We all know Bonin can’t pass up an immature shot at Edina, very juvenile.

My goodness calm down it's a true statement and didn't say anything negative about his character.

If anything his background increases the chances for more years out of the player.

The fact he could supposedly go live the high life but instead choose to stay in college should be seen as a good thing. At least from a character perspective.
Currently under construction.

Nancy? That was slightly unprovoked. Nanne did play better the last month or so of the season, like a lot of guys. But the only thing he has done consistently since getting here is turn the puck over.

Regardless of his quality of play or stats, the D-core will need a veteran's leadership on getting them adjusted more quickly to the college game. Personally, I think it is a classy move. He is graduated, he could give the ol' Hakstol to the school and go on and do something different.

Christ, some people piss and moan about how no one stays 4 years and now when someone does, he shouldn't have.
"Hard work will beat talent, if talent doesn't work hard"
Doug Woog - 1990

This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.

Overhead on SiouxSports.com - Why does every thread always turn into a "Gopher" thread? Is there a secret infatuation with them?

I don’t think anyone is saying he should move on. The discussion started when Bonin21 made fun of someone stating Tyler made the choice to come back for his senior season, as if he had no other options.

Some of us were just pointing out that, although he may not be looking to jump to the NHL, he is a graduate and could easily have chosen to start his career.

I don’t think I said I didn’t want him to come back. Just hoping he isn’t our best defenseman next year.

Tyler will be a solid player next season. Helps to have senior leadership. But sunbone stating that he hopes Tyler isn’t the Gophers best D...is legit.

3 or 2 D
3G

Full confirmation to come soon.

It says with 12 new he expects 19 underclassmen. That would mean one departure.

Stucker Wait or Denman in that order. I expect Stucker because I expect 3 D to come in partially fueled by that departure.

Interesting to read that Reedy/McManus had shoulder surgeries before last season, I didn't know that. Reedy looked pretty solid in year 1 and took a step back last year in my estimation so hopefully this is a breakout year.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

The surgeries were done after the end of the 18 season, so likely in early-mid April. And shoulder surgery typically takes minimum of 5 months recovery time. So they were cleared to play when the season started, but lost about 6 months of upper body strength training last offseason.

D: Lacombe, Staudacher, and a Ryan Johnson (probably him)
F: Nelson, Brodzinski, Sorenson, Perbix
Above are all enrolled in Continuing Education for Summer 2019.

Someone named Jack Jensen (guessing him) has enrollment info of Spring 2019. Maybe classes at EP.

Ranta and Phillips do not show Fall 2019 for enrollment info.

Meyers?

Also that doesn’t mean Ranta and Phillips are 100% gone right it just could mean they’re “weighing their options”

Meyers is too forgot to list him.

No it doesn't mean anything 100%. Just something I noticed and Phillips name had been thrown out previously. With respect to Ranta I have mentioned many times that a very high percentage of non-Minnesotans either never make it here or don't stick around. We'll see and I certainly think that would be a big loss...

But Bob did mention in a recent article (if you do the math) that one freshman from last year would be leaving.

Probably one of the guys that didn’t play much. Based on this Ranta seems he is coming back, and I would expect him to be much better year 2.

Well, I guess the guys who said Phillips wouldn't be a 4 year player here were right.

Didn't Phillips come in halfway through his first year because the team was short of d-men? Was that his choice or did the team "ask" him to come mid-season?

Do we have confirmation that Johnson has graduated high school? Everything I've heard has said he has a year left. I think it would be Koster in place of him if we take three.

There are probably multiple Ryan Johnsons enrolled at the school every single year. And The Athletic article from last month said he would join in 2020.

I remember an afternoon game at Sparty last year, Dave starman was doing the game for BTN and he made it sound like Phillips was the second coming of Rob Blake. It really blew starman’s credibility in my eyes.

Where did he get credibility to lose?

Generally I agree but he is the typical age of a high school senior (albeit on the young side) and easily has the most experience at the highest levels pre-college. Staff was kind of boxed in given defensive pipeline prior to their arrival; Johnson playing in 19-20 is likely best case scenario for team.

It’s the same as the brink situation. Both players should be in high school next year but are both good enough to be playing college. If he’s good enough I’m fine with it. I mostly agree with your point though.

Did he start school late since he was on the young side? Age-wise, he was a young high school senior last year and college freshman age this coming fall.

Have said this before but you can only add so many Denmans of the world to your roster before it creates a long-term issue. Bob will get his recruiting pipeline squared away over time of course, but at some point you have to infuse talent and have the age issue hopefully work itself out with Bob getting guys to stay that extra year as he often talks about.

It says with 12 new he expects 19 underclassmen. That would mean one departure.
Locked (I think)

Weber, Meyers, Nelson, Perbix, Sorenson, Brodzinski (6)
Staudacher, Lacombe, Johnson (3)
Lafontaine, Moe, Close (3)
= 12 new

Wait, Burke, Walker, McLaughlin, Ranta, Denman, Stucker, Brinkman (8)
- Lafontaine (junior)
= 19 underclassmen

Now we wait for puck.

8 non Minnesotans is the most in ages. I'm one of few that hurts a little because of that (yes I know most don't), but I wanted Bob and my confidence in him hasn't gone down a bit.

Two time defending champs may soon become "The Minnesota team", as they only had 9 non-MN last year and a couple graduated.

Couple notes...

Schedule will be out today.

Some of the freshman are on campus for summer now, but for whatever reason they're being quiet about it. LaFontaine or Close won't be on campus until fall, it's what they do with 'internationals.' Brodzinski, Perbix, LaCombe, Meyers, Nelson, Moe and Staudacher are going to be enrolled for summer.

We were joking about the team getting younger with Phillips leaving, but actually Weber makes them older.

Mini Plans will go on sale in late July, so too early to tell how the STH sales are going until we get closer to the 'deadline' for renewal.

In case anyone here was wondering, no more summer golf tournament for either hockey program.

Model Camp is going to be July 22-26 at Mariucci -- couple more graduations to go and the ice will be back. Raboin and Gordon will be running it. It'll be interesting to see how things go with the camp this year with the new recruiting rules in place.

Ryan Johnson, Jackson LaCombe and Mike Koster took part in the NHL Combine last week. Johnson made the top 25 for Aerobic/Anaerobic Fitness Test and Vertical Jump, Koster for Anaerobic Fitness and LaCombe for Body Fat and Left Hand Grip. Brinkman wasn't there, which is kind of strange to me. Brodzinski, Pitlick, and Huglen should also get selected somewhere.

Saturday and Sunday were not options for the game, so taking a shot at Thanksgiving night. Should be the easiest drive and parking experience on campus for that one.

From the article above:
The Gophers will also host a pair of exhibition games during the 2019-20 campaign with Mount Royal University visiting 3M Arena at Mariucci on Sunday, Oct. 6 while the U.S. Under-18 Team comes to campus on Friday, Jan. 17.

Will there be an exhibition game the weekend of Oct 5th?
From the article above:
The Gophers will also host a pair of exhibition games during the 2019-20 campaign with Mount Royal University visiting 3M Arena at Mariucci on Sunday, Oct. 6 while the U.S. Under-18 Team comes to campus on Friday, Jan. 17.

Reading comprehension isn’t my forte I guess. 😆. I think I missed it because I was looking at Saturday of that weekend on the calendar. Thanks!

Why could the hockey game not be played Sunday?
Cause everyone and their mother would biotch about a Friday-Sunday series ;)
