Such an important weekend for this team. You can make excuses for the past weekend with Penn State having a bunch of upperclassmen. Wisconsin is filled with young talent, but unlike this gopher team they have been very good offensively.

Once again, I can't believe I'm saying this but a split at home is a decent result. Improvement is the most important thing right now. I'd rather see them play better and lose than get lucky and win.

Disagree with the last sentence. They need wins.

Yes, they NEED wins, but a win does less for my confidence in this team than seeing them improve and play a good game.

Simple things like shortening up passes will help. GE mentioned this (and he’s right....for once) when we were at Fridays ‘game’ that when teams struggle passing they seem to generally try longer passes as opposed to shortening it up to get more comfortable. I can think of 4 instances or so where a good pass in the offensive zone would’ve continued possession but instead they had to retreat to the neutral zone. That’s a simple mental error and one a focused team won’t make. I’m hoping we avoid this as we move forward.

Also, when passing to an open teammate, keep the puck flat on the ice! And on the stick, not in the skates! Amazing how much the game speeds up and how many options the receiver has when the passer makes both of these things happen.

Bob is trying everything he can to get the PP to click. Even Zuhlsdorf. I'm curious when he will try the 5 forwards like he did last year in the second half.

Ticket prices waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high for fans on the fence about going.

If they want to fill the arena with a team that isn't capable of playing true Gopher hockey yet you're looking at $30 buck tickets for anyone not called UND and $15 for any non WCHA team.

I've not been on the prices too high bandwagon, but we did buy a few supplemental tickets to offset our season tickets and $93 for UND, as example, is ridiculous. Even Notre Dame was $50-something. We were going to do an add-on for WI but it was priced like UND and we said nope.

We have 2 season tix and on occasion buy a 3rd so all 3 of us can go vs. my wife, daughter, and I rotating. But, with those prices I see why people don't jump in on a free weekend.

The seats we sat in last week for $38 are priced at $82 this week. How much do you want to bet they will be empty? This administration just doesn't get it.

The Athletic Dept made the decision to keep Seat Donations and Premium game pricing? With such a large college arena they should charge $25/game for the WHOLE arena (not just behind the Gophers net) for Season Tickets. Then charge $30 a game for individual games (giving season ticket holders a break). If Mariucci gets full THEN consider raising prices slowly in the following years.

I spent roughly $50 to watch the Gophers play the Bulldogs at Amsoil. It was worth the money👍 But $82 to watch the BADgers...Nope.

This might be one heck of a barometer for gopher hockey atmosphere right now. Last year against Wisconsin they had their biggest actual crowd.

To put this in perspective, I spent $94 for two tickets to Gopher football against Maryland this year. So, while I get it is UND and Wisconsin, I can go to a football game (of which there are only 7 and they only play the team once) for half the price of a Gopher Hockey game.

Wisconins football would have cost me $85 per ticket, so still less than UND for hockey. And those aren't the cheapest football seats, those are goal line chairback.

$5 discount on the cheapest tickets I believe for this weekend. Hope their servers don't crash.

Not sure if this has been offered before now, but $105 a ticket in Zone 4 for Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Michigan. That's a decent deal.

I paid 85$ for upstairs corner nosebleeds and that was the cheapest tickets available when I bought them a few weeks ago.

No Shows 2,457
:chainsaw:  :ddown:
It would be interesting to find out who the no shows are?
A. Wealthy people with expendable income
B. Corporate
C. Ticket King (big Gophers client) who aren’t able sell their tickets on secondary market
D. All the above
They say they lowered ticket prices, only to season ticket holders, Single game tickets are Outrageous as usual
The only other games with reasonable prices are Feb 7&8 vs Mich St. Other than that they're insane.
$82 to see Bemidji :chainsaw: I swear the powers that be are trying to see how empty they can get the arena.

$5 discount on the cheapest tickets I believe for this weekend. Hope their servers don't crash.

Not sure if this has been offered before now, but $105 a ticket in Zone 4 for Wisconsin, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Michigan. That's a decent deal.
Even with the discount I was still able to get Stubhub tix to the Saturday night game cheaper and better seats.

I thought people wanted to see the Gophers play in-state teams. And that $82 gets you into another game that should be decent :reading:

At the end of the day if the arena is empty it means you set prices way too high for the demand.

It depends on the goal. 3700 sold at $82 is better to them than 10,000 sold at $30.

