Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
In all the years.... Only 1 exhibition game has been on radio. And that was back in the 90's
Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
Another MN team was on the radio last night...wait...nevermind...that was a scrimmage too

Loved the motor I saw on Sorenson. Also, feeling better about the goalie situation, LaFontanie looks like he knows what he’s doing. Also, very impressed by Close
Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
Can't read much into a scrimmage, but here you go.
-Overall and on the PP it was sloppy for sure. That is to be expected.
-Lacombe and Johnson will be the two best D on the team by Christmas if not before. Not surprising.
-Stucker seemed to be "QB1" on the PP. I hope and don't expect this to last long.
-Lacombe was kind of QB2. I expect him to take over for Stucker.
-Usually you have three D on your two PP units. I expect it to end up Lacombe on 1 with four forwards, and Johnson with either Stucker or Nanne on the second unit.
-D depth is better than F depth in terms of the extra skater. I expect Staudacher to be the most common extra skater, especially with his physicality.
-This will leave Denman and Rossini looking for playing time.
-With 7 D, the top 12 F is clear, especially until Weber comes back. Munson and Marooney won't play much.
-Sammy will be the best player on the team and there won't be much debate.
-The freshmen look like they will all be fine.
-Hopefully BB (and Ranta) get enough chances to release their great shots.
-Nelson and Sorenson should be good replacements immediately for Romanko and Ramsey. Nelson looks to have a good wrist shot. Hopefully he can hit the net more than Romanko, and if so, he'll score more than Romanko did. Thank god lol.
-I know it's one game, but did Reedy play?
-I'd say between 1,500 and 2,000 in the arena.
-Beer has finally arrived. It will sell well. There need to be WAY more recycling bins. Coke has them but in hard to read print they say plastic bottles only. People will constantly screw that up.
-Pitlick is not on the mural yet. Confusing.
-The bathooms had an exit only sign on one side. Good luck with that LMAO.
-How the NCAA still doesn't allow visors is beyond me.

Oh, and DAMN EXCITED for the season to start Friday in CC. Looks like decent weather for those of us going, too.
Even in an away game CC is not a scary matchup. A sweep is definitely possible. I assume the series will get a thread.

The bathrooms have had exits only for as long as I can remember.
They will probably unveil the new mural at the season opener.
It was good to be back at a Mariucci. The kids looked a little tired as the game wore on, sloppier play in general. Good to work some of the bugs out now. Looking forward to a great season!

That would be good because it caught me so off guard I forgot to tip.
That leads me to another note from the game. They have to put the prices on the beer coolers. I had no idea what I was about to pay. I predicted 10. But it wasn't even clear if the different beers all had different prices.
I suppose if I predicted it was 10 I wasn't ready to tip anyways... Beer in Mariucci was just a total shock to the system lol.

A couple of things I noticed, the BMW should be line 1. BB is a strong center, and should center another line. He was great at Blaine and shouldn't change positions now. This way he can center on the penalty kill and power play and it will make a big difference.

I'm questioning if it's really expected in the arena situation...
It's not a pour. They literally take the can and open it for you. If that is tippable service...
Idk
I don't think I'll tip. I don't tip the concessions people.

I don't tip at arenas. IMO, not a tippable job. *shrug* FTR, I tip like Steve Martin in "My Blue Heaven."

I don’t know either. Seems like we as a society always feel compelled to tip for coffee, booze, haircuts and rides but not much else.

Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
It’s one thing to play center in HS and quite another (as a true freshman) to play center in D1 on a bandy sized home rink. Skating and playing D are not BB strength, SHOOTING and to a lesser extent, setting up teammates is/are. Ben Myers is 2 years older and more capable of playing center, if needed. BB will be a wing this year, get used to it.gopherfun83 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06 8:25 pmA couple of things I noticed, the BMW should be line 1. BB is a strong center, and should center another line. Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
Good point, I agree there is a big difference, but I also think, he's definately strong enough and good enough to play center as a freshman. Sammy Walker was last year. I'm sure Bob will make some adjustments before Friday night, just not sure what?bearpaw28 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06 8:41 pmIt’s one thing to play center in HS and quite another (as a true freshman) to play center in D1 on a bandy sized home rink. He was great at Blaine and shouldn't change positions now. This way he can center on the penalty kill and power play and it will make a big difference.![]()
Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
Walker has world class speed so his transition was easy. BB will be at wing to start for a while.

Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
Good to get in Mariucci again! I wish I had seen more good play from the team. They were a real mess at times. It is fine to say it was a scrimmage but they didn't seem to have any drive to score or any offensive cohesion. Passing was messy. It seemed most passed were to the offhand and players struggled to receive it.
LaFontaine looked like the best goalie tonight. Now looked jittery and nervous.
I'm very curious to see how they look next week. They will have to play better than tonight.
Still, great to get the season started. Go Gophers!

Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
I am not sure where to put this question, I put it here as this thread probably gets the most eyeballs and a higher likelihood of someone who lives outside the local market to see it, and it is related to Gopher Hockey
I live in Michigan, outside the Fox Sports North Market. In order for me to watch gopher hockey I have had to have either DISH or DIRECTV and deal with their lousy customer service, high fees..... Id love to cut the cord and have other programing I enjoy for a lower price but I have been unable to find any options that work. As far as I can tell, the streaming services, at best, only offer the local FSN channel (in this case Detroit)
Does anyone know if there are any streaming services that offer a regional sports "bundle" (regular DISH and DIRECTV do, and charge a monthly fee which I am ok with, its just the rest of the costs -- and the package I have to buy to qualify is another bite)? Are there other options, like BTN plus that would allow me to get these games out of market? Thanks to anyone who has experience in this area

Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
Another GPL'er is checking on this ....it appears the answer is if you're outside of FSN distribution and don't want to buy DirecTV, you have to subscribe to an internet-based programming provider (like FUBO, YouTubeTV, Playstation) that carries BTN (so you can see the BTN games) and you have to subscribe to BTN+ to get all the FSN games.coondog wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07 7:51 amI am not sure where to put this question, I put it here as this thread probably gets the most eyeballs and a higher likelihood of someone who lives outside the local market to see it, and it is related to Gopher Hockey

If true, this is actually better than prior seasons when it was impossible to get FSN games w/o DirecTV or Dish.

Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
I went to the BTN plus website and I could not find this information, I was hoping!. I searched for games this week, and filtered for Minnesota and all I got was a soccer game and a volleyball match. I filtered for ice hockey and got no games available. I am hoping I am wrong.maddie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07 8:25 amAnother GPL'er is checking on this ....it appears the answer is if you're outside of FSN distribution and don't want to buy DirecTV, you have to subscribe to an internet-based programming provider (like FUBO, YouTubeTV, Playstation) that carries BTN (so you can see the BTN games) and you have to subscribe to BTN+ to get all the FSN games.coondog wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07 7:51 amI am not sure where to put this question, I put it here as this thread probably gets the most eyeballs and a higher likelihood of someone who lives outside the local market to see it, and it is related to Gopher Hockey

PlayStation Vue! I live in San Diego and paid a ton for direct tv for years. Switched to Vue last season, core package plus sports pack gets you all the Fox Sports channels and Big10 network

Thanks, if anyone else knows of other options be glad to look at them. At least more options than I had a few hours ago, so thank you very much
BTW, I chatted with BTN+ and they said games will be on BTN+. I responded that I don't see any mens hockey games listed, including the Nov 1 game vs Notre Dame (which is televised on BTN), and I was told "The schedule is randomly updated if the game that you are looking for is not listed that does not mean it will not be available". Thats a real confidence builder.

Of the over the top TV services, PS Vue is the best for sports. Unlike PS Vue, FUBO allows one subscriber to stream three separate IP addresses simultaneously.....can share the FUBO service with my Denver-area kids.glenhogan21 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07 8:43 amPlayStation Vue! Well, this should excite some people here. AIC is ahead of the Gophers in the others receiving votes portion of this weeks hockey poll.

Surprised at no mention of McLaughlin. Thought he looked real sharp (and not just the points/goal). Definitely a bright spot from that game. Want to see more from Reedy too, he did play though lolBonin21 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06 8:10 pmCan't read much into a scrimmage, but here you go.

Re: 2019-2020 Gopher Hockey Season Thread
Recent history of BTN+ streams has been pretty good. Their MO seems to be "aim low and surprise them when the streams come". A lot of times the streams don't update until the week of. If it's on BTN, then I'm almost 1000% sure that there will be a live stream available. And, they have seemed to bend over backwards to include all Gophers games on stream somehow. Like, this last weekend's scrimmage. I don't recall the last Gopher game (outside of away out of conference games) that hasn't at least had a BTN+ stream for it, especially a B1G conference game.coondog wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07 9:00 amThanks, if anyone else knows of other options be glad to look at them. On my hockey team 2 years ago, I had a Kaleb, Kellen, Kasen, Karson & Karsten. That was rough.
"Hard work will beat talent, if talent doesn't work hard"
Doug Woog - 1990
This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.
Overhead on SiouxSports.com - Why does every thread always turn into a "Gopher" thread? Is there a secret infatuation with them?

During the year, quite a bit. Strong Gopher coverage from Vegoe, but also other Minnesota teams as well. Have not seen as much nationally.

Anyone know if fox sports go has the game for tomorrow listed yet? I only ask because I used my brother’s login for DISH for the longest time and you could use that for the BTN2go streaming. But now that it’s fox I’m not sure if only people in our region would get access to the stream...
I plan to update my cable package anyhow but in the short term I might just have to hit up a bar tomorrow.
