Does the NCAA have a stick deal with CCM?

I've been watching a lot of plane crash documentaries lately and NTSB investigator Clint Crookshanks comes to mind.

On a related note, every time the PxP guy says "CC end", the fuzzy audio keeps making me think he's saying "CCM".

Johnson just about gets stripped dangling at the blue line. Then gets caught deep. Gophers scrambling, then take a penalty.

Sure seems like the penalties are about 6-1 against Minnesota. Not a good way to win a road game.

Tough to tell when the game was broadcast in SD from 1989 ;)

Gophers played about half a good game. Sucks but we will see what happens tomorrow.

But seriously ya it’s frustrating but if this is what our first game of the year looks like then I like where we’re headed.

Still a lot of positives even though a little sloppy. Defenseman look to be a lot improved and can move the puck. Freshman forwards also looked pretty good. There was a lot of sloppy play but it went both ways, not sure if it was bad ice or just the first game of the year?

A game they could have won. CC’s goalie was good tonight. I thought the whole game turned when a freshman D started being stupid with the puck, and then got caught deep leading to a odd man rush, a penalty, and the tying goal. I thought they played a pretty good game for 2 1/2 periods.

tBob hinted that the BMW line may need a new member. My bet is Burke gets moved down. I was fairly happy with the game. Just need to find a way to hold on to a late lead. Ranta had a ton of chances to finish. I'm sure Nelson will get his chance on the 4th line. Would have loved a win, but this year will be a work in progress.

All in all not super different from what I expected, but the lack of effort the last 3-5 minutes was really concerning going forward. Woof.

Fire tBob. Gophers would have won with Brink. Need more Mn kids. Bring back the old WCHA. The NCHC refs screwed us. The announcers were against us.:D
Lol...well...another MN teams lost 2-3 tonight too...a much more experienced team... it’s one game, time to get the split on Saturday.

Disappointing result. I did see many more instances of the puck in front of the net and a Gopher there in position to put it in. They missed them but the chances were there. I swear it has been years since I have seen that for us.

Pretty bad play in the last 10 minutes though. Completely unraveled.

It will be interesting to see if the players can come together as a team and build rapport.

Come back tomorrow and get the split and all is forgiven.

Felt like this was the game they should have won. CC might be better tomorrow.

Too many penalties and no clean up shots around the net. There were several times the puck was lying loose and there was nobody there to collect the goal.

Reedy with a pretty bad mistake late in the game, committing an infraction that was too obvious to ignore.

Burke did look off/slow. He's coming off an injury right? That's a little scary

Overheard at world arena after a cc goal sieve chant.
“What’s a sieve?”
“It’s a holey sponge.”

Two minutes later after he consults google.
“I was way wrong.”

We had a good laugh over that and thanked him for making our night.

Hey goalie, you’re not a sieve, you’re a holey sponge!

It wasn’t a bad game. Obviously some sloppy parts. That has to be nerves in playing your first college game for a lot of the freshman. The first half of the season is going to be a work in progress. They’ll flash moments of being pretty good, like the first 10 mins or so of the 3rd. Then they’ll have moments where they look lost, like the last 10 minutes of the 3rd. I wonder how much of that tonight was not being in full game shape and playing at altitude. Caught up with them in the end. Just keep improving day by day and game by game.

I said it before and I’ll say it again LaFontaine looked pretty shaky tonight.

But seriously ya it’s frustrating but if this is what our first game of the year looks like then I like where we’re headed.
Mostly agree with this, the game was entertaining to watch and you can see the makings of fire wagon hockey in their game. Especially with the way the D is starting to finally get involved in the offense (Ryan Johnson was noticeable right away and I’ve gotta imagine Lacombe can play better). Way more entertaining than the first few games of Lucia’s final season where the team played not to lose from the get-go in a lot of low scoring boring games.

LaFontaine was mostly good but that one goal was kinda weak and I think he probably got outplayed by the other goalie who had some ridiculous saves. It’ll be interesting to see who’s better between him and Moe.

Not a great game by the gophers but a super young team on the road with a lot of roster turnover... you can see how that might be the case. Some stuff like the dumb penalties needs to be cleaned up but I imagine that’ll improve.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

McLauglin-Walker-Brodzinski were a AAA line that lit it up... they’ve tried them together a bit all fall.

Agree with a lot of your points - it was super refreshing to watch some offensive D help feed the play and I'm very excited to see what Johnson and LaCombe do the rest of this year. They already pretty clearly look like the two best D to me after going to the exhibition game last weekend and watching tonight.

Thought LaFontaine had a good game with a couple of lucky breaks and I also thought the 4th line played with good energy and forechecked much harder than our previous 4th line did the last few years (not that that is difficult to do).

I thought the team looked a little more cohesive than last weekend, but still a lot of work to do. I’m not a great hockey mind so I can’t really say anything mind bending that probably hasn’t already been said.

Both teams looked to have trouble keeping the puck on their sticks. Maybe the ice wasn’t great? It wasn’t that warm out, although at 45 degrees it was a far cry from the 16 degrees our vehicle displayed the night before.

I like what I’ve seen from LaFontaine for the most part although he seems a little too willing to stray pretty far from the stringy thing a la Willy Marvin. Don’t make me get that kid a leash.

I’d like to say it was the altitude but they struggled progressively more as the game progressed. It’s a big-ass ice sheet so in some sense they should feel at home. I did notice they arrived in town Wednesday; which is a day earlier than usual. I’m guessing that was to have a little extra time to acclimate. Although if you saw where they were staying, I’d come a day or two early too.
I guess I know now why our season tickets cost so much. 😳

The arena is really nothing special. The outside is nice but inside is basic. Narrow concourse, you can’t see the arena from it. Not being on campus however the entire thing was lined with bars, drink carts, and food options. The seats were all cushioned which was nice, and purple. (Which is cool if that’s your favorite color, like mine). I’d say the place was half full, maybe a little more.

It’s been a great trip thus far, it will be icing on the cake if we get to see a win tomorrow!

GO GOPHERS!!

Cowgirl, do they stay at the Broadmoor? They may get decent rates.

To everyone, all this talk about awful jerseys and I haven’t seen a photo. Help a brother out? I am on a family vacation and not near my DVR.

I don’t know who Chris, Nick, and Ben are for CC, but they were killers for us. One line scored all 3 of their goals and only 4 players had points. That’s encouraging in that CC as a team didn’t hurt us, just 3 players did. That can be corrected night to night.

They also wore white helmets with these. Combined with the poor lighting in the arena/tv they looked bad on tv. Could not read the names on the back either.

did not see any of the game last night but will be in attendance tonight in Colorado Springs. the altitude adjustment thing is very real - hits me like a 2x4 every time i travel to the mountains.

looking forward to seeing all the young guys. first gopher game in person in at least 12 years. hope they can bring home a W.
