I don't blame you, it's hard to fathom us beating anyone by more on the road...win the game and stay healthy are my goals for Saturday

They have a term for it. It’s called an emotional hedge. If your team doesn’t win, you still win money.

It’s the only sports gambling I do. And my buddy is going to place a bet for me in Iowa this week. So I am in on Rutgers.

Ok, 6 wins and the thrill of bowl practices!!! Here's what I think could happen going forward:

We get to spend the holidays in detroilet again IF:
we lose out

We get a nice mid level bowl game IF:
7-8 wins (think independence/red box/holiday bowl type game)

We get a really nice warm weather Florida type New Year's Day or close to that IF:
9-10 wins (think citrus/outback/tax slayer in Orlando/tampa/Jacksonville :dup:

We get to go to the Rose Bowl IF:
Win the west and lose the BIG Championship Game

We get to go the the Playoff IF:
Win out, beating then undefeated Pedo St, a good Iowa team, an undefeated Becky and an undefeated Ohio State team

Good stuff to dream about............

Maybe I don't follow how the betting works but can someone explain? You are saying MN will win but by less than 28.5?

Yes. By betting Rutgers +28.5, he's betting that Rutgers will win outright or will lose by 28 points or less. If Minnesota wins by 29 points or more, he loses the bet.

For everything but Rutgers winning outright, which would suck, but beat them a ton and you lose, but still happy. Or win by less than 29 and you win money and Gophers still win.

Clearly, Leidner is not chucking the ball any longer. That being said, I'm not really trying to bash him, just remembering that quite a few of his throws were "interesting".

I have to think it is smart to do this, even if we are not a pass heavy team or complete a lot of these passes. Helps push those DB's back allowing us to run for more yards, which is obviously our bread and butter.

Granted it was against Purdue, Illinois and Nebraska, the offense has shown it is more than one dimensional. Against Purdue, threw for over 400 as they sold out to stop the run. Then ran for more than 300, IIRC, against the last two. If they stack the box, Morgan has proven he can effectively throw and have three legit targets in Bell, bateman and Johnson. Plus 3 solid RBs to boot. Been fun to watch.

Agreed, the offense is stacked with talent at every position, as long as the line gets a push (I’d say this was more of a problem earlier in the year) they’re hard to stop and multifaceted.

Hopefully the D can play up to their opponents, I think that’s the biggest question going forward especially as the quality of opponent increases.

Obviously, the opponents and the talent they have will continue to get tougher, especially in November, but will be a good test for the D which has improved.

Anyone else worried about this game? I've been a fan far too long not to be :) and this is the perfect set up for Gopherish trap game:

I just can't shake the "horrible opponent on the road that they should kick the hell out of but they've had some nice wins and starting to get some national publicity so it's time to lay an egg because that's what I've been conditioned to type of game" feeling.

I think the "Rutgers championship week" mentality will help prevent that. PJ looks big picture and he knows what a loss will do to this team/fan base. I worry more that we have "that one game" and it's the only game Rutgers plays well. I am hoping for sconnie to overlook Illinois for tOSU though!!

💯

There is no way this game should be even remotely close. So there is a 90% chance it is within a field goal all game.

I was going to say no until I remembered the games vs GA southern and SDSU. The team does seem to be improving though so hopefully that trend continues and they beat the crap out of another bad team like they have the last couple weeks.

Same.. I hope they can get the 1st team some rest and some younger players some experience.

Rutgers looks historically bad. Like passed for 1 yard last week (QB was 5/5) and averaging like 1.7 pts. in their Big Ten Games this season.

I guess we're way too old to not fret at least a bit. I can't get an Air Wacker-esque defensive performance out of my head.

Hey don't get me wrong I am all for a MN rout and expect it but deep in the pit of my stomach it's like I've seen this movie before....

I was at the MN-PU 56-51 (?) game, it was pinball.
Wacker will always have a warm place in my heart, his '93 team singlehandedly prevented the BADgers from sniffing a NC. God bless him for that!

Wasn't it Joe Salem who said the Metrodome will be "the palace of college football."?

Just in case he's lurking.....Hi Bruce.

I was at that game sitting in the end zone where the Badger kicker badly missed 3 field goals in the second half.

You knew going to a game you were going to be entertained. They couldn’t stop a high school offense but they could put up some points.

And as the band used to say one of the best things about Gopher football back then was “you got to spend your Saturday nights rooting for a guy named Wacker”

I just want them to run the ball down Rutgers throat, early and often. Physically pound them.

Yep, establish dominance at the line of scrimmage and our backs should be able to run wild.

According to Btn.com, Gophers are on main BTN channel and Maryland vs. Indiana are on alternate.
If DirecTV, 610 for Gophers 610-1 for other.

My guide says MD vs IN on both so who knows.

I’m recording on both BTN and BTN alternate just to be safe. We’re at the Dells for MEA (also why we weren’t at the hockey game).

While I don’t think he got it, that camera angle from the field level is two or three yards ahead of the sticks and looking back.

Hahaha. They miss a TD solely because Morgan overthrew it. They call the exact same thing the next play and it works. That's more like the a Rutgers defense I've been hearing about.

Alright, not our best half...I know I know alabama would be up 50-0, whatever

just accomplish the 2 goals...win #7 (by less than 28.5 for the emotional hedgers) and stay healthy....

Get the ball to start the 2nd half. Come out and score right away and take the wind out of their sails

Morgan is not playing well today...his 10/22 is better than it should be because the receivers are bailing him out on some just awful passes. The first sign of pressure he is panicking...

Of course I highly doubt we pass this much in the second half. If we do I am going to be scratching my head.

Well it wasn't pretty, but unlike previous teams they didn't given anything away. In years past this would have been a 3 point halftime lead not 14. Gophers get the ball the start the 2nd half too.

This is very true. We played pretty mediocre and still have a 2 score lead and get the ball.

The question becomes what does Rutgers do? My guess is there wont be many opportunities for Morgan to make a mistake so does Rutgers sell out and play to stop the run or do they play the 2 deep zone like they did on the last drive? That seems to be what they are built for but they havent been able to stop the run without having a safety in the box so I am not sure they want to do that.

So since I have Rutgers +28.5...lets get a pick 6 here and then just sit on it the rest of the game ;)
