So I was setting timers for the games. Figured it was a great way to start the thread.

I can hardly wait, it will be another physical series. NoDak will try and throw their weight around. This year they won't be able to check the Gophers off the puck and win the battles along the boards like they did last year in Vegas. If the Gophers play tough they can come away with the upset. Go Gophers!

What kind of student turnout do we get on Friday? Get there and get rowdy and wake up early Saturday with some carryover buzz.

There better be a band there...

Old school.... Back when I used to create highlight videos of each game from the 2003-04 season. The Final Five Championship.

Very low res since this was before YouTube and I was hosting the videos myself. Just found this tonight and put it up on YouTube,

That 2004 game was one of the best I ever attended and there was so much talent on the ice for both teams it was crazy. Almost every Gophers goal was a dirty goal that game.
Currently under construction.

From that 2004 video - the buzz in the arena after every goal, the emotion, the talent on display. Just so fun for a fan to be a part of that.

To be transparent, watching those and comparing the situation to today is not a fun one to make.

I was thinking the same thing as I listened to crowd roar.
It’s not too late to get more Gopher fans in the arena this week! Game day is only three days away!

I agree 100%. I had often thought that it was the game that I saw that had the most talent in it and I am not sure what the next game on the list is. I was never a huge final five guy but that game was great.

Went to the Las Vegas beat down last season. Hopefully this weekend isn't a repeat of that.

I attended the Vegas game last year. The NCHC officials called many soft penalties on the Gophers (especially after Gophers took 1-0 lead). With nine Canadians on North Dakota I am expecting typical chippy play (especially after whistle face washes etc)

One thing I noticed on the videos above all the seats were filled. On Stubhub tickets range from 30 for a single to more than 200. You could get a 58" tv tomorrow for that price at Best Buy  . Hopefully the weather won't keep people away. A Gophers sweep would go a long way for their confidence the rest of the year! Go Gophers!

Unfortunately, most of them already live here (or Denver). They escape that godsforsaken wasteland as soon as they can, and the handful that aren't in the Twin Cities or Denver spread their plague far and wide.

Bob Motzko decided to change up his neutral zone pressure after giving way too many opportunities the first few weeks of the season. The Gophers are trying to have a defender on the strong side of the ice and through the middle of the ice. Depending on how the opponents come through the zone one of the forwards has to read the play and sag back towards the blue line on the weak side. The two other forwards then are responsible for defending the red line.

Scott Reedy said that face-offs have been a bigger emphasis the past week. After getting destroyed in the dot by Notre Dame there was some self-scouting going on among the centers who were caught going to the same move over and over. Heading into Wisconsin they started trying up more techniques to win draws, they've been doing a more intentionaly job practicing a variety of ways to win face-offs and have spent more time scouting opposing centers ahead of the weekend.

Motzko is hoping Ranta-Reedy-McManus keeps going and thinks they have one more step. Sampo is as dialed in as he’s seen him—only advice is don’t change. Reedy is a hard stern worker, very consistent. Says he has to keep prodding the RW once in a while, but has skill to help. After the game on Saturday, Motzko said McLaughlin is back and talked about how 'sometimes sophomores come back and they want to think it’s going to be easy, it’s not. Start working like that you’re going to get rewarded."

McLaughlin agreed, 'I kind of took that to heart.... Just moving my feet, I think I was making a lot of plays standing still, just trying to be too fancy.'

I asked Bob Motzko who is grading out best among his defensemen for scoring chances and the one that’s stepped forward the most so far is Staudacher—he’s a player who should be a good fit for a series called North Dakota. He knows that he has to be careful about playing outside the dots, but it is part of his game. It allows Ryan Johnson a little more room to make plays.

Based on available tickets looking like it'll be a disappointing turnout tonight given the teams. I'd assume this is the only year of the Thanksgiving experiment.

If you mix a pretty darn good BIG home and home schedule (ND, mich, oh st, penn st, wisc, mich st) with a really good NC sked with in state teams, whioux and a trip out east most years I've got no issues...

Now with tbob we will start winning most of our games say next year or the year after and the life will come back to the building and the program...just win and it takes care of a lot of issues

NoDak one of the biggest teams, has been hitting, checking hard, playing very physical hockey, which opens up their scoring. The Gophers are a bigger team and need to take it to them right away tonight. They also need to avoid penalties as much as possible to come away with a sweep. :M: Go Gophers!

I would think there hasn't been a game in Mariucci history where home fans are outnumbered. Worried it might happen tonight.

Students should be ashamed - no reason for their section being so empty.
Except for it being a holiday where most probably went home.
The athletic department should be ashamed. It’s ralph East in here.

All this green is not helping my nausea. 🤢🤮

I hope the team shows up.

Go Gophers! :M: :M2:

Well, that is WAY too loud of a response to a North Dakota goal.

Dear athletic department:

Don’t ever schedule a game on a holiday again. Especially a big rival whose fans travel extremely well.

Blake M needed to shoot the puck on that 2-1, the D totally played the pass & gave him a clear path to the net. Every goal doesn’t need to be pretty. ND dodged that bullet...then scores shorthand.

Hideous turnover by LaCombe leads to a ND goal.

Tonight will be the first time I reply to the U of M survey after the game. There is zero support by the administration for this team. The administration should be working to fill every seat with Minnesota fans every night not try to maximize revenue. My daughter went to Gonzaga, their home basketball games reserve half of the lower bowl for students for free even though they could easily sell the seats. It makes McCarthey one of the best atmospheres for basketball anywhere. Compare and contrast, a fan crazed arena versus a third empty Mariucci. This place should be rocking and it is full of F'n Hawk fans....

Sure, but when you call North Dakota home, do you really want to spend extended time in said home? I mean a lady for the newspaper thought Olive Garden was a 5 star restaurant. I'm sure they think Minneapolis in November is as exotic as Tahiti

Burke picked a VERY bad time to lose an edge & turn the puck over..you could see that goal developing from 70 feet away

Cuz if Gopher hockey didn't get murdered by the Big Ten and holding a coach three years too long it would be good hockey

Yeah, it just gives whioux fans more time to travel.

I agree. Pathetic by the AD to set up the opportunity to fill Mariucci with the douchebag away fans and create an away game experience for the home crowd. If they couldn’t see this happening they really really suck at their job.

I hope we can scrounge up more goals. I’ll feel a little better about the situation if we can pull out a W or two.

Agree 100%...to call the Gopher administration OBTUSE relative to how they handle the men’s hockey program is being kind.
