Hoping the Gophers sweep Penn State to start out. Penn State has alot of freshman on the roster 7 or 8.this year.
Starting off the season with a home sweep of Penn St would feel oh so sweet.

I'm subscribed to the gopher schedule but the games are not showing up on my Google calendar.. Anyone else having a problem?
Just give it some time.... I have always noticed a delay on the Google Calendar version.
This is all very strange...

I see that some of the games are showing up on the Google Calendar, but not all. For instance it has game #1 on the 13th... This was a placeholder that I deleted when the new schedule came out. But MOST of those games are on the calendar. Only the first Penn State game is missing. So goofy. It's all coming from the same file. So who knows.

According to the TV schedule on my Comcast our opener Vs Penn State is a 7:30pm game on big ten network following ASU and Sparty. The Friday game says it’s on BTN at, get ready for it, 3pm, leading into Gopher football Vs Purdue also on BTN that night.

Only needing to work four days before a Thursday game, then being able to tune in during work and watch a game on Friday at 3 and have the whole weekend free after 530 doesn't sound bad at all.

Are they really playing vs Michigan at Munn or is that a typo in the schedule?

I figured, but wasn’t sure if they were doing some weird bubble thing since we stay out there for both series.

Here is the deal with this...

LaPanta is a full time employee of FSN. So he gets paid no matter what. Someone like Charlie Beattie is more of an independent contractor. So with LaPanta not busy with the Wild right now, it only makes sense financially for them to use LaPanta on the call. As for Clymer, I am guessing it is a similar thing. He works more than just Gopher hockey. So it makes sense.

I don't mind LaPanta. Really like him on the podcasts with Russo. He's got some good stories.

Bet he's excited to call a hockey game again after such a long layoff.

Agree. I would love to follow LaPanta and Russo around for a day. Even though they are best of friends, LaPanta loves to push Russo's buttons. I'm just overjoyed that we have hockey and hockey on TV.

I don't like LaPanta, but I understand that we have to be patient this season. We tend to think of TV networks having limitless resources based on how much they throw at big events, but there was a GPLer who worked at FSN awhile back who said that North barely makes ends meet. If BTN has no money to use their overflow channels for football, I know I'm just going to have to suck it up and listen to FSN's in-house talent for hockey.

Is there any inkling as to what might happen after the Michigan series? As in, will there be more hockey? 'Cause this is kind of fun so far.

tBob said he expects the 2nd half of the schedule to be released soon. Not sure when it will start, but my guess around Jan 1st.

Are you hoping that because that’s the best chance to maybe have some sort of fans in the arena?

It's a long shot but yes. Also, that weekend could be for the title. Looks like the B1G is pretty wide open at the moment but I think it comes down to UW, UM and UMN.

Maybe I missed this in a thread somewhere else but why is everyone in the B1G playing ASU when all the games this season are supposedly in conference games? Are they trying to lure ASU into the B1G conference?

Since there are only 7 B1G teams, they thought adding ASU as a temporary 8th team would even out the schedule. It’s a win win for both sides. ASU gets a compete schedule in a year when no one is playing non conference games and the B1G gets a complete schedule with a chance to see how ASU does as a member.

The other thing is that ASU is perfectly happy to follow the same COVID protocols as the B1G, and (as I recall) prefer that kind of setup, so, if they weren't playing an all B1G schedule, they'd get at best, a partial season in.

It also gives all B1G members 4 additional home games (not that it matters that much without a crowd) since ASU's permanent home arena hasn't been built yet.

This is what I found...
ASU's new 5,000-seat arena, located in the Novus Innovation Corridor east of Sun Devil Stadium across Packard Drive, was approved last month by the Arizona Board of Regents. Construction is scheduled to begin in January with full completion in December 2022

So, if things go according to plan it will be approximately two years from now before it's ready. Leads me to think that the Big Ten will probably do the same thing in 2021-22 as this season, and then possibly schedule the first half of the 2022-23 season all away also. But, beyond the current season lots of things could change.

Personally I rather see our non-conference games against the likes of STCS , UMD or the flatulent Hawks.

Assuming they continue to be a quasi-affiliate member after this season, they could do that or they could use the off-campus arenas that they had been using prior to this season.

