Gophers move to #9 in both polls, WI is #13 in AP.
I've never seen a team ranked so high and higher than their opponents get such little love from Vegas and sports analysts. To be a 4pt. dog at home as the #9 team is a bit surprising. I thought it'd be a push. All that to say, I don't care, none of that decides the W's and L's but it is interesting.

I’d rather be the underdog in this game. Play with a chip.

You have to remember, Vegas sets a betting line to try and get equal action on both sides. Wisconsin is a more nationally known brand because of their success the last few decades. The real information comes from if the line moves and what direction. Plus on who is placing the bets. Whether it’s the public who goes off of the name recognition or the professionals who go off analytics. That info comes later in the week.

BTW the Gophers moved up to 9 in both the AP and coaches poll.

And I was wrong...Gophers open as 4 point dogs. Man I wish I was in Vegas...

I am sure PJ is making it a point to not let the team know ;)

edit: PJ said Tanner starting practicing on Wednesday...crazy it never leaked.

The weather forecast has me the most nervous. I think on a fair day the Gophers have the advantage; specifically in the passing game. If the weather is inclement I think that helps WI by limiting our WRs.
President GWB said, "And it seems like Minnesota is pretty good at hockey, too."

"I think in the best interest of his career, he definitely would benefit from playing one more year of college," Gretzky said.

Lets worry about the weather come Friday.... Because there is zero chance that a prediction will be accurate almost a week out.

I wouldn’t say zero. A lot of the time I’ll look at what it shows a week out and then the forecast will change multiple times and end up being correct on what it said a week out.

My point was that it’s not looking like it will be game changing blizzard conditions for Sat.

So the correct forecast a week out is not a “good” forecast? What color is the sky in your world?

Sagarin has Wisconsin by 7 so the Vegas line is matched up pretty good. (as it tends to be)

If I was in Vegas I would definitely jump on it though. :)

We should be big fans of Ohio state vs the ugly helmets if we beat Bucky...if Michigan wins the big champ game turns from winner goes to the playoff to a rose bowl qualifier...I guess a 1 loss Ohio state big champion could get in if they lost to mich then beat us...

Michigan is playing as well as anyone in the country right now

I saw one site saying penn st would get the Rose bowl bid over Bucky if wisc wins and loses to oh st

Top QB (via passing yards), third RB and only two wideouts over 1k in the B1G.

Solid offense this year and. Very young offense.

I have not seen a Gopher team like this one. The Mason Years they were often good at one thing and mediocre at others. (usually running but 99 defense was the best part of the team) This team plays solid D and has an offense that can kill you any way you let them.
During the Northwestern game I kept saying... I have never seen a Gophers football team like this. Their wide outs are so good getting off the line of scrimmage and breaking open into their routes. Even when DBs are trying to take away slants, they're able to get open. I think the defense can be pretty darn good, can't wait to see what they come up with on Saturday to stop the BADgers run game. I don't think Bucky can hold the Gophers under 20 points, so should be a fun one.

I know the forecast can change quite a bit between now and Saturday, considering high temps are predicted to be above freezing, but Weather Underground is showing 4" Friday and 4" Saturday. Could be interesting.

No matter what happens Saturday (well, excluding a complete embarasssment I suppose) - this has been the best and most exciting season of Gopher football in most of our lifetimes. So, quick reminder, let's not fall into our MN sports shell and lament what could have been should things not go as hoped. Let's instead focus on the 10 things that went extraordinarly well for the first time in decades and be happy.

That said, we're going to win.

Isn't it better for me now since my hedge is on the BADgers to win? So if it went from - 3 to - 2 that seems better?
Yes, if the 1 - 1.5 pts impacts your feelings. The spread has narrowed meaning MN has to lose by fewer poitns for your to lose.

The thought of beating Penn State was part fantasy part reality. This game is winnable and maybe the biggest Gopher football game in over 50 years.
IF...the Gophers offense plays like it did against PSU and the D creates a turnover or two like they did against PSU...then there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Gophers will beat the BADgers. ☝️And this is the biggest game the Gophers will play in...in 50+ years. Can’t imagine how sweet it will be...postgame after they beat BadgersSUCK! :biggrin2:

Depends how you plan to hedge. I can never bet on Sconnie to win so I would have never hedged this one anyways but if I had to I would have picked the Gophers with the points instead of the Gophs to win outright ;) Low spreads make it tougher for me. Now that it is 2 it stinks of a sucker bet either way and the weather isnt helping.

I like the Gophers running game but I can’t put them ahead of Bucky. The snow will be an equalizer for the passing advantage the Gophers have. I don’t like the point spread for the Gophers.

The field has heating coils under the turf so I would think any snow would melt pretty quickly.

I am just going to bet on the result. If I bet on the -2.5 spread the Gophers lost by 2 I would just be more pissed.

Right now at Bovada which is the only site I ever did a bet on if I bet 100 on the BADgers to win I win 74. I guess it's better than nothing.

Edit: JK. Bovada doesn't accept my CC anymore. Oh well, not gonna go through the bitcoin hassle.

IF the weather is bad enough, that ball is good for one play. Inclement weather means the ground-n-pound offense is the way to go.

If the field is slick with snow or rain that can be an advantage for a passing offense as a WR is aware of their routes and the defense has to react. I am sure the equipment team is going to be prepared for keeping balls dry. I really think the keys will be Minnesota's run defense, their pass protection and special teams.

Despite his tweet after the PSU game I say no to Flair. Pretty sure he's repped Sconny and Georgia on Game Day already.
Currently under construction.

Feels like this game is for a trip to Pasadena or Tampa. Either the Rose Bowl (as floor) or Outback. With 3 10 win teams and us losing at year end (if we lose) it feels like PSU gets back ahead of us in the playoff rankings:

OSU - CFP
PSU - Rose
WI - Citrus (we’ve been there in this contract period already)
MN - Outback

All of those are awesome, so no shame in the Outback Bowl if it happens, but we need to win Saturday.

Seems like snow forecasts are increasing by the hour. I have heard forecasts for tonight at 6-9” and as high as 10-13” and we can expect another foot Fri/Sat.

I am starting to worry I’ll be able to make the Gophers game.

If we are gonna get the dumping of snow that is being predicted, then yeah, make it an old fashioned ground pound game of running. Advantage Gophers because we have the Hydra Crew each with more versatile styles of running. Wisconsin already relies heavily on Taylor, and I'm sure he will have some success, but he wont be able to run like he has clean turf.

Tanner excels at the short pass game, he has the high football IQ to make smart decisions. Dink and dunk them to death. Eat up the clock. Wisconsin passing is subject, and the conditions could make their passing game null, but they will have to throw, make em pay for trying to air it out.

All that said, if we are headed to a Snowmageddon game, I say it is a slow scoring bloodbath, just like the golden days.

National Weather Service says 2-4 on Friday and doesnt have a number yet for Saturday just snow and rain. Weather Underground isnt what it used to be so I will stick with the NWS for now.

(even the Weather Terrorists at The Weather Channel say 1-3 Friday and Saturday and they almost always overestimate)

That said anyone who is going should definitely leave early and expect lots of delays.

As for the game double Cephus and keep as many near the LOS as you can. On offense take what they give you. (this is if footing is bad) We dont need style points just a victory.
