Half the forwards will be freshman. Only 3 seniors on the roster. I'd expect a step backwards next year and hope for a turnaround the following year.

Should be another interesting year for the Big Ten at least. No real clear favorite which means everyone will be working for every point they can get in the standings. Should be fun.

My expectations aren't much different going into next season as they were going into this past season. I'll take the good with the bad along as I see progress towards being better every game. Last season it was frustrating to see the slips when they would have a really good game or series. The last month though really showed what they team can be and if the freshman can learn on the fly I don't think that the team should be any worse off than they were last season. But yes, my expectations will jump up for the 20-21 season for sure.

I will believe it when I see it when it comes to Wisconsin under Granato. Malone only real loss; Turcotte and Caufield are fantastic. However, we'd be bemoaning that youth and their goaltending looks shaky again. They have almost become BU West.

At least for one year they will be BU west. Then they could lose multiple of Turcotte, Miller, Caufield, and Holloway.

OSU, ND, UMich all losing a lot. Not that the Gophers aren’t, but it opens up the door for anybody to move to the top, even a younger Gophers team who will be even more Motzko than this past year.

OSU getting Lacynski back and Morris staying at ND for senior year. Sure would have been nice had we not lost all our flight risks last couple years.

Given Pitlick had a period of time as a recruit where he wasn't producing as much as one would hope (and caused some consternation because of it), it is great to see all of it pay off for him. As much grief as the past staff got about some things toward the end (and deservedly so), they definitely got that one right.

It's coming soon... I don't know how satisfied everyone will be with the end results (they can't give tickets away for free), but Coyle and Co. at least care about doing something to pricing for men's hockey. Fans get the final vote with their dollars and time as always.

Minnesota is going to announce their season ticket prices for 2019-20 today. Season Tickets will start at $500, so about $25/game in Zone 4. That zone has been expanded from three sections to five sections and those seats were $600 last season. It's the lowest price for Gopher Hockey tickets since 1999.

They also reduced the price in Zone 3 by $100, which are the four corner sections. So half the rink is getting a price reduction.

It's the best schedule Minnesota can practically have in the B10 era with North Dakota, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, and Bemidji State on the schedule.

The new ticketing system is still being finalized, so they aren't quite ready to process orders other than taking deposits.

Well no change for me if I want to keep my seats.

500 dollar difference within the bowl.

For me it may be a question of a ten game package of games I care about in a good seat (many will open up) or 20 in a not so good seat for a similar price.

If you look at Vegoe's map they actually jacked them up for half the arena.

Since the "base" ticket is now $500 but zone 2 is still $900 a seat and $1000 for zone 1.

I hope the finance people really checked this one because if tons of the high donation people flock to the no donation seats thats a lot of scholarship money lost overall.

Well, if I lived down there, I would absolutely buy tickets in section 23. Sitting in the corner of the arena is my favorite spot. As a goalie parent, I prefer to watch all games from that location (see the whole rink without turning my head).

This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.

Are there no zone 4 on the other side since that's where we shoot twice?

And now that they have lowered the price in the Gopher end and added two more sections, how many here will be getting tickets?

I would guess zero even though now there is like 5 sections worth of seats where you dont pay a donation.

BTW if you assume a 20 game home schedule that is $25 a ticket which is right in line with what people seemed to be asking for.

Usually I work Friday and Saturday after the New Year or I would definitely be getting tickets in those sections.

Three of the top four comments on the Strib article.

"Leave the Big Ten"

It is frustrating that the fans that have paid the most only get a discount if they move seats while new people can come right in at 500. I plan to renew in some form because those of us with tickets on this site are a dying group of die hard fans, but I expect embarrassing crowds again next year except for UND and any game with a major discount promotion on single game tickets.

I'm sure there's a reason but the fact they are playing a shell game by lowering prices but raiting the donation, and now, for instance, the Star Tribune is making that the story versus just the fact they cut prices, is very frustrating and seems like it was avoidable.

This pricing proposal is a joke right? My Zone 2 has no overall price change and I still pay Seat Donations and Parking? Im very disappointed in Coyle. Looks like this season ticket holder will wait and see what other packages offer.

I am sure the offset of reduction will be made up in the increased pricing. The season home schedule is good, so hoping new people pick up tickets, but just don't see it happening.

A ten game package of
UND x2
UMD
uw x2
Mariucci Classic x2
3 from ND, UM or last series

Would be solid

Any change in the seat license fees?
If you look at Vegoe's map they actually jacked them up for half the arena.

Since the "base" ticket is now $500 but zone 2 is still $900 a seat and $1000 for zone 1.
None of the tickets had their overall price 'jacked' up. They cut costs on seats for half the rink.

I hope the finance people really checked this one because if tons of the high donation people flock to the no donation seats thats a lot of scholarship money lost overall.
They've never had a problem selling the premium seats. This will be a test of it though.

Hard to imagine this is going to correct the STH bleeding that has been going on for several years. Do they think most people can't see through this shell game?

But your overall cost stayed the same... and you have a $500 tax deduction for your state taxes per seat.

Probably not to be honest. They need to offset the loss somewhere or most likely the BOR will pitch a fit.

It doesn't take a genius to make the U pay...dont like your donation move. Get your cake and eat it too. Plenty of seats with no donation so get them. No one will replace you so it isn't like you can't move to the pricier seats after the game starts. Pay less for the same deal.

