I don't follow NHL close enough, but isn't this a little misleading since Kaprisov played KHL for a few years before joining the NHL? Just a guess that many on this list were a little younger than KK?

That isn't to say he isn't very, very good. But I can see why we wouldn't assume he is the next Con Smythe winner.
I wouldn’t say misleading. It’s just the way the NHL works similar to the MLB when players debut and are rookies. Top picks will come into the league at 18-19 years old. Others early 20s. Guentzel was 23 I believe when he wrapped up his rookie year.

The KK situation is more unique because he could have been in the NHL no question earlier it just didn’t work out that way.

20 years ago a certain 27-year old came over from Japan and had 242 hits on his way to ROtY. :)

Look at the list of players ages who have won the Calder. Kaprizov is not of the ordinary. Makarov won it at 31. Belfour/Nabokov won it at 25.

I don't think anyone thinks him winning the Calder is odd...

In the end I feel like the age thing just means the Wild missed out on a few 30-35 goal seasons from him that they would have gotten if he was from NA. He seems like a top 10-15 player for the 7-10 years, but may not win the points and goal scoring races with Matthews and McDavid around and the same age.

Parnarin won it at 25 in 2016 coming over from KHL. Precedent clearly set, very recently.

It's a bit misleading in that Kaprisov is 25, and I'm guessing none of the players on this list were 25 for their rookie season. (though many / most(?) weren't 18).

He just turned 24. Kubalik was 24 all of last season. Grabner was 23 all of that season.

Not sure I'd call it misleading per se - it's just a stat. As some already noted Panarin was 24 when he won in 2016, Raycroft was 23 in '04, Nabokov 25 in '01, Belfour 25 in '91, Makarov 30 the year before, etc. So KK earning ROTY wouldn't be that unheard of.

Looks like a typical Wild squad right before the playoffs. Have we ever looked good the 2-3 games going into the playoffs?

Talbot was fighting the puck tonight, and the rest of the team didn't seem to be too interested in playing either.

The Twins will likely cause a deficit no matter how many goals the Wild score. :)

What a laffer organization they have become...jaw dropping fall.

I hope he plays well so he can be an option when injuries occur during the playoffs. Teams need depth guys to fill in holes when they pop up.
Also, on the Russo -LaPanta podcast, LaPanta said that something must have happened behind the scenes with Zach that caused management to reduce Parise's role. He said it may have been his public comments or something he said to them. They both said this will situation will come to a head and something will have to happen this summer.

It felt like a punishment for Parise this time. He needs to go someplace else.

The Wild have a depleted lineup tonight, but do the Blues, too?

How do the Wild rank in penalty kill? It seems like they get scored on all the time.

Well they're horse dooty tonight.

As a Minnesota sports fan, you wouldn't be blamed for thinking you've been watching the playoff-ready Wild these past two nights. :)

6 straight goals by Blues now.

Kahkonen is the new Darcy Kuemper. It's pretty obvious he will not give the Wild a chance to win in the playoffs.

7 straight goals and Wild with no shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the third.

Whatever confidence Khakonen had has pretty much been destroyed. Being stuck in their twice (both in St. Louis I believe) for games where the Wild have quit. I mean, sure he is your backup now, but if you had any hope of him being your goalie of the future that could be dead now. Whether he would've been that or not is another question.

Doesn't help when the goalie gives up weak goals, but have the Wild had a scoring chance since the first?

At this point I would gladly take Vegas over colorado.

As much as I want to face the Avs, because you're likely to go through them anyway, and see what they've got.

This team clearly would benefit from winning a playoff game or 2, and that seems much more likely against Vegas than Colorado.

Any team will have their hands full with the Blues in the playoffs. Avs should win but it will be a war where the Blues heavy game will make it tight.

Wild have a much better chance playing Vegas in round 1 anyway since they match up HORRIBLY against both Avs & Blues ☝️

At the beginning of the season I read that the West was considered the worst of the 4. It will be interesting to see how whoever comes out of the west fairs against the rest.

The Wild started 5 players from their B team or whatever it's called. Calm down these last 2 games meant nothing. Did anyone even predict them making the playoffs this year? If they play LV like they did during the regular season than they have a fair shot. That alone would be gravy to their pre-season outlook.

Agreed. Not going to lose too much sleep over last nights exhibition game. The 3rd pair defense last night was a -3, and those 2 guys won't see the ice unless there is an injury. My only slight concern from last night was the goalie. Early this year I would have said the KK was the goalie to protect in the draft, but now I think the Wild must protect Talbot and hope Seattle takes someone else.

