Dutcher is 64. That will be used against him in recruiting.
I have an old teammate who should know something about Smith. Another buddy whose son may have been at Mayville at the same time as Smith being an AC.
Young Musselman? I wouldn't leave Fayetteville unless it was crazy $$$ & I don't see that happening. U of Arkansas has a NC & I don't think it is hard to borrow one of the Wal Mart corporate jets for a recruiting visit.

Gophers are trailing by 5 with 2 minutes left in the first half and Carr just got whistled for an ultra soft third foul. Like impossibly soft.

Carr has 3 fouls and 0 points.

This team is going to exceed my expectations. I thought they’d finish 2-2 and miss the NCAAs. They’re going to finish 0-4 and miss the NIT.

The Gophers end the season playing as the worst team in the conference losing 7 in a row and squandering a guaranteed NCAA appearance after their play through New Year's. They fall to 12th in the conference, have not only a conference losing record (again - Pitino's only had 1 winning conference record in 8 seasons), but an overall losing record (13-14) and end losing 4 in a row at home after having won 0 on the road.

A familiar late season spiral for Pitino teams as familiar as the poor shooting (though usually it's free throw shooting that is so poor, this season it was just "shooting").

I think we're one and done in the B1G tourney and moving truck is pulling up to the Pitino household.

I'd have to go back and look to be sure but weren't they 11-12 games above .500 in her first two seasons as coach? Not sure I'd call it beyond awful, though this season is certainly disappointing (I can't remember if they had any COVID Opt Outs or not).

What are the chances that:

1) You haven't watched a single minute of Gopher's women's basketball this season?
2) You know nothing about the current roster construction and its outlook?

Would 100% be accurate? You strike me as someone that would comment on the strib about her not being able to woo Bueckers.

I record and watch every single gopher event, got the DVR set for ncaa cross country championships on espnU next Monday because we have an athlete running, try again.

As far as current roster construction goes, she had to being in a girl from Roseau halfway through the season having run off her best returning player who won sixth player of the year in SEC. Bagwell-Katalinich and Sissoko are supposedly “impact” transfers, neither contributed much. Top recruit Alexia Smith regressed as the season went along, Hubbard and Powell are decent players but need much more help. Scalia can play but was abused by the veteran PG’s in the big ten this year. Merhson and Sconiers give nothing in the post.

You couldn’t have been more wrong in your assumptions.

Gophers survive and advance in a painfully ugly game. Finished the game on a 12-0 run.

Free throw shooting, which has surprisingly been a strong suit all year, was an absolute disaster. They were 10/24 at the line.

Obviously nowhere near as much as the men, but when the women are thriving pretty sure they have strong attendance. They're not going to let her overstay if she's ever deemed the wrong person for the job.

I think year 4 is a big deal. Do they fall further or do they return to at least .500.
If they don’t have a winning overall record that’s a problem.

Anyway, the men finally get a road win!

Referees letting OSU get away with murder on Carr every time he drives the lane. Three or four times now he's gotten bodied hard and no whistle. Meanwhile on the defensive end every contact seems to draw a whistle.

Edit: announcers were just saying the same thing. IIRC it's Bardo who said it's incredible he hasn't gotten that call.

Gophers trying to battle back here in the last ten minutes. Defense stepped up and offense was getting scores.
But OSU has now made 5 straight shots to extend the lead to 13.

I really hope Brandon Johnson sticks around next season regardless of what happens with the coaching situation.
He has been such a great addition.

Gophers turnovers right before halftime leading to points for the opponent has been a very frustrating trend the last couple weeks.

Kyle Young just throws an elbow right into Carr's jaw trying to defend him in the paint and the referees don't call it a foul live. And after replay don't call it a flagrant either.

Unreal. Tre Williams gets a flagrant for an inadvertent elbow on a layup and Young almost decapitates Carr and it's not a flagrant. 😳

How many years back do you have to go for 19 in state 4 stars?? I bet not that far, I doubt the state had that many from 1970-2000.

The massive amount of basketball talent this state produces is insane now.

I pulled that for Little Ricky's tenure as far as I recall. Like 2013 or 2014 through Chet Holmgren.

Wishing Pitino the best of luck if what we all think is about to happen will happen. Been here eight years and although his overall tenure here has been at best mediocre there were still some exciting moments. Perhaps my favorite is from my freshman year of college which also happened to be his first year coaching. Gophers beat Wisconsin in front of a packed Barn. Cherry on top was in the 2nd half when Austin Hollins throws down a windmill dunk and draws a foul. The place just absolutely exploded. It was a fun night to be in the student section.

We've been dealing with bad reffing the last couple years in the Big Ten. I'm frustrated there is no accountability for refs that make an impact on games week in and week out.

But with bball it's different because traveling is a black/white rule that doesn't seem to be enforced in the sport anymore.

Serious rumor that Pitino is interviewing for the New Mexico job today. I’m sure some plane tail watch group could confirm.

After some conference tournament upsets stealing a couple bids, the Big Ten gets 9 teams in.

Michigan and Illinois get #1 seeds (Gonzaga and Baylor the other two). Iowa and OSU get #2 seeds.
Sparty gets an 11, Rutgers and Maryland get a 10, Sconnie a 9, Purdue a 4.

Minnesota missed it by that much.

I assume if he gets a head coaching job elsewhere the Gophers would be free from his buyout, which may be why there is no official announcement yet on him being fired.

Yeah, that's why Mike Eaves coached at St. Olaf until his UW contract would have expired.

Yeah, that's why Mike Eaves coached at St. Olaf until his UW contract would have expired.
But Eaves was officially fired by Wisconsin wasn't he? So they owed him his contract minus the difference at whatever school he went to next.

If Pitino took another job before his contract was up, typically the school he'd be leaving for would owe Minnesota X amount of money. If he was fired before his contract expired the Gophers would owe him X amount of money.

My guess is that if he gets a job offer from another school, Coyle and the AD would waive whatever the buyout the school would typically pay since they were planning to fire him.
And then potentially chip in a few hundred thousand to Richard or something to offset the contract differences between what he was owed on the buyout and whatever he would make at the next school (assuming that is legal). Saves the U some money and more or less honors the buyout if he were to be fired.
