I'm guessing Oct. 5 will be an exhibition game and then they'll travel to Colorado Springs for a series with the Tigers October 11-12 to start the season.

I am excited they are coming to Colorado. 20 minutes from my house to the World Arena. Will be nice to see them in person without having to fly back to MN in the dead of winter.

Waiting on at Notre Dame. I'd like to make the trip. However at the Springs? In October? Where I mostly work 3 day weeks due to PTO requests? That's very intriguing.

$238 round trip flight right now on United for that weekend.

This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.

I used to go out to Denver/CO Springs twice a year, from about 2008 ( ) to 2012-13. Those prices really haven't budged a whole lot. I like it.

The only overlap between Football and Hockey appears to be the Thanksiving weekend series with North Dakota here for hockey and WI here for football.

No other Big Ten conflicts in Oct/Nov.

Yeah they for some reason have not put it up yet, but they describe the home schedule, and with the Big ten release we know those road games, and we know we are at CC Oct 11-12

I think they whiffed on the North Dakota series. Isn’t Thanksgiving weekend one of the weekends with NO students at the game??? At least that’s how it was this year with Michigan State. That combined with other on campus things makes me worry about attendance. I really shouldn’t have to worry about attendance against the Whioux but we all know how attendance has dipped in recent years.

I like the Thanksgiving weekend for this series. Even with the students out, there will be enough intrigue to sell those seats. Hopefully, Gopher Sports will realize the number of students on break and sell those tickets to the UND fans dumb enough to spend $100 a ticket to watch their team lose to their biggest rivals. Even at $90 a ticket last time they were here, the stands were full. In-laws from that barren wasteland up north are already planning the trip. Time to start planning a dynamite turkey brine.

Well this weekend should really test the new partnership with Paciolan as some people will be trying to move their seats on StubHub.

https://gophersports.com/news/2019/5/10 ... th=general

I'm hopeful it's a full house for these games, but even last time North Dakota came to town it was a sellout but a lot of tickets were unused.

I'd also imagine that athletics tries to figure out the best way to fill the student section for this one. Last year they let their 'Friday' and 'Saturday' ticket holders attend any game they wanted. If they do that again this year, then that means every seat is double sold and students can get to every game for about $5/each.

I guess I will be the wet blanket on the Whioux series. As a season ticket holder that lives 3 1/2 hours away, playing on Turkey Day is not ideal for me. I know I'm in the minority with the driving distance, and i guess that's on me. I also realize that with the football on Saturday, that night would not have worked. I would have preferred Fri night-Sunday afternoon. Another dumb question, what bars will be open around the arena that day. Is Blarneys, Sallys, or BWW normally open that day? Our normal routine is driving up and sitting in the local bar before the normal Friday night game. Nothing I can do about it I guess.

Hopefully we're set up for a surge of the Maroon and Gold whilst the easterly neighbor in St. Paul may well be on the decline. Crowds in search of good hockey may come west. Too much to hope for?

The band would not attend on Friday if they are practicing for a game Saturday. Thursday will probably not be mandatory if it’s a holiday but who knows.

Just remember last time North Dakota came to town in November 2016 they sold 9,939 tickets on Friday, 7,615 showed up... sold 10,310 on Saturday, and 7,464 showed up. Single game seats for the North Dakota series were selling for $100-$130 and the UMN made out just fine.

That first series (at home) against Niagara is pivotal...to get a sweep, both from a momentum & PAIRWISE standpoint.

Not necessarily. The band showed up for a Friday night game before a football game last season.

It boggles my mind that 25% of people would spend $100 to attend a sporting event, then not go. I have no words...

I hope the U learned something after last season over priced tickets for most games I hope The Who tickets are not $100.00 like their last visit
It boggles my mind that 25% of people would spend $100 to attend a sporting event, then not go. I have no words...
Because they only paid $35 or so for that ticket. They charge a single price for season tickets, not broken down with different levels of games.

It will be a sea of green and there will be a ton of no show STH. Just how it is.

So does the fact that the U upcharges a number of games for people buying single game tickets compensate for when they cut prices for other games?

Yes that's the idea. The UMN doesn't want the total for tickets ala carte to be less than the season ticket pricing.

If season tickets are $500 and you have your 21 dates, you could tier the games like so and it'd be cheaper to buy season tickets than single games.

$10 Games
Sunday Oct. 6 Mount Royal University (ex)
Friday Oct. 18 Niagara at Minnesota
Saturday Oct. 19 Niagara at Minnesota
Friday Nov. 15 Penn State at Minnesota
Saturday Nov. 16 Penn State at Minnesota
Friday Jan. 17 USNTDP U-18 at Minnesota (ex)
Friday Feb. 7 Michigan State at Minnesota
Saturday Feb. 8 Michigan State at Minnesota

$25 Games
Friday Jan. 24 Ohio State at Minnesota
Saturday Jan. 25 Ohio State at Minnesota
Friday Nov. 1 Notre Dame at Minnesota
Saturday Nov. 2 Notre Dame at Minnesota
Saturday Dec. 28 Mariucci Classic (Bemidji St)
Sunday Dec. 29 Mariucci Classic (Minnesota State/St. Cloud State)
Friday Feb. 28 Michigan at Minnesota
Saturday Feb. 29 Michigan at Minnesota

$50 Games
Friday Oct. 25 Minnesota Duluth at Minnesota $50
Friday Nov. 22 Wisconsin at Minnesota $50
Saturday Nov. 23 Wisconsin at Minnesota $50
Thursday Nov. 28 North Dakota at Minnesota $50
Friday Nov. 29 North Dakota at Minnesota $50

I didn't mean mathematically, just more generally. There is periodic near-grumbling when they have ticket deals. I haven't heard any quasi-crowing when others have to pay 2x to attend.

