Re: NHL 2019-20 season
Corey Pronman farm system rankings are coming out. He had Clayton Phillips at No. 10 for Pitt in 2018, but not on the list going into this year.
https://theathletic.com/446764/2018/08/ ... -penguins/
"Phillips is a great skater, one of the best in college hockey, and has the skill to make plays. I don’t love his decision making and overall hockey sense though."
Probably still true!
Penn St. forward Nikita Pavlychev is on the list at No. 10 this year.
https://theathletic.com/1128904/2019/08 ... -penguins/
Rem Pitlick showed up on Nashville's list at No. 6 as a 'legit NHL prospect,' not sure why his size always gets brought up as he's a bit of a tank at 5'10" and 200 lbs.

Based on the body of work the last season and a half Phillips on that list still would have been ridiculous.

No he's not. Journalists need more than one source but none of the sources need be named. I guarantee everyone who has been quoted as unnamed has been dual sourced.
Fenton deserves everything he is getting.

You don't have any sources if they're not named. Your guarantee is worthless. Fenton deserving it or not has nothing to do with it.

Not sure if you're actually serious with that take, but yes, most journalists do in fact name the person that they are quoting. I understand that there are situations where you won't be able to get people to go on the record, but then you can't quote them. Russo got lazy and someone called him on it.ScoobyDoo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16 3:21 pmIf the paper only quoted named sources it would be blank. Re: NHL 2019-20 season
I don't see the difference between attributing it to an unnamed source and just paraphrasing and reporting it anyway. Same thing. As Russo told Fenton a thousand times when he blew up at his employees about leaks, Russo ultimately got the information from someone outside the Wild organization.
Ultimately I would guess most things that are insider information are sourced but not named. Why? Because these people want to keep their jobs.

In Russo's article about Fenton he quotes unnamed sources 17 times. He quotes an actual person 0 times. I'm not saying it isn't true, and I'm certainly not saying that Fenton doesn't deserve to get roasted, but that doesn't make it good writing/reporting. Russo has become just like his buddy Souhan where he now thinks that he's part of the story.

Re: NHL 2019-20 season
That's not lazy journalism, that's protecting sources. Stories like this frequently don't have anyone willing to be quoted, so what do you do, not say anything if nobody is willing to go on the record? One unnamed source is, in all but the rarest of situations, not something you can do a story from. But, if you've got multiple people all saying the same thing about an environment where any story that comes out sets the GM in question to raging about leaks... are you surprised that nobody is willing to be named as a source?

I'm not surprise that there were people that were not willing to be quoted in this story. There are also multiple chances to have actual quotes and he failed at every opportunity. You can't insinuate that Zucker and Staal both told you something and then not have a direct quote. Where is the Leipold quote pertaining to Fenton wanting to fire Boudreau?

Re: NHL 2019-20 season
The owner himself said all that was need to be said by firing the goof. He also hired said goof. As far as people willing to be quoted directly, there is a reason there are whistleblower laws to protect people in certain situations. The owner and organization are moving on from Fenton, maybe Wild fans should follow suit. It was an abysmal hire and thankfully for all involved with the Wild, it's over.

This article about Bill Guerin being interviewed a second time cites "sources" without naming them as well. Russo should be drawn and quartered for writing it. Feel free like I am to post links to any NHL article that cites sources without naming them. Maybe we can change what happens every single day.

Was just watching NHL top 10 goaltenders right now on the NHL network. Ben Bishop #3. Dallas got him for a 4th round pick in 2017. Too bad the Wild couldn’t have made a better offer.

I guess when they signed Dubnyk to a six year deal they handcuffed themselves to a mediocre goalie with no hope of upgrading.Bertogliat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21 10:55 pmWouldn’t the Wild then have $9M in goaltenders?Grovetown Scotty wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21 5:00 pmWas just watching NHL top 10 goaltenders right now on the NHL network. The way your first post laid it out is to simple and misleading. Not saying that it was intentional but there is more to consider.Grovetown Scotty wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22 7:28 amI guess when they signed Dubnyk to a six year deal they handcuffed themselves to a mediocre goalie with no hope of upgrading.Bertogliat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21 10:55 pmWouldn’t the Wild then have $9M in goaltenders?Grovetown Scotty wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21 5:00 pmWas just watching NHL top 10 goaltenders right now on the NHL network. Ben Bishop #3. Dallas got him for a 4th round pick in 2017. Too bad the Wild couldn’t have made a better offer.
Bishop was traded at the deadline of that year from Tampa to LA Kings. Bishop would be a free agent at the conclusion of that season 2017. Tampa wouldn’t be able to resign him so they moved him and there was also expansion draft to consider. Tampa got a pretty good return for him from the Kings.
At the conclusion of the 2017 season the The Kings traded him to Dallas with an expiring contract. The Stars were signing a free agent and getting a one month head start to sign him before he hit the market. They weren’t signing Bishop with a contract and term in place. Because he is the guy and got a nice contract a deal was done.
If that same scenario were to take place for the Wild we would have had to offer more than a 4th round pick. And I highly doubt Bishop signs with the Wild knowing there were places where he would be the sole #1 and get a better deal since the Wild already had Dubnyk locked in.

I would say with the addition of Pavelski the Stars might be the best team in the Western Conference.

Tampa in the east over Toronto, and in the west I will take Vegas over Nashville. I will go with Vegas to win the Cup

Good. If Dallas is in it I don't have to watch it. Didn't watch it last year either. Saves time.Grovetown Scotty wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30 5:32 amPreseason Stanley cup final predictions anyone?

Blues have basically the same team, upgrading Edmundson to Faulk. They should be a top four team in the west for sure.

If Binnington posts a .927 save percentage for sure.
If he drops below, say, .920. They will be another team.
Re: NHL 2019-20 season
Righhhtttttttt
.920 would be 11th in goalies that started more than 10 games last year lmao

Yeah having a drop from a .927 to sub .920 wouldn’t hurt at all.

Re: NHL 2019-20 season
Most projections I've seen have the Blues in the top 4 of the west and in one case #1.
Actually this tweet averages them all out and has them just barely behind Vegas for 2nd in the west.
<GophDogFan> yep, so sad... you have a new moment, when your uncle gets mad because you got the best of him. the last straw was when i told him that UND's hockey program is like crystal pepsi: Nobody every liked it.

4-3 in the first between TOR and TBL with all the superstars getting in on the action. Nice to dream of having one of those guys in MN.

Calgary and Winnipeg playing an outdoor game, in Saskatchewan, in October. It’s snowing too, so it doesn’t look like it’s too early in the season.

He's lucky they're just suing to recover. Unless they've changed the rules recently, that can you get jailed in Nevada.gopher6 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06 8:53 amSharks Kane sued by Vegas casino for not paying back 500k gambling credit

IF they are hellbent on making a run with the old core, they should be on the horn. He could get this current team in the playoffs.Greyeagle wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20 6:18 pmWonder if the Wild will make a move?YoungEagle wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20 3:40 pmLeafs fire Babcock.......
