I'm hoping Notre Dame's style makes it tough for Wisco.

I could see their being a dark horse. Even though they haven't played well in their home rink, if they get into the road team mindset on Monday and Tuesday, the fact that the games are at Compton would be irrelevant.

If Wisconsin-Madison is the state's most prestigious university and the state itself is known as The Dairy State, does that mean UW is Bovine University?

We avoid PSU and ND who have notoriously ended our seasons in recent years. I like our chances against MSU and a MI or OSU team who had a (hopefully) harder quarter-final. Not the worst outcome in the world. Win a couple to keep you #1 seed in the NCAAs.

Wisconsin has had a horseshoe lodged (you know where) the last two weeks. They got extremely lucky to tie Notre Dame with 23 seconds left. Then the Gophers lost two probable wins against Penn St because of Covid. Add the fact, the Big Ten uses a goofy winning percentage instead of a basic winning percentage which costs the Gophers a bye next weekend. You could also make the argument they could have lost to last place Michigan St today. Oh well, the Gophers still have a chance at a possible #1 seed if they can win the Big Ten tourney. Wisconsin is a good team, but their basically a two line team (which Granato puts on the ice every chance he gets)

Be careful what you wish for. If the Gophers are going to make any post-season noise they're going to have to go through good teams to get there. Bring 'em on.

Regardless of how the teams finished, B1G playoff games normally do not disappoint. Should be intense. Really looking forward to it.

I can be a pretty cynical person about things in life, but even that stuff makes me want to slit my wrists...
"Hard work will beat talent, if talent doesn't work hard"
Doug Woog - 1990

This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.

Overhead on SiouxSports.com - Why does every thread always turn into a "Gopher" thread? Is there a secret infatuation with them?

Just curious if you were at any of the Big Ten Tournament games when they were held at Xcel, Detroit, or at campus sites?.

Yup, basically all the Gopher games at the X and Mariucci. Didn't go to hell hole Detroit cuz I knew it would be a crap empty atmosphere.

I took a nap at the X back in 2016 and did my taxes at Mariucci a couple of years ago.

No, not really, but both of those were more than just passing thoughts I had at the time.

We have two season tickets for Hockey. I could for any game I wanted purchase the two seats next to us the entire season in 2019-20. And, we frequently did. We have two seats but there are 3 of us and my dad likes going to the games so for 6+ games we did buy at least the one seat next to us as a single game.

It was nice and unfortunate all at the same time.

Joking aside, we've "shown up" a period late to games in past seasons. Can't do that now.

Seems like towards the end of tDon's tenure we had a tendency to play down to our opponents level. That has not been a problem this year.

Hopefully I don't jinx 'em now.

Not only the guys ( meaning team members ) but also the conditioning folks - it's a 2:00 PM ( CST ) game which throws off the schedule for any meal previous to the game.

Previous to recognizing the change to DST, I was ruing the fact of missing the 12:00 PM ( adjusted to CST) and 10:00 AM ( adjusted to CST ) games with Penn State. We've not played a 2:00 PM game this year but are 10 and 1 overall in "afternoon" games ( 3:00 PM [ CST ] 2 - 0; 4:00 PM [ CST ] 4 - 1; 4:30 PM [ adjusted to CST ] 1 - 0; and 5:00 PM [ some adjusted to CST ] 3 - 0 ) outside of what might be considered "evening" game times ( 5:30 - 7:30 PM ) . . . .

And, the recent KRACH values ( from CHN as of tonight at 10:45 PM CST [ including RRWP, Record, WP, and WR ] ) for the conference members, show the Gophers leading in all values excepting SOS ( where they place last in the conference at 29 / 60 )

Ben Holden and Paul Caponigri will have the call for the quarterfinals round, while Dan Kelly and Fred Pletsch will take over for the semifinals and championship game. Michelle McMahon will serve as the on-site reporter and Rick Pizzo will anchor studio coverage, joined by Caponigri during semifinal and championship game coverage

So, people want ND to lose? Don't we prefer ND to win, since they have a better chance to lock down uw, and with two wins they maybe have a slight chance to become the 4th Big Ten team in the tournament?

i'd rather see ND win, but it's not looking good. ND tourney chances on life support. If they lose it's a 3 bid league unless there's an autobid, which should only have PSU alive after tonight.

Normally I’d agree, but I want another shot against Bucky. A banner being on the line would be just add to it. Been a long time since we’ve faced them in a conf tournament championship, probably the Bradley Center game in Milwaukee mid-90s.

Even further back...

The 1990 WCHA Final Four Championship game at the St. Paul Civic Center was the last time they met for a title. A 7-1 BADger win. So it's been 31 years.

ND looked they were going to run PSU out of the rink...then coughed up 4 straight goals. Hockey such a huge momentum sport. The goal PSU got before the 1st break had them believing it was possible.

MSU has to win to stay alive. Don always said it's hard to end someone's season. So I don't expect today to be easy.

This first game is an example. Desperation to keep your season from ending can be a huge motivator. I don’t expect any game in this tournament to be easy.

That being said, I’m still hoping for a green and white beat down today. Especially since the universe smiled on me and my last appointment canceled tomorrow night so I have a chance to get home in time for the game!

Game isn't appearing for me on the Fox Sports website (which is where BTN games stream, rather than Fox Sports Go). Anyone else?

Not an easy save for LaFontaine in terms of the movement required (and ideally that stick gets tied up) but he was way out of position.

ND looked they were going to run PSU out of the rink...then coughed up 4 straight goals. Hockey such a huge momentum sport. The goal PSU got before the 1st break had them believing it was possible.
I jinxed ND just before the waived off goal. Do I need to reverse it?!
Related jinxes/etc: I think you need to powder your nose right about now. Just sayin'.

The talent difference on the ice is night and day but this is what makes playoff hockey fun. Need to kill this off and get one here in the second

If you can't beat MSU a week after not seizing the chance at the regular season banner, get ready for another one and done. We've seen that story before what happens when you start hot then back into the tournament.

You have to beat these scrubs.

Need our top pairing to stop taking penalties, that’s a great equalizer when there’s clearly a talent gap.

Also I feel like between Ranta, Johnson, Faber, Walker, etc. this team has the talent to just skate past their trap and set up the offense. If they’re going to dump it constantly though they need to be more efficient on the forecheck, doesn’t seem like they’re forcing the MSU D into bad decisions or turnovers so far.

You could see the MSU PP goal coming after Ben and Cappy lamented on how bad their PP was. Just regroup and keep firing pucks at the net. Kill this one off and chip away.

Amazing what happens when you actually get the puck on net. 2 really good chances and the behind the net chance wasn’t bad either.

Better hope Faber isn’t hurt, the strength of this team is clearly the blue line.

Also I agree with what the play by play guy said, team is forcing some bad passes in the O zone and do better when they’re patient.

I just have one of those feelings that this is a playoff game where a goalie is going to steal the game. Certainly hope I'm wrong, but it's looking like that with 20 to go.

Seems like the puck is in the O zone 80% of the time but nothing to show for it.

I guess we’ll know more after the game but this might be another year where MSU takes out one of our top Dmen at the end of the season.

in some respects it looks like Cole watched a lot of tape from the first Notre Dame series. Whatever it is, they are being effective blocking passing lanes and shots.