I don't know that they will though since this appears to be just so they could play more than a handful of games in this pandemic and I expect all the B1G teams to pay them back with games in Tempe once their new arena is built.

Side note, didn't the NCHC create some arbitrary stadium seating requirement that was just above what bemidji and mankato had so they could exclude them?

ASU doesn’t have a conference.
I know they don't have a conference why are they playing in ours? They are playing an all B1G schedule this year.
Audition.
If ASU continues to play the style they did last year they can go to hell. They belong in a league with North Dakota.

They may hff have done something, but Mankato's arena seats more than Miami and Western Michigan.

Incase you are not paying attention to the other GPL Upgrade thread... I have made some changes to the Schedule page on GPL.
https://gopherpucklive.com/schedule/

I am using new software, so it looks different. But you can click on individual games to get info as well as a simple scoring summary and post game video if it was available. Here is what the most recent Michigan game looks like.

Wally Shaver said on the pregame that the games VS Wisconsin will be at 4pm both Sat. & Sun.

We wait on TV... But I know that BTN is showing TBD all afternoon on Saturday.

With the Wild starting soon, curious if Charlie Beattie is coming back or if FSN will stick with LaPanta for Gopher Hockey the rest of the way.

If FSN picks up more games after this weekend, they will have to add someone. The Wild play the same day as the Gophers 9 times. The Wolves play 7 times on the same day. * I did not include the games at Notre Dame as they will be on NBCSN or streamed. Not sure during these times if FSN is willing to fire up FSN+ and pay for the costs of doing that. I hope BTN will pick up the majority of the games, and ESPNU is also a possible home for a couple. My guess is that games will have to be in the afternoon, like this upcoming weekend to get them on TV or there will be a ton of grumbling on this site if they are not all on tv.

There is grumbling no matter what happens. That being said, this is the first season in a VERY long time that I have watched almost every game. some of it has to do with my own kid not playing hockey for the first half of the season, some of it is due to me not coaching this year and some of it has to do with the funky games times seem to work better (Sunday/Monday nights were awesome!)

The reality of it is that it has a lot to do with the product on the ice. Its unfortunate that fans can be at Mariucci to watch, would be fun to watch that place fill up more and more, week over week.
"Hard work will beat talent, if talent doesn't work hard"
Doug Woog - 1990

This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.

Overhead on SiouxSports.com - Why does every thread always turn into a "Gopher" thread? Is there a secret infatuation with them?

Just an FYI for those who have a sports package with their provider. The 2nd game at Notre Dame will be televised on some regional NBC sports networks like one of the games last year I believe. The production value isn't great, but for those of us that have access, it will be on TV. It will also be streamed on NBC Sports .com This is from the Notre Dame Hockey website--
Minnesota Saturday, Feb. 13 – 5:30 p.m. ET

NBC Sports Chicago
NBC Sports Washington

The U said an "official" tv announcement for this weekends series will be made on Thursday. Not sure what the delay is, since a reporter in Wisconsin said it will be on FSN Wisconsin. That usually means it will be on FSN North here as well.

You would think this would be a big enough series for BIG ten network to cover. They are more focused on basketball.

I’d argue they are more focused on ratings, considering hockey draws ratings similar to softball of course they are gonna broadcast hoops.

This is about the size of it, yes. Like it or not, the fact is that college hockey doesn't get a lot of viewers.

Also a possibility is existing contracts for programming, and then all of a sudden a game is scheduled that wasn't there before.

On the Gophersports.com website, FSN will carry most of the Gopher hockey games. The games @ OSU and the last 2 series of the year are TBA yet. No future games on BTN (yet)

I've mentioned this before but I have Hulu + Live TV. While FSN is not available on Hulu, I can access FSN through the FSN Go app. I log in through my Hulu account and can stream the games on FSN Go app.

I know this has been asked before but I have HuluTV and I can get BTN through Hulu. But any recommendations on how to watch games on FSN? Is there an even remotely reliable streaming service? Or is the only way to watch games on FSN through certain cable providers?

We should almost have a separate thread as a guide for people to figure out how to get FSN. It is crazy that a regional sports station is so hard to get.
