rating and 110k viewers, the championship game drew a 0.3 rating and 137k viewers.

Trip down memory lane for ratings info that I've kept.

Frozen Four since 2009 Most Viewers
2014 Union-Minnesota 717k (I think the local rating for this game was 10.6 which equated to 183k of the viewers)
2009 BU-Miami 656k
2018 UMD-Notre Dame 653k
2015 Providence-BU 635k
2011 UMD-Michigan 624k

Some notes on Gopher Hockey on TV pre-B10 and after 1997 -- I think these are local ratings, so about 17k viewers per point.
Highest rated game was a 3.5 rating vs SCSU in November 2001
Second highest rated game was 3.4 vs Minn State in October 2005
Gophers-SCSU drew a 2.2 in November 2000
Average rating for Gopher Hockey in 2000-01 was 1.2 for 35 FSN games.

Also Minnesota-Notre Dame was on NBCSN in November 2013 and drew 182k viewers

Huh, I thought "Bally" was just a naming rights thing like "Huntington Bank Stadium" and that Sinclair still owns/operates the channels. I didn't realize there were operating changes too.

FYI, the change happened on March 31 to coincide with the start of the 2021 MLB season. Since I don't watch much sports outside of Gopher Hockey, I didn't notice until a couple of weeks later and was caught off guard when a restaurant I was eating at had BSN on their biggest TV.

Interesting stat...
899,000 households and a total of 2.3 million viewers in 2002 for Maine vs Minnesota

Edit:
From USCHO
The 2002 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four set television viewership records for households and estimated viewers.

The April 6 championship game at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, a 4-3 overtime victory by Minnesota over Maine, was watched by 899,000 households and approximately 2.3 million viewers on ESPN. The previous bests were set in 1998, when 731,000 households and nearly 1.9 million viewers watched Michigan defeate Boston College, 3-2, in overtime at the Fleet Center in Boston.

The championship game also tied a record with a 1.0 cable rating, which was also reached in the Michigan versus Boston College game in 1998, and the 1989 final when Harvard defeated Minnesota, 4-3, in overtime.

In addition, the 2002 championship game will air as an “Instant Classic” April 13, on ESPN Classic from 7-9 p.m. Eastern time.

The 2002 Frozen Four also set viewership records for the combined three games. The two April 4 semifinal games on ESPN2 were watched by 370,000 households and 954,600 viewers, giving the Frozen Four a three-game total of 1,269,000 households and approximately 3,274,020 viewers.

The previous records for the three-game television viewer totals were set in 1998, when 1,148,000 households and 2,961,840 people watched the Frozen Four.

Even less now that I just adjusted it to 2:30 from 7:00... :biggrin2:

Meyers, Walker, Lacombe and LaFontaine named to preseason 1st team.
Faber and Johnson on 2nd team
Koster got honorable mention

Glad they didn’t succumb to the pressure of putting Michigan first. Bucci will be shocked.

But yeah preseason polls don’t mean jack, the team knows that.

Don’t let the worst loss in gopher football history distract you from the fact that the real season is less than a week away

Less than a week to go and USCHO hasn't updated our roster.

Interesting note from the hockey team at the Gopher Football game. Sam Rossini was photographed with the team on the field. He is not on the roster, but he may be someone they can add if they lose a defenseman at some point or add as a practice player ( if he is still going to school). He is in the transfer portal, but I don't think he has signed with anyone.

or he just happened to be at the game and they invited him to join the team photo :confused2:

Wasn’t Cullen Munson in the photo too? Guessing they were allowed to join the pic if they were honoring for last year’s accolades. (At least I assume that’s what they were doing, I wasn’t at the game).

You’ll notice he and Rossini were not wearing the same gear the rest of the team had on.

Good catch on the attire. You are probably right, but I love to create some rumors :D

I was looking at my guide last night and still nothing doing for Bally Sports North this weekend. So who knows? Hopefully we know something by the time we do the podcast this week.

It shows up on the BTN+ as being able to watch it there. Let's hope that it means it is going to be on Bally.

Would anyone know if transferring a ticket on the U website is more reliably done by including the recipient's email or phone number?

I'm assuming a confirmation will be sent to them that individual, but I've never done this before so I'm in uncharted waters.

either one. They get notification as do you when the transfer request is sent, and when it is accepted.

With E tickets now will there be an option to purchase tickets just before the game at the box office? Also I wonder how this will affect scalpers?

As someone who can barely use a computer and my phone, I HATE the new e ticket thing. I apologize in advance to the poor people who will be behind me as I try to bring up each ticket on my phone.

I know you probably don't want to do this but I think you can always stop at the ticket counter at the game to have them print a ticket to get in.

I liked the electronic tickets. Loaded them in my Google Wallet and showed them quickly. I totally understand how other would struggle though.

This was possible last year? I have YTTV and was not able to get fox sports (or Bally after the change). I know it wasn’t in the sports pack add-on. From every source I’ve found online, AT&T or whatever they’re branding it as now, is the only streaming option with Bally Sports North.

Thanks to you, I think I figured it out. It was on the google pay app that I downloaded, but I didn't know where on the app. After you said google wallet, I went exploring and found it. It seems simple enough now that I understand how it works. It takes a bit of learning for this old guy. ( I don't like change :D )

After struggling a bit I called the Gopher Ticket Office and they were helpful. One thing I don't get is why you have to load each game separately. For season ticket holders why not all home tickets with a push of a button? Maybe next year...

Even though I am told I cannot use Google Pay because my account is technically registered in the Philippines, the link they sent me for the tickets still allowed me to DL both tickets and easily access them one, then the other, for the scan codes. Not bad.

But not being able to save tickets in the show box...
Currently under construction.

I imagine that there will be a bit of a learning curve for awhile. Even though I've already had a smooth experience with the Athletic Department garage sale earlier this year, I was caught off guard today by a notification to download the separate GPay and went on a wild goose chase trying to figure out where the heck my loyalty card was in that other app, so there'll probably be silly things like this for awhile.

I know preseason polls are meaningless, but it is nice to be #1
1. Minnesota
Under Bob Motzko, the Gophers have been slowly gaining back their stability and power. A big boost will be the return of Jack LaFontaine, who opted to stay for his graduate year. Minnesota has always had the talent, but in recent years that talent has struggled to play as a consistent unit. Last year, it seemed to come together, but Minnesota fell one game short of the Frozen Four. The Gophers are entering their fourth season, and just the second full season, under Motzko. That, coupled with the returning players, makes the Gophers a threat. Motzko will be navigating this season after the tragic loss of his son in a car accident this summer.

If this were a Disney movie, we'd be.the Mighty Ducks, you would be the hawks (cake eaters, of course), we'd meet in the championship and would prevail using the Flying V with Dryden scoring the winning goal.

Wonder if that will be tBob's final contract before he retires. He will be 66 at the end of the extension, and I get the sense from the comments he has made in the past that he doesn't want to coach forever. I am very happy for him and this news.

Great interview with Grant Cruikshank. Sounds like a leader and a great teammate. One quote that stands out-- " we play for the guys who played before us"