I think we all realize the long-term consequences to that, but they also have expenses that need to be covered in the short-term.

Some people will never be satisfied. It could be a sell out and then they would say--" see, this is what the old WCHA would be like" or "1500 people didn't show up". If it doesn't sell out, they will say " The B1G 10 killed Gopher Hockey or the tickets are too high." You just go around and around with them.

I tip my hat to a fan that drives from Whioux Falls to as many games as you do. But even you have to admit there is a price point at which you say that's just too much. Would that make you whiny fan? Not to me.

In what way? Tix revenue would be nearly a wash but...

1. Concession sales don't comprise a huge revenue stream, however 10k people buy a lot more s**t than 3700
2. Prestige and recruiting. Although the :M: sells itself in many ways, I have to imagine some recruits get turned off by a building being 50%+ empty
3. Atmosphere for fans and team support. Players have admitted they feed off the crowd and 10k (which likely includes a full student section) brings a lot more noise

#1 contributes very little to the bottom line, likely less than the difference in ticket revenue. #2 and #3 contribute zero.

You are correct, I should not have added the part about the price of the tickets, especially to Bucky, Whioux and a couple of other games. I have no business telling people how to spend their money. Also, no way should the prices be that much. I could see a $10 bucks more than average. That said, when people can get tickets for $15-$25 for some games, prices should not be an issue. And yes, there is a point where price would be an issue for me. I hope it never gets to that point though. Luckily I can still justify my season tickets and that brings the average price per game down.

There are games where the price point of $1 would not fill it. There is no interest anymore. It looks like great seats are available for Saturday for $40.

#1 might contribute little, but over the course of 20 home games? Assuming $10 spent on average per person in attendance that's over a $1.2M difference from 10k to 3700. Even if it's on $5 per had that's $600k.

#2 and #3 aren't revenue impacting but they do cause downstream issues with respect to performance/results and I am sure everyone involved would prefer the program remain as competitive as possible.

Lines I think we'll see this weekend

Ranta-Reedy-McManus
Burke-Meyers-McLaughlin
Sorenson-Nelson-Walker
Perbix-Brodzinski-Marooney

Power play... saw about five different combinations out there today as they worked in-zone pp for about an hour. LaCombe and Johnson were working together on a unit--those two will be special together someday on the pp if they stick around long enough. They do such a good job keeping their skates moving, adjusting to receive passes with their feet so the puck hits their tape and they're forcing the killers out of their shape. Not sure if we'll see it in the games yet, but something to watch for one of these days.

Good news because both have the talent to be great back there on the PP. I do have concerns, however, that because they are both so offensive (which inherently involves taking chances in being TOO offensive, taking risks to keep the puck in, etc.) that skilled opponents will take advantage on odd-man breaks. Any sign that this is a concern, based on what you observed in practice?

Yes... while they do things none of the other groups seem to do, they also make a lot of mistakes and turnovers. I'll use a PJ Fleck term... they like to touch the stove and that's why I think Bob is giving them time in practice to work on the pp and not in games. Seems like a lot of coaches will just have their two units and only give them reps. Gophers seem to be giving lots of guys opportunities in practice, even if they don't get them in games.

Wait fell out favor quickly. Bob going with some size at center, surprised Walker didn’t move back to middle. Perbix with Brodz and Marooney is but surprising also. Hopefully we see some of these combinations click this weekend and score some goals! Only scored more than 3 twice all year!

Not sure why Walker is playing wing, he’s at his best carrying the puck, especially threw the neutral zone, he should be playing a position that maximizes his ability to possess the puck☝️And if Brodz isn’t on one of the two PP units in a spot where he’s shooting the puck...then tBob has self neutralized Brodz greatest strength. :conf2:

On the PP, apparently we don't have a guy like Boyd or Pitlick that can stand in the circle of their off wing and hammer a one timer.

Boyd really couldn’t do that until his senior season. Pitlick until maybe his sophomore season. Even then he really hit his stride his Junior season. Point being, just standing there and firing a one-timer seems to be a tougher skill that a freshman struggled with.

Although I do remember on that opening Alaska road trip Pitlick hammering a couple of blistering slappers home. After witnessing that I thought to myself that this freshman was going to score 50 goals!

Wasn't there a back to the ‘80’s food promotion that weekend? There were a lot of kids teams in the stands as well.

This might be one heck of a barometer for gopher hockey atmosphere right now. Last year against Wisconsin they had their biggest actual crowd.
