Well. Could be worse. Could be 9-1. Although if it were, less of my night would be taken up by this horse crap.

I’m beginning to think I don’t know anything about hockey. I thought this team was looking really good after the break. Clearly I was wrong. In fact, they might even be worse now. I just don’t know.

Missing the NCAA's 4 out of the last 5 seasons (assuming tomorrow/Sunday is probably the last nail in the coffin). Don't think that's happened since 1968-1973. It's been quite a run recently.

That was actually not a bad loss to watch as a fan. So often the Gophers get my hopes up only to disappoint. At no point tonight did they show any sign of a chance. It really kept the emotions and expectations low.

7 even strength shots in 53 minutes.

And it was really 11 shots. They called an outside pipe a shot for some reason.

Of the 11 shots, I think 7 were even strength.

That was one of the lousiest games I’ve ever watched.

It reminds me of so many lackluster gopher playoff efforts of the last decade. The 2008 team vs Duluth in the final five and the Bjugstad/Haula team vs CC come to mind instantly in terms of lifelessness.

With this team I think it’s more of a talent issue though which should be fixable as long as Bob’s pipeline of recruits trends in the right direction.

I don’t think it’s all lack of talent - we’ve seen what these guys can do together. I think a lot of this is in their head.

Hopefully there’s a team psychologist cause Bob certainly doesn’t seem to be it.

Still hoping for a good ending to this weekend but it’s going to take them digging pretty deep for effort, grit, and heart.

Don’t give up yet! The fat lady might be warming up but a good sucker punch to the gut should slow her down for a bit!

How are we going to be better next year? Honest question. I don't follow Gopher hockey that closely. Who do we graduate (that's part of the current problem) and who will be new next year (that will help fix this problem)?

Ugh. I have a car flag on my car during the season and it tends to be a bad sign if it rolls up instead of flying freely on the way to the game. I should have figured we were about to lay an egg when it rolled up today.

70 some games into the Motzko era and I couldn’t be less impressed or confident in the future, and I thought he was an excellent hire too.

Yeah I'm in the same camp personally, but I assume the majority will say you have to permit 4+ seasons before you can craft an observation/perception

Twice tonight I have deleted my post saying if Lucia was behind the bench tonight there would be verbal pitchforks and torches all over the board. My wife would say we just saw a typical Motzko playoff team.

Welcome to Motzko playoff hockey!

This team is determined to finish how it started. Glad I saved that 15 bucks and stayed home.

I love the way the announcers unwittingly laud them for being soft by marveling at how they're the least penalized team in hockey. Um, yeah, we already know they're pushovers. You don't need to rub it in. :)

Now they have to sweep to have any chance to play in the post season...yeah, good luck with that boys.

I started my post and came back to it later only to see you scooped me on the "motzko playoff hockey" barb. :anger:

The posts on here a dead accurate saying if Lucia was behind the bench for this effort he would be getting roasted, now maybe part of it is no one really cares anymore, I’m sad.

100% agree, the vitriol would have been tenfold higher tonight if this was a Lucia-coached team, IMO.

I took a panoramic pic of the arena to show how empty it was but don’t see how to upload it. A bigger crowd would have helped, pinning Thinkbui’s flag straight back would have helped, Why is there a lack of urgency on a 5 minute power play? It should have been rockets, hells bells, and bull ball busters. Instead it was contemplation, analysis, and introspection. Tomorrow we’ll see if the wrecking crew shows up or the philosophy discussion group.

I say it’s time to bust out the Wooger jerseys one more time (two of they win)...if they are allowed for conference tourney play. Why the F did they keep them if they weren’t going to wear them again for good luck?

I’m still on the fence about Motzko. He wasn’t my first choice and given what he’s had to work with I think none of us expected miracles quickly. If there aren’t big positive strides and a tourney appearance next year I think the grumbling will become a dull roar that will be hard to drown out moving forward.

Here’s to two more games this season at Mariucci. Some kind of bug hit me hard during the game so I hope I can even make it out of bed tomorrow. No I have not been on a cruise, in Ramsey, or even out of the metro for several weeks. But I’ll be damn upset if I have to miss the last game(s) of the season.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the country you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

On the bright side there were alot of good seats available tonight. The Gophers were chasing the puck most of the night. It really seems like this team plays better on smaller rinks with the exception of Sammy. Hopefully they can figure out a way to score some goals and win tomorrow night.

I'm going to hold off throwing the last shovel of dirt on this team until they take their last breath, which could be as early as 9:30pm tonight. The tough part is that they have had their best goaltending and team defense we have seen all year the last few weeks, but the offense has completely disappeared. I'm with Cowgirl, break out the Wooger jerseys. #WinForWooger

I was also thinking about the gold jerseys they would wear occasionally. They just are not playing Gophers hockey with the type of intensity. Crash the net , shoot the puck hard on net and have guys going hard for the puck. You can't make the shot you don't take. Sometimes they just gotta go out there and play and have fun. If they play like that they certainly could win tonight. Every game is a must win game now. They have to play with the pride on ice attitude to have a chance.

Roasted isn't strong enough. More like eviscerated. What we've seen the last few weeks isn't any different than what the Don was doing for years.

Dump, chase, lose puck. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Anything can happen tonight, but that was easily the worst home game I think I've ever seen. Wow.

Gold jerseys and change my mind guys

ND had a plan for us and played it perfectly.

Hot goalie, sun got in our eyes, not enough 1st rounders, corpies, tdon, tbob, Marshall, Harrington, early departures, big ice...its all their fault

I only caught the last two 30 minutes of play, but I saw something a little different. Sure, they didn't mount any offensive pressure and the power play was the same it's been all year. But, ND played one of the best defensive games I have seen in a long time. They took away passing lanes, worked the body and always seemed to have two guys on the puck. There was absolutely no space for most of the time the Gophers were in the offensive zone.

Having said that, it didn't look like they tried anything different during that time to address the defense they were facing. Regardless, I'll still be there tonight.

Side note - for anyone at the game tonight, did any of the local watering holes have their patios set up yet?

Played terrible, can’t believe how we struggled to break puck out. Still had chances to win game if we could bury anything. Morris made some good save, but we need to finish better. Reedy gets that one-timer in top 3rd of net and Morris has 0 chance. Rebound he put off the post also.

Hope Perbix is okay, but that sure looked like a long term injury. Especially way he was pounding ice after.

Ranta was on a nice little surge there for awhile, but I see he's fallen back into his cement-head hockey play. He can skate, he can shoot, he can play physical. But can he play hockey?

I had the game last night on the DVR and viewed it at 2x speed. That helped a little.

What can you say about a team that gets as many shots in an entire game that a decent team gets in one period?

Looked to me like his left knee got folded up....could be ugly, but he won't have to worry about missing more than one or two games.