You’d think, but again. Holiday break, no students, typically a lame crowd in general. There will probably be more away fans than home.
I appreciate that the school is trying to schedule the old rivals, but the application of it is poor. I’m sure they can’t because of big ten scheduling needs, but pick a weekend when we could have the real band, a rowdy student section and more of the general fan base in town and able to attend.
Yeah I know, we can’t have everything and I will of course be there, but we can’t act surprised if the attendance is poor for this tourney and the hawks.

Interesting idea, but the whole point of the Mariucci Classic is as a "Holiday Tournament" so I don't see that ever changing.

Student section is up for sale. You'd think that fans of SCSU and Minnesota State would want to see their teams at Mariucci... but of course I thought the NSCC would work too.

About 10,000 people showed up to that so in theory mariucci should do fine

Reminds me of the Vikings scratch off ticket where they had a purple helmet and a green and yellow helmet and if the purple score was higher than the yellow, you won. But as you scratch off the ticket you find the yellow helmet beats the purple helmet over and over and over. :anger:

What the hell kind of stupid idea is that?

A fair amount of Purple Cow fans had talked about this tournament when it was announced and sounded like most of the small group I know were planning on going up. As long as the tickets are $25 a piece I don't think opponent fans will squeak about that. I will probably make the trip if I can get $25 tickets.

If the video was produced by students they were 11 yrs old the last time North Dakota was a rival, the UND/MN rivalry means nothing to anyone under 25, they never saw it or experienced it, it’s just another non-conf series to them.

This would have been the type of childish trolling I would absolutely expect UND to have done if they produced a video. Had the Gophers done it with this one, I would have thoroughly enjoyed it and approved of it.

This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.

Overhead on SiouxSports.com - Why does every thread always turn into a "Gopher" thread? Is there a secret infatuation with them?

The UND/MN rivalry means nothing to anyone under 25, they never saw it or experienced it, it’s just another non-conf series to them.
Surrrreeeeeeee

Ask the players which series is the most intense.
Sure didn’t look like the Gophers were too intense in Las Vegas last year.

That wasn't a series that was a random game in the middle of nowhere with basically no Gopher fans and a team that had played a handful of games under a new coach.

People actually think the majority of the fan base, regardless of age, doesn't like the old rivalries 100x more than all the Big Ten ones.

I would think that if a rivalry was uber intense the players would be able to get up for it anytime anywhere. That’s just me though.

Bob inherited a squad with a few too many pretty boys too lazy to get up for every game. That'll evolve quickly.

I'm "100x" over it. And for those who still long for the "good 'ol WCHA days", eight of the Gophers ten non-conference games this coming season are against former WCHA opponents. And so what if they're no longer regular season league games? They'll count just as much towards securing a spot in the NCAA Tournament. And how you do in the playoffs is what really defines your season.

So now the UND rivalry isn’t in fact an intense one because we have prima donna’s on our team? I’m have a hard time keeping up with your changing premises and the stipulations that go along with them.

If I'm reading this right, Bonin is saying UND isn't a blood rivalry because these kids haven't played them, especially in the old WCHA. Therefore, not a rivalry. No basis for reference.

From a fan standpoint it's still the biggest rivalry, and from a player standpoint it is, too. We played like $h!t for one game in the desert. That doesn't minimize the rivalry.

From a fan standpoint it is absolutely a big rivalry. From a player's POV....it might not be.

Social media interviews?? What are they supposed to say? I didn’t see any interviews game weekend the last two years. Hell, didn’t Blake wheeler do the “hype” video for the series two years ago? That’s prob the last guy to experience the rivalry when it was heated.

You mean like the hype videos and social media stuff they did for the Big Ten and the rivalries with Michigan and Michigan State back in the day? Let me guess, you probably believe 4 out of 5 dentists really suggest you chew a lot of Dentyne too dont ya ;)

Funny, if the rivalry was such a big deal for the fans why is everyone whining about UND filling the arena? If the fans care so much shouldnt they be willing to show up for the games? If the fans felt the rivalry as much as you claim they do UND fans wouldnt be able to get in the building because everyone would buy tickets right away.

Please explain...and dont give me some BS about ticket prices (UND fans dont seem to have an issue paying for them) or the BTHC (the BTHC should have the fans SALIVATING for this series) you keep saying this is a massive rivalry, the one the fans care about most. If the fans care...where the bleep are they?

See that is the dirty little secret though...they talk about all of these rivalries and how important it was to play all these teams. So the U schedules them, quite often actually, and yet the same fans crying and whining for the rivalry games make up new excuses not to show. (just like they didnt show when we played them in conference) Oh the games dont matter or, the games are at the X not Mariucci, or the team isnt playing well or the tickets werent brought to their door by the entire team in a 24 karat gold envelope with all times TBD based on their schedule and wants. It is always something...
GG13 can burn in hell! #neverforget

The entire above post is an opinion. If you disagree with me, that is aok by me :) :dup:

Hate to break it to you but Gopher hockey fans are not that passionate overall, especially given the trending decline of the program over the last ten years. Look at the traffic on here... Yes, they care about the Whioux series the most of any series. But the Whioux fans care more. So they're the ones on the website the minute the tickets go on sale.

Let's say Whioux fans weren't allowed to buy tickets. Would the games sell out? Yup, but not right away when tickets go on sale.

Take 100 Gopher hockey fans and say we'll give you one home game ticket, pick the team. UND game wins.

Was there, UND fans took over the game. 99% wearing green, Gophers played as hard and as well as you could hope at that time of the year in that building. Minnesota-UND is still intense. People still care. Got harassed more walking from my car to the arena one night in Grand Forks (2017) than an entire weekend that year in Madison. Just because we’re in different league doesn’t mean people don’t care.