Problem is people are too tied to their seats. That is why their donations didn't go down the U knows they will either stop or keep them but never move. The money will even itself out unless over half drop most likely.

If you are mad but still want to get tickets pay for the lowest tickets. The price is good and the seats are as well and hell it might just help the atmosphere while poking the U as well. Win/win/win.

I guess I failed simple math... Don't save a penny but don't add one either. I didn't look at the invoice to see that there was a $30 processing fee, just looked at the total amount.

True Comparison:
2018-2019 - $700 ea. ticket. plus $300 ea. donation. Total, $2000
2019-2020 - $500 ea. ticket. plus $500 ea. donation. Total, $2000

So there you have it. Doesn't impact my pocketbook or my decision to renew.

I used to split 2 seats with 3 other people in zone 2 but dropped out 3 years ago as the on ice product didn't follow the seat license increase.

The current price for zone 4 is pretty reasonable actually. I'd consider buying back in if we hadn't started leaving MN for Jan/Feb. Wouldn't be surprised at all if some zone 2 people decide to save $400 and move a few sections over.

It is expected that Minnesota will make changes in the State tax law to more closely follow the feds. If so that $500 tax deduction could vey well disappear.

P.S. I totally forgot about the State tax deduction for 2018! :anger:

So now $25 a game is too much?

If the non-don seats aren't sold out next year then the whole "price is why I don't go" argument dies on the vine.

Hell the UND tickets alone is like 20% of the price.

That narrative doesn't work though because then it isn't the fault of the U and people don't like that. The U could lower them to $400 and people would whine.

You are not having to change seats to get a discount after pumping tons of money into the school (relative to other college hockey prices). It's important to maintain the relationship with your best customers.

Let's wait and see. At least they did something and let's hope the net count goes up despite my initial estimate.

The incorrect commentary on this in the media is ridiculous. CCO radio just made the comment base price went down and “seat license fee” went up implying prices are up overall.

Then, Mike Max went into a definition of what a seat license fee is. Great, other than this isn’t a seat license fee. We don’t pay a fee for the right/ownership of our seat. We pay a donation fee that is tax deductible (for now).

The U could pay them to go and they would complain.

Here is how this will play out...the Strib and some whiny fans will spend all summer biotching about the ticket prices. People wont buy them because all they will hear is that some fans got an increase on their donation to offset the non-donation seats. Fans will whine the prices are too great. Ticket prices for UND will keep even MORE fans away. Fans will whine about atmosphere and no one showing up. Strib will write negative stuff and sick their clowns like Reusse on it. Fans will CONTINUE to whine about prices meanwhile 5 sections of seats that have no donation and are priced at the price point these same fans said was ok will go unused because people were too busy talking about how important they are and how the U owes them and not buying tickets that satisfy their price point. Rinse. Repeat for Single Game Tickets.

15 years ago this reduction would have been BS because there was a < 1% you would be able to move into those sections due to demand. I guarantee every Gopher fan that is whining on here and Twitter could move whenever they have their chance to order and not even come close to filling those sections. Hell if we did that and got the students to actually show that might be the highest attendance we have had in years and probably the best atmosphere! Hell it isnt like the home schedule isnt worth it...they basically gave everyone what they wanted. (Minnesota teams in the Classic, UND)

Buy them, dont buy them the choice is yours. But if you whine about the price point then you should be taking advantage of the tickets valued where you want them. Otherwise you just sound like a hypocrite looking for a reason to cry about something.

The fans have a chance to show the U in real time what the value of the experience is to them. Sell out the low priced sections and they just might adjust accordingly. If the fans ignore it all it will show the AD is the price isnt the problem. This is Logic 1001 stuff here. The U is giving you the opportunity to buy seats at a reduced price. If you choose not to you have no one to blame but yourself really. And it works if you do it right. If the Twins "low concession price" section stays popular all season I guarantee they add more. If Gopher Hockey fans take advantage of the non-donation seats the U will do something to make the price point better.

This is exactly it... there isn’t a bad seat in Mariucci. People can vote with their dollars in the end. If those five sections do well, then you’ll see more tickets available at this price.

They could also risk losing STH in the donation sections. I've talked to many STH that plan to drop that are in the donation sections.

Well, they have that option now with more sections than last year. STH don’t have to pay the donation fee if they don’t want to and still have pretty good (viewpoint) season tickets seats. And on nights where they don’t draw well, they can also sneak into their old seats when the usher is distracted 😉

A little strange that the attendance woes of men's basketball hasn't received near the publicity as has the hockey program. According to the article in the Strib, average announced attendance for hockey this past season was 7,944 in an arena seating 10,000 (79.44%) vs. BB which averaged 10,774 in 14,625 seat Williams (73.67%). Pretty close in terms of percentage, but hockey did lead by nearly 6 points. And if the percentage of no-shows is similar between the two, basketball had roughly twice as many empty seats as did hockey. Yet all year long all the bad pub on attendance was directed at the hockey program. :confused2:

I sit in zone 4 and am pleased I’ll save 200$ on my pair of tickets.
Lowering ticket prices while raising the “donation” to match the decline in seat price is not going to cut it for many I’d imagine. It’s not a donation if you are forced to pay it.

I would like to see the zone 4 seats fill up. That would certainly show them it’s a decent price point. On the other hand that means I may not have as many empty seats nearby for my friends to come sit by me. ;)
