The big hurdle in this was getting the players and others to agree on the format ($). The rest is logistics. I have to think if the NHL gets going before the other major sports leagues they will get a huge increase in interest from nontraditional fans. People are bored and starved for sports.

Why is it not reasonable to just end this season as is and put the efforts into trying to resume a more “normal” season this fall and just suffice with an * by stats from 2020?

He comes out of the lineup until he doesn't have it.

No matter how much effort they put into next season they don’t call the shots.

Cancel this season and what if they start in October and in late 2020 or next winter we have to do the Pony Show all over again? And they are out two seasons.

I don’t blame them one bit for trying to figure this out and salvage the year.

Having said that this will be much closer to an exhibition than it will be a Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Totally agree that there will be no intensity at all. It will be teams going through the motions with a minimal amount of physical play. Kind of like the regular season.
I see it as maybe a 20% chance of happening.
You know as soon as things start to open up this summer the 2nd wave in the fall drumbeat will begin. People are going to say the hell with it.
Slip and fall lawyers are licking their chops as we speak.

How about because of the global pandemic we are deep in the midst of?

I want hockey and sports back as bad as anyone. In my opinion there is still too much of a risk and the season would be nearing an end by now anyway had it continued. Cut the losses and focus on how to have a safe upcoming season, if that becomes possible.

You think playing a hockey game in an empty arena is anywhere close to being as dangerous to a global pandemic as having the drive thru at Mcdonalds being open?

There’s a lot more logistics that would go into keeping everyone safe than just a few dozen people in an arena at one point in time.
And yes, I think everything we do in public is still just as dangerous as it was two months ago. We just hopefully have the resources now to not die should we become ill.

It’s all about money from the TV deal. They don’t show a Stanley Cup, they lose a ton. Every sport is trying their best to finish a season so they can still recoup some of the revenue.

So if the NHL comes back, which would provide some welcome entertainment (baseball is boring so don't care about that), I guess NHL TV is the best option to watch as many games as possible? Chicago vs. Edmonton sounds sick.

I don't need to see the Wild, which would be blacked out, and if I needed to watch one of their games sure I could find a stream.

At $25 a month, I can't think of a better streaming option since I don't have anything else to watch live.

“We voted strictly on the format,” Dubnyk said. “In other words, ‘If we are to come back, this is how it’s going to be played.’ But we have not even touched on logistics or cities or travel or testing or how the economics will work or what this quarantine bubble (the players are) supposed to live in will be like or any of that stuff yet.

“Nothing else has been voted on … yet.”

Chartered team bus from the Wild facility to the airport
Board the private team jet without ever stepping foot in the airport
Fly to whichever "hub City" the NHL decides on
Get off private jet and board chartered team bus
go directly to 5 star hotel that will most likely be exclusive to the NHL teams
Chartered bus or private driver to anywhere you might actually have to go while in the "hub city"
All meals would obviously be catered.

Other than the chance of an extended time away for the teams that actually win, this isn't any different than any road trip an NHL team takes.

In the Athletic, Russo said that Kaprizov’s side said that is not the case. But he also noted they are hopeful there is still a shot at him playing this year.

If the season does resume and he ultimately can’t play as it looks now the Wild can hopefully try and loan him to the KHL until the 2020-2021 season begins. However no guarantees on that because of the relationship between the two leagues.

He absolutely should be able to play. And the NHL should be all for it. Why would you keep a potential great player from your league now and because a result of not letting him play also next year?

This is going to be nothing but an exhibition anyway.

Congrats to Dean. By all accounts the guy breaths fire and intensity. But doesn’t just run around as a hot head, has a very measured approach.

Fenton’s guy is now the HC and his blockbuster trade Fiala for Granlund has given the Wild Star Winger potential. And the Wild’s prospect pool is looking extremely good.

I like Leipold’s passion to invest in this club but he botched that entire process.

Kudos to Guerin for putting his ego aside and hiring the guy that the previous GM was trying to hire and also what was a pretty public deal.

Evason is very established. But yes he doesn’t have a HC track record.

I like it because you never know when you could have a GEM. Give him a shot and see what happens. You can always go the established HC route.

The team was playing faster and more up tempo since...

And he made their best forward what the PP and offense was built around. Smart move.

Not sure but Gopher might be asking how the NHL will allow him to be under contract for this year but won’t allow him to play.

In regards to your response, yes I think the Wild just want him over here ASAP and available to play next year. Fans and the org have been following this kid for years now and I can’t see the Wild not making every effort to ensure he is on the ice in 20-21.

Sounds like if he is signed he can come over and skate with the team and travel during this Summer reboot.

Correct free agent after 20-21. But restricted free agent. So the Wild will have to pony up a new contract. What is interesting is that he will have one year of NHL service to go off of so I cant see it being a crazy contract. Now if he comes in and lights the world on fire I suppose you never know.

Great to hear we have him for at least a few years. We've waited a long time and I am excited what he can do in this league.

Also, I don't hear too much about Alexander Khovanov, but he was 2nd in scoring in the QMJHL last year. And IIRC he was one of the top prospects out of Russia for a while until he went through some illnesses/injuries. I am hoping to see him in the NHL next year as long as he's back and scoring!

I thought I read that Khovanov had or was going to sign with the KHL next season so he could get a full year in since there is uncertainty around the AHL and the very short NHL training camps in November. I honesty can't remember where I read that, but that is what I recall.

Russo has reported that. Khovanov will be in the KHL because he wouldn't make the NHL roster, and there's no guarantee of an AHL season. So by playing in Russia, he gets a full season, then can join our NHL roster after that season if we're still playing over here. Better for his development to play.

They ended their season in March right around when the NHL shut down. They however were in the middle of the playoffs. Not sure how they did it it but the awarded gold silver and bronze I believe maybe based on Reuther season. So their 2019-2020 season is in the books and they will start 2020-2021 on time. Could be very much like what we are seeing, no fans but I don’t know.

So for Khovanov it makes a lot of sense to let him go over to the KHL when they wrap up in March the NHL will still have quite a bit of season left based on the delayed start.

I'm not placing all of this possible loss on his shoulders, but Galchenyuk has been especially awful tonight.

Buckle up for game 4.

Meanwhile in Chicago.....
