Oh man, that's a bummer for Delano.
They ran out of gas. The better team won. Hope they can give Warroad a good game.

Heres a legit question, if people are so against the private schools being in one league or another, why not have an all private school league? Does that exist for other sports here? We had that in Wisconsin for football and basketball and worked well enough, the private schools were good competition for one another but would get destroyed if they were with the public schools. Though we dont have A, AA stuff either
There used to be a private school league until the 1970s. THe legislature required the MSHSL admit them back then.

Today, there would be a concern that expelling them would lead to a New England-style Prep School situation. I don't think that is a good scenario either.

My personal solution would be to put private schools in their own section. If there are 8 private schools in a class, they are all in the same section.
There are 10 private schools in AA, although there are a few (Minnehaha, Duluth Marshall) that you don't really need to account for. 7 in A.

Huh? The other 3 quarterfinals were (predictable) blowouts...but Delano vs Mahtomedi was an exciting game. And the semifinals & final will be terrific ☝️🤠

Pretty sure Minnehaha got pushed up this year against their wishes. Duluth Marshall chooses to be in AA to avoid the Hermantown section. You could very easily drop Minnehaha back to A and make a section of 9 privates in AA and 8 in class A. QED.

I know I'm not a native and didnt grow up with this, but I dig both A and AA, hell I just enjoy the games in general, I get a kick out of seeing how the state comes together for the excitement of it all.
Exactly. For these kids, just getting there is an experience of a lifetime. I used to skate on my backyard rink in EGF and pretend I was scoring on a penalty shot in OT in the championship...over and over again. The small towns also have the best overall support I feel like. The entire school gets out of school to go to the games (we did) and most everything shuts down. Listen to Tom Serratore’s interview about Greenway last year. It’s a big deal.
You dreamed of scoring the goal in OT, must have been a great game!

I wonder if any kids dream of scoring on the penalty shot in the third up 8-1?

:D

I dreamed of knocking off Bloomington Jefferson In a Section Game in those all time classic Baby Blue Unis.

Got the chance to do it one year when they were #2 in State. It was glorious, we were a 4 seed.

I used to type out the bracket (pre-printer days) including the 3rd place and consolation brackets and update each game as the tournament progressed. Did that for several years and they're in a box somewhere in my parent's basement that I'm sure they want to throw out. :)

Yeah, cuz their recruiting and finagling Mack back onto the roster is so much better than what Hermantown does. (And I'm no fan of H-town's shenanigans)

This has been one heck of a game, but if Blake closes this one out their skill will have been the difference maker in the end.

I'll fully own wearing my Maple Grove glasses, but it's too bad that game was impacted so much by that absolute phantom slash call with 3 mins left. With that much on the line in a tie game that late, I would hope you would ensure it was a legit penalty.

The trend of logos/lettering with the same color as the jersey can’t end soon enough.

I shouldn’t say trend, but don’t have logos with same color as the background.

I'm not sure how you can use the word "clearly" on that, but if that is the standard for slashing I'd tell my team to keep one hand off your stick at all times and drop it when anyone gets near you. The fact that you need slow motion to see he even makes contact with the other player's stick tells the story. I think Lou has seen a few games and he sure didn't like it.

Ask the ref that made the call on the ice what they saw. If MG gained possession there and scored while a Blake player is chasing his stick knocked out of his hands? It was a borderline call without question but that's often the case.

There seems to be a lot of empty seats for the games this afternoon. Have they announced the attendance yet?

I’m not there so I can’t comment on actual attendance. I do know that many people try to get out if there’s a blowout in the second game of the morning to get someplace to drink/eat. Those restaurants fill quickly. I already got a message that my family left and where to meet them to go to the night sessions.

I hearer 17k and some change. But behind the net empties out as the fans from the 1st game don’t have access to both games.

And then they have students in the upper deck which is just stupid.

He clearly slashed the stick out of the hand.

If it makes you feel better, that play was also pretty blatant interference.

Ask the ref that made the call on the ice what they saw. If MG gained possession there and scored while a Blake player is chasing his stick knocked out of his hands? It was a borderline call without question but that's often the case.
Yeah I get that - it's certainly not the most egregious call I've seen, I just want consistency. In the 1st a MG player is splitting the D on his way to being alone on goal and gets both hooked and held and no call...which if fine if you're going to let them play and decide it has to be blatant trips and hits to the head...but then...

Yeah that was a bold strategy, although pretty tough to score when you’re up against 6 goalies. Not a lot of net to shoot at. Congrats to STA.

Duh... Didnt think of that. Dont have one for my phone. But I turned my TV into my second screen for the laptop and put the browser over there and when full screen. Just a little laggy now.

Thanks for the idea!

STA goalie from Massachusetts, who played Omaha AAA and a couple games for the Lancers last year was asked, “What brought you to the Twin Cities/ STA”. Replies with, “no comment”. Haha

They do/did the same thing at Mariucci for the 2AA & 6AA Section finals, which is pretty tacky☝️

I know STA beat Duluth East in the quarters last year, but tonight is the best game I've seen them play in "AA". Uni question: is the STA "road" set darker than in years past? I thought they were always more of a royal blue and these looked much more navy.

HM is really putting the wood to Moorhead. I would just not want to play them in the quarters. I know they've lost in the few appearances (2015, 2017 & 2018), but still. Lechner is very solid behind the bench.
