Just yet another reminder to not take recruits committing as set in stone.
He "committed" here less than a month ago

One time Gopher recruit Sam Jackson commits to Purdue.
This is his second decommitment from here. My guess Brohm is letting him play QB

If he is dead set on QB then he should go somewhere he can play the position. And I hope he gets his chance. At 5’10” (listed) height QB is long shot.gopherguy06 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10 8:41 pmOne time Gopher recruit Sam Jackson commits to Purdue.

Re: Gopher football 2020 season
Right if Purdue is going to do that, then great, try it out. I be he will end up as a WR still, but he’s a hell of an athlete. Fleck was honest with him and even said he would get a shot but doubt there is much room woth the QBs in front of him.Bertogliat wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10 9:58 pmIf he is dead set on QB the. I think Russel Wilson is pretty short, but still taller. It is possible, but the odds are against someone that short.

Correct, his dad played for Iowa (and in the NFL), which is why he was a heavy Iowa lean, but when Iowa's SC coach left, he wasn't interested as much.Beauner wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08 6:00 amBrother of Mark, I assume?gopherguy06 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06 6:46 pmBummer Joe Alt committed to NOtre Dame. Re: Gopher football 2020 season
Gopher defensive lineman Boye Mafe was number 5 on the list of athletic freaks in an article on The Athletic
Here’s a snippet:
Very few guys his size can jump the way the 6-4, 260-pounder can. His vertical is 40½ inches. That’s 4½ inches higher than any defensive lineman at the NFL combine this year. He can touch the top of the square on a basketball backboard.
Here’s a link but it’s behind a paywall

Re: Gopher football 2020 season
Gophers ranked 24th in "The Delite" preseason poll.
24. Minnesota
The Golden Gophers were one of college football’s true surprises in 2019, posting an 11-2 record with wins over two top 10-ranked opponents. It’s tough to imagine them having the same kind of success this time, especially with the loss of two great rushers and a slew of defensive standouts. However, P.J. Fleck has clearly taken the program to a new level and quarterback Tanner Morgan is ready to keep making his case as one of the Big Ten’s best passers. Winnable clashes against Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan are the toughest parts of their 2020 schedule.

Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
I think I mentioned it in the College football thread. With the uncertainty of the season happening on time (I wouldn't be surprised if they push it back a couple months or even delay until after the Super Bowl if we can't get this virus under control).
With the virus and the uncertainty around the season combined with the NFL stating they are not pushing the NFL Draft back regardless of what happens in CFB this season, a lot of high end guys are probably going to sit out.

Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
I don't see much of a season happen given it is August and based on the issues MLB has had already.
Sucks to lose him, but with the season in doubt, probably for the best. Not sure if how much it will help his stock in the draft. If there is a season, others will get a chance to get their stock up. He has done a lot in the two years, but was going to be on display this year.

Totally agree. I don't blame him but it does hurt to lose him. However, I'm not sure he would have ever played anyway because I just don't see how a season is going to exist.gopherguy06 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04 8:46 amI don't see much of a season happen given it is August and based on the issues MLB has had already.

Minnesota sports...
Of course, we won't know exactly what he's opted out of for a while. I respect the decision to opt out of fall football because the country is a $h!t show. But if the season happens in the spring and he still opted out and then goes to the NFL, ya, MN sports.

Two steps forward and one step back for Gopher football. (not one forward and two back).
Beat wisconsin
Finish above wisconsin in the standings

This makes more sense with some of the context others have provided, which means the Gophers won't be the only program to lose high-end players before it's all said and done. Good luck to him he will be missed. Would love to see him in Purple!

So they took away non conference games only to add in an ADDITIONAL B1G game? They usually only play 9 conference games. I don't get the logic on adding a game.

Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
Assuming no fans, wouldn't a home game actually cost more money than make more money?davescharf wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05 9:58 amIt's probably because it allows all schools a 5th home game and the revenue associated with it.Bertogliat wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05 9:42 amSo they took away non conference games only to add in an ADDITIONAL B1G game? They usually only play 9 conference games. I don't get the logic on adding a game.
Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
This feels like the week we knew college hockey was getting canceled and it did.
In an email to season ticket holders the U states:
Based on recommendations from local health officials and guidelines in place on the state and local levels, there will be a drastic reduction in the number of spectators permitted to attend Gopher sporting events this fall. Current guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health specify that venues must reduce occupant capacity to no more than 1,500 (outdoor venues) patrons. With this reduction, we anticipate few spectators or no spectators at all at TCF Bank Stadium. Our staff is committed to working closely with government officials to monitor guidelines and adjust policies as needed.
Due to these realities, Gopher Athletics is taking the following steps to ensure its ability to adjust to the changing circumstances around COVID-19. Remaining nimble in our ability to modify the game day experience will lead to the safest and quickest return to athletics events with fans in the stands.
If fans are permitted to attend home football games at TCF Bank Stadium, a limited number of tickets may be distributed on an individual, game-by-game basis.
There will be no football season tickets. Your status as a season ticket holder remains unchanged, and your season ticket location will be retained for the 2021 season.
There will be no season ticket upgrade or adjustment process for the 2020 football season. Seat upgrades and change requests will take place prior to the 2021 season.
Gifts made after November 1, 2019 will continue to provide current year Gopher Score points through the 2021-22 athletics season.

Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
You’re stating that the college hockey season has been cancelled. I don’t disagree that is likely, but the E-mail you quote doesn’t even mention hockey.
Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
No I meant this week for football feels like the week last college hockey season got cancelled. You just feel it's inevitable but aren't sure when, and then things snowball really quickly. I'm sure it'll take longer for football, though, because $$$.

Okay. Your wording was a little confusing. But I guess I don’t disagree.
Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
Didn't take too long. Probably canceled or postponed tomorrow.

Big Ten to cancel the 2020 season. Apparently to be officially announced on Tuesday. Vote was 12-2 to cancel with Iowa & Nebraska voting against cancelling the season.

The NFL has to be thinking $$$ right now....Butters Stotch wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10 12:15 pmBig Ten to cancel the 2020 season. Apparently to be officially announced on Tuesday. Vote was 12-2 to cancel with Iowa & Nebraska voting against cancelling the season.
Put all your players in city-specific bubbles, play games like the NHL so only one going on at a time and do it on Saturdays and Sundays, with your typical Monday night game and Thursday night game. Throw a Friday night game on also.
They don't need fans to be rolling in $$$ this way.

Too bad we're likely 1 year away from finding out if their path is still on the rise.
Currently under construction.

Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
I read that article yesterday. Good look and what a national perspective is of the program. What got me were the comments. I’d say 80% were Wisconsin fans that were butthurt that Minnesota got attention. A lot of responses like “yeah we beat you last year” to no one in particular.

Gophers received their first 2022 commitment today in DE Trey Bixby. He's a 4 star DE and a solid pick up. For those that follow recruiting, he's the son of former GI analyst and Kyle Goblirsch

Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
Gophers ranked 19 in the AP preseason poll. Going to be tough to improve that this year.

Re: Gopher Football 2020 Season
Bummer as RS freshman Curtis Dunlap will transfer. Former IMG OL and 4 star recruit. I believe he started in twelve games last season.
