Agreed, but there’s a clear talent differential here. I think we’ll need to be a little sharper tomorrow against the other maverick. But I’d love to see us steamroll them too. Sorry @Viking. Kato got their win. Now they can wait awhile to get past one.

Agreed, re: Talent but the Gophers could have come out flat and thankfully that didn’t happen so I’ll take it. :)

Laffa would like the 1st goal back, but I thought on the 2nd the puck found the only precise tight space available to sneak through. Pat looked like he knew exactly where Ward was going to go with it and got a bit unlucky.

I don't know about the PI, but it's at 7PM here in MN

I don't know about the PI, but it's at 7PM here in MN
8 a.m. here then which is not bad at all.

I don't mind that they didn't score on that PP, but given they haven't scored a PP in a long time it would have been nice to see them actually try to work it out and hone it a bit more. I didn't care for them passively passing it around like that.

That said very happy for the win and let's get after MSU!!!

There were a couple of times, early, where the red cows set up in the offensive zone and I was a little worried about their forecheck. But the skill and puck-moving of the Gopher defense really, in my opinion, tilted the ice.

Nice team win.

Despite those wins ss.com has little good to day about UNO and is sure Denver would have beat the Gophers.

MSUM is a big squad and veteran - Gophers need to stick to their game and force MSUM to chase them. 5x5 is going to decide this one.

I'm surprised ss.com agrees the Gophers deserve to be in the tournament. After all according to them the Nacho conference is soooooo good they should get seven bids and no Big Ten team deserves to be in including revoking the auto bid.

Hope Sorenson is okay. He took a hit from behind with about 5 mins left and was pinned against the boards, then just kinda keeled over and I assume limped off for a change.

Edit: saw that he did play another shift

I have a friend who's a UNO fan, and we've been chatting all night. He said that UNO was definitely off their game, and that it was clear that the Gophers weren't, and were taking advantage of all the openings.

He basically said that after today, he's got Minnesota vs the winner in Fargo playing for the championship.

The weird thing is I didn't think the Gophers were fully on their game. We've seen them play much better this season. Omaha did not play well at all.

I heard some say that Omaha played well, but MN just played better. Omaha was just outmatched, plain and simple.

Plenty of analysts the last couple weeks have said that the Gophers are just so solid and well-built as a team that you simply can't have an off-game against them. Even if Minnesota has a bit of an off game, they're good enough that they'll still beat you unless you bring your A game.

Can you all believe that this is the Gophers' first NCAA win since the 0.6 seconds game?!

That shocked me when I looked it up.

Re watched the game for the McManus injury. It happened at the 14:04 mark of the 2nd. Got tangled up with an Omaha player down in the Gophers zone along the boards and appears to land on his shoulder/arm/elbow. He was late to skate off and Nevers took his spot the rest of the game.

With the way Nevers played last night he is more the capable of taking on that role

I would assume they just keep playing the hot hand in Nevers in his spot like last night. Not sure who they put in his spot on the PP. Maybe finally move Ranta up to the 1st unit or add a 2nd defenseman to the PP.

I’m excited to watch a stress free Gophers vs Mavs game tonight. For the record, I’m rooting for a Bulldog vs Gopher clash in the title game!
Could be 3 Minnesota teams in the final 4, right? Anything like that happen before? I'm thinking no.

If Saint Cloud wins today, it will be three.

So who jumps into the lineup to take McManus's spot?
I would assume they just keep playing the hot hand in Nevers in his spot like last night. Not sure who they put in his spot on the PP. Maybe finally move Ranta up to the 1st unit or add a 2nd defenseman to the PP.
And who gets brought in as the extra player then?
My guess they will dress an extra d, most likely Stucker.

nope. and I think in quick review, there's actually never been even 2 Minnesota teams in the last 4 either as hard as that is to believe.

Sorenson was the extra skater last night so he slides into the 4th line and yeah Stucker probably is the extra skater.

Hmmm that surprised me at first but given Mankato, St. Cloud, And Bemidji have only 2 Frozen four appearances between them it is believable. Basically comes down to fact that the Gophers & Duluth have never been in it together.

Maybe he saw Faber gut it out a couple of weeks ago and he is doing the same. He does wear a letter, so as a leader he is stepping up to play ( I hope ). Or he saw how good Nevers played and he didn't want to lose his spot

Any official word on that in case the Albany game goes to 300 overtimes?

If Wisconsin-Madison is the state's most prestigious university and the state itself is known as The Dairy State, does that mean UW is Bovine University?

The NCAA has to come up with better sites for the preliminary round. These 2 rinks out east are total pieces of sh__. The ice is slush. People are falling down, the puck is taking weird bounces. The nets won't stay in position in Albany.
They are in such out of the way places it's difficult for fans to attend games. ( When fans are allowed ) Hockey deserves a lot better than this from the NCAA.

I was just thinking that with the injury and the non-stop issue with Knight's net might cause enough delay. They started the BC/St Cloud over there.

It will probably be fine.

For this to happen, the NCAA would have to give a crap about hockey. They do not so this stuff keeps happening. They’re all worried about lining their pockets with the bouncy ball tournament.

Maybe places like Minnesota that have top notch facilities like the X should bid more often. :mis:

With the score now probably, though because of the stoppages, the 2nd intermission just started and it's only 40 minutes before the faceoff of our game, so even with just regulation, their game's going to run long past that.

ESPN runs everything back to back with no room at all for overages. As soon as the game extends, it's like a shell game trying to find your team.

This time of year I think a lot of guys are playing dinged up. But if they think they can play, they certainly aren’t going sit out a potential last game of a season/college career. Hoping the guys have enough to gut it out two more weeks!

Curious if we get the same officials that seemed to be from Hockey East last night or some other crew. The afternoon game was worked by B1G officials, so I'm guessing they won't be used.

If Spence Lee can win a National Championship, with 2 torn ACLs, it shows what the mind can do to overcome injures.

But there is bowling on ESPN U. What a shame to be interrupted for hockey. I’m sure there will be an investigation.