I get the exhibition game theory, but Kahkonen was terrible last night. A goalie implosion a few days before the playoffs is not good for a team. It's also an emotional drain to be up 3 goals and then surrender 7 straight, not even registering a shot for the first 15 minutes of the third. That's Bad News Bears awful.

I've said it before: As a Minnesota fan you would be forgiven to accept the fate that your team will get mowed under in the playoffs like cannon fodder. How many times in the past 15-20 years have fans thought the Wild/Twins/Vikings actually had a legit team only to see the fantasy get ripped from their grasps? Remember that time when the Twins beat the Yankees in the playoffs? No, you don't. How about when the Vikings were the c**k of the walk after beating New Orleans in the Minneapolis Miracle? After a quick touchdown in Philly the following week, people were dancing in the streets. Then the Eagles scored 38 unanswered points . (The basketball franchise isn't even worth mentioning by name, as they make a habit out of losing at all times.)

Minnesota produces some fine regular season teams around here, but for the fans, there is no dessert.

The Wild in the end got what they & we as fans wanted, a round one matchup vs the Knights (NOT the Avs). Now it’s up to them to do something about it...to beat a team in a best of 7 series that they & we know they have the capability of doing. Will they? Who knows? But it should be an entertaining & compelling series nonetheless!

Hoping for a series win of course, but it's critical that the Wild show up strong and really push Las Vegas in this matchup. Talbot will need to step up and perhaps steal a game or two. If I had to spend my own money, I would say Vegas in 6 or 7, but looking forward to the post-season.

Rask is awful. He was able to blend enough and not be a liability when he could play with two skilled players, Kaprizov and Zuccarello but he has been awful without them.

Fiala has to waste shifts with Rask and Johansson. Tough to watch. But just the reality. Nice to know there is talent on the way.

If your team is in it, you only choose one player. Cannot choose a player from the other team. Thems the rules.

Awesome win in OT by the Wild! Ya had to figure it would take a deflection off a D to beat Fluery. He & Talbot were superb in goal!

I enjoyed the heck out of it. Give me a 1-0, 2-1 game with lots of great chances and saves at both ends over a 6-5 game.

After a shaky first I was worried, but what Vegas had in shot quantity, we certainly beat in quality after that. Talbot helped weather the storm in the first, and the wild made flower earn it in the 2nd and 3rd.

Great to win one on the road and be up 1-0!!

Normally I am overly complimentary of the goalie, to a fault. And we did give up a large shot volume. But man, I was impressed by our D today. Especially Brodin and Suter. Truly a Team shutout. Hartman has to be seeing some of those chances in his sleep, had 4 or 5 absolutely grade A chances and just couldn't buy a goal.

Well done Wild. Let's go!!!

The second half of the game was better but it still had the speed and physicality of a regular season game. Usually first round playoff games are a slugfest.

It’s irritating that the Wild have an 8:30 pm home playoff game.

Its better than the 9/9:30 start times we used to have to our playoff games versus Chicago. And that was the announced times, puck drop was often 15-20 minutes after that. I remember one game in particular had a puck drop around 9:50...

At least I can somewhat understand with the time change for Vegas. It made absolutely NO sense with 2 central time zone teams.

If he’s a mite or squirt, sure...but if he’s a 1st year PW or older, I don’t see the big deal staying up late to watch a playoff game, he can always head to bed when he gets too tired.

I have a squirt and a peewee and the peewee struggles to wake up if he goes to bed before 10 since he starts school an hour earlier than the squirt. The longer hockey/soccer practices this time of year don't help.

I don't expect them to schedule games around my schedule, but it would be nice if kids could watch the games. The Wild always seem to get the short end of the stick on start times.

Trust me, I have sympathy for your situation, I too have 2 sons who played in District 10...although they were 8 years apart in age. The youngest one attended the AA state title game at age 5 (in 03) and 13 years later was fortunate enough to play in the tourney at Xcel. Practice times don’t get better until they play HS hockey, although you probably already know that. My advice is enjoy these times with your boys, they are over in (what seems like) the blink of an eye...and you’ll long for these type of scheduling dilemmas. I certainly do now...that they’re 31 & 23 :biggrin2: Hoping the Wild can take down the Knights!

All the NHL cares about is televising the games so the most potential eyes see it & providing comprehensive North American coverage, not catering to any local market.
