Or if you have nothing get the puck deep.
That's a turnover
Analytically better than any turnover at either blueline correct?
I’m not sure if this is general discussion or still about Fiala?

But Fiala wasn’t turning pucks over at the blue line. He was making them while trying to make plays (passes) in the O zone.

I wish I could find what I was looking for but alas... the Blues were one of the best team winning puck battles on dump and chase plays.

Also Mike Gillis did an interview with Chorske this summer where he basically said the reason they decided to put the Sedins with Burrows was because he was their best player at winning picks back for them. Wasn’t probably who they would have wanted to play with, but he made them more productive.

Found what I was looking for on the flip side of zone entries :-o

Top defensive team in goals against last year were the Islanders, 2.39 GAPG.
Top dump in rate as a team were the Islanders, 57.2%.
Islanders 2nd for neutral zone turnovers at just 8.9%.
Islanders 1st for goals against on the rush, 31.
Islanders were 4th for dump-in recovery rate, 8th in producing scoring chances off dump-ins.

Blues were 2.72 GAPG (t6), 52.8% (11th), 7.9% (1st), 47 GA (5th). If you don't have the skill to create on the rush, then you better figure out how to attack the offensive zone with speed to win the puck back. Chicago cited in this clip as a team that dumped the puck in the least... they scored a ton on the rush, but also gave up a ton. Robin Lehner is in Chicago... it'll be a different year for him.

Mike Kelly brought up another point about how the Blues were so successful with the dump-in hockey that it possibly increased their efficiency for outlet passes, stretch passes and zone exits coverted into zone entry because other teams were probably game planning their puck retrival habits and not neutral zone habits to deny entries.

Weird, it's opening night but this is the least excited for a wild season as I've ever been..I guess the twins have something to do with it, but I got no juice for tonight like usual

Nice post Vegoe.

There is an art to dumping the puck in. Chip it by a defender, cross ice dump, or ringing the boards. The goal obviously to make the d-men turn to retrieve the puck and pressure to gain possession, or turn the puck over with your forecheck.

I don’t know what the percentages are but most odd man rushes are on neutral zone turnovers and failing to do the above.

It will be interesting to see how Granland plays tonight.
He’s skating 2nd line with Duchene and on the 2nd PP.

I'm hoping for .500. If they can stay .500 through this stretch they'll be in really good shape.

My kid is pretty jacked about Dubnyk’s save. He is also a goalie and wears #40 whenever he can so he is a bit biased.

Fiala carries it through the NZ, chipped it in, was first on puck, pushed it further down then win a battle below the goal line and finally worked the puck to the point. It was a great play.

Maybe Nashville is jacked up but I don't see much to get excited about. Zucker is about the only vet forward doing anything. Kids are MIA. If not for defense that can shoot this score would be 4-0 instead of 4-2.

You can’t expect not (or be shocked to lose) to lose to a team that’s superior and has your number, but this is how this season is going to go for the Wild, 83-87 points.

6 straight for Nashville over Minnesota. That streak not likely to end soon.

Parise Staal Zucc line is -3 and has been pretty much invisible the whole game.
Funny that your detractors disappear during games when they could be showcasing their allegedly superior hockey knowledge. :biggrin2:
Maybe Nashville is jacked up but I don't see much to get excited about. Zucker is about the only vet forward doing anything. Kids are MIA. If not for defense that can shoot this score would be 4-0 instead of 4-2.
You can’t expect not (or be shocked to lose) to lose to a team that’s superior and has your number, but this is how this season is going to go for the Wild, 83-87 points.
If that's true with all the vets they have on long term deals they're done for a long long time.

Zucker is the LEAST of the problems for the Wild....at least he’s getting scoring chances...how bout the rest of the pretenders (up front)? :conf2:

Why invoke the Blues here? It won’t end well.

So, thoughts on the Wild?

Oh, by the sounds of it, the next decade. This is the first time I’ve really read this thread in months - it’s kinda like a soap opera. You can watch one episode every few months and the story line really hasn’t changed at all. 😆

Can’t understand why Boudreau kept the Parise, Staal, Zuccarello together for the whole game. Thought he might shake things up after totally getting outplayed for the first two periods. Dubnyk kept us in the game for two periods and we go into the 3rd with the lead only to melt down.

Nashville obviously a much better team.

I hope Ryan Carter is just nervous in the broadcast booth. His first 5 minutes sounded like someone that should be doing broadcasting for Bemidji State.

3-2 AVs. If the Wild hadn't taken half the first period off they'd be leading.

Need to get the Staal line going and stay out of the penalty box. Soucy has looked pretty good. Big bruiser with a long reach.

I swear the Wild lead the league in having high sticks missed.
