Gophers vs Buckeyes Nov 23 & 24

Post by frozen4champs » Sat Nov 21 5:01 pm

Monday and Tuesday night hockey. ( I blame the Big 10 ) :D
Both games @7:30pm on BTN and 1130am

Gophers swept them at home last year, 6-3 and 4-1

Buckeyes lost their top 2 leading scorers but have SR goalie Nappier, who was the 2019 Big 10 goalie of the year, and honorable mention last year.
They were picked for 3rd(tied) in the preseason coaches poll.

One thing worth noting is that this will be OSU's season opener with the way the schedules have been staggered so far, so we'll have their rust as an advantage. On the flip side, we'll only have had 2 days of practice and a lot of unknowns about how this OSU team will play, but the balance should be in our favor.

Please excuse these "off topic" questions ( I couldn't find an appropriate "Forum" )

Did the proposed GPL Podcast for last evening happen?

Also, I know with the condensed schedule, it's more hectic to update Next Game schedules, but as of this AM, GPL is still hyping Penn State . . . ?

Finally, I'm thinking of adding links to the B1G's "What's on TV?," "Gamefinder," and "Find Your Channel" WWW pages to the Countdown page. Would GPL folks find those links of value?

Go Gophers!

We were live on YouTube last night. Even had it up on the main portal page. Should be live on your favorite podcasting app right now. Or the link above.

You may want to refresh your browser more often. Chris Eckes had a recap of both PSU games 2 days ago and Vegoe just posted an article on Sammy Walker this morning.

Yeah... I have a hard enough time keeping track of the Gopher games, there is zero chance I am going to create game finding for other B1G teams.

The wildcard is that their goalie, Nappier is really good. Their defense is young, so Nappier will need to stand on his head.

impressive how after OSU hit the pipe early on the Gophers really shut them down in the D zone. 1 shot on goal. Keep it up the rest of the game!

It may be this, but the compete level from the Gophers is just....different. I didn’t watch any games this weekend, but we are almost 5 minutes into the 2nd and OSU has 1 shot. That’s dominating and even mismatched teams struggle to do that.

One would expect a better effort by Ohio State in tomorrow's rematch. Other than most of the first half of tonight's second period they were completely dominated by the team wearing the gold uniforms. The Buckeyes looked like they hadn't practiced much going into what was their first game of the season. As was the case in the series with Penn State they should show improvement tomorrow, but it won't be enough to avoid being swept by the superior team.

I think the Gophers will adjust as needed. That is the real key. We CAN go all out, but we also need to temper that for the long haul. I do believe we have the coaching and talent to such a thing.

Boy, I struggle with the argument/excuse that these 18-23 year old kids can run out of gas playing a game. There is always a bit more in the tank as long as the collective bunch knows what the end result can/will be if everyone leaves it on the ice. Sure, teams have bad days and this is 4 games in 6 days or whatever it ends up being but these kids have been skating non-stop for years and I just struggle with that reasoning. Not saying it isn't correct, it is just how I feel.

Just finished watching on delay. Love the energy, and they are just so much better at being aware of where one another are and making their passes and creating plays on the fly. So exciting to have such a great start and hoping they continue to build. Sounds like the big matchup so far will be against the ugly helmets in a couple weeks.

Koster's goal taken away and given to Brodzinski.
No surprise here. It definitely looked like Koster's shot was deflected by Brodzinski's stick en route. At least he got his first point.

Did the proposed GPL Podcast for last evening happen?
We were live on YouTube last night. Even had it up on the main portal page. Should be live on your favorite podcasting app right now. Or the link above.
Love the video blog - maybe could use it as a selling point to either / or both Hammy and Cardinal and have him / them rejoin the crew. Next up, video advertisrements . . . .

And, the browser refresh is always a good idea ( seems like it should be built in, but, perhaps, I had kept the page open all week . . . it's GPL, after all . . . ).

The Faber kid is as advertised.

He's smooth as graphite and quickly erases any scoring chance by an opponent. I think he gets penciled in every night. :)

Probably have to go back to Erik Johnson in terms of this level of play at both ends of the rink from a freshman d-man.

Can’t say I’m itching to see Stucker back in the lineup, particularly given the quality of blue line play so far. I would be shocked if Stucker is anything other than the seventh option this year.

Yeah he would be the 7th D that would mainly be used on the power play....but if Koster/Faber keep developing then he really isn't needed there either.

Gophers could be losing up to three D men for the WJC this year with Johnson, LaCombe, and Faber all having a decent chance of making the team. That's when they'll really need Stucker, Denman, Fish, and Rossini.

LaFontaine with the start again. I am a bit surprised Moe did not get at least a start these first 4 games.

Maybe it looked closer than it was from the OSU bench, but that seemed like a complete waste of a challenge.

Remember going to North Star games when the two line pass was still a thing. Great idea getting rid of it!

I'm more concerned with the concentrated games in short time frames, how that stamina will be late in the season....

Amazing how much better this team looks when they have a group of Dmen that can walk and chew gum at the same time. I remember the team struggling to reach the 20 shot total that last year of Lucia as teams just put all their focus on the forwards knowing full well they could just leave the blue line open.
