Yeah Kramer and Clark are about 6-7 games behind and were likely going to get some time with the new rules.

I forgot that Morgan came in later on last year, that makes me slightly less worried.

I've read this story before....the last time he ended up leaving Minnesota for Florida when he couldn't get his starting job back after an injury.

With the stable of RB's and a good OL, they will be just fine with Morgan. It also now gives Morgan time to work exclusively with the 1st team and a good core of WR's.

Sounded like an internal organ type injury scare last year. This is different, "Towards the end of practice yesterday, Zack suffered a non-contact injury. Zack threw the ball and felt a pop in his foot."Bertogliat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05 10:23 amWhat was Annexstad's injury last year? I can't remember and I an curious if it is related.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
Morgan managed games very well and he won, but he had some arm strength limitations that don't often get corrected by off season training. I like him as a player but I saw Annexstad as the QB with higher upside.
A quote from Star Tribune, "Fleck declined to say which foot Annexstad injured but did say this was a “freak” injury that’s a similar case to only one or two players he has coached in his time."

Re: Gopher Football 2019
Yeah, I think ZA had more upside based on the limited what we saw and a reason he was the starter early. Tanner did a great job i the BH of the season and the bowl game, so hopefully he can continue to develop as I am thinking ZA is out for the whole season, despite having surgery already.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
ZA isnt known for his arm strength either. Honestly Clark is the only one who seems to be consistent at the deep throws and my guess is he is the backup come SDSU.Bertogliat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05 10:38 amMorgan managed games very well and he won, but he had some arm strength limitations that don't often get corrected by off season training. It would be easy to just make an announcement after practice. I appreciate that he puts thought and effort into making this special moment even sweeter.

For those of you whining about the price of Gopher Hockey tickets, please avoid yourselves the trek into Gophersports.com for football tickets.
I just purchased 2 chairback seats (lower level corner-ish) Good, but not fantastic seats, for $150 + fees each. The best seats are going for $250....each
Third party sites may eventually sell them for cheaper, but not now.

Which game(s)? I bought third row, 200 level, corner near students for homecoming vs Illinois for $55 + fees each. Non-con was even cheaper.Bertogliat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12 5:12 pmFor those of you whining about the price of Gopher Hockey tickets, please avoid yourselves the trek into Gophersports.com for football tickets.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
Trying to find out if these might carry over to hockey this year.... I'm guessing it would be based on success... but these are concepts they're exploring to reward people for coming early. Provides better atmosphere in the venue and alleviates some of the major problems at the UMN with parking/traffic to get in the building.

I really like these ideas as well...it feels like they are finally trying to address the issues at hand without completely ignoring the season ticket holder base. Some of the options are working already, as the flash sale and the Red Baron promotions had pretty quick response.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
The only issue I have is the Red Baron games seemed worse than they were last year...but there is probably reasons behind that.
I just got an email from Fan Relations asking if I wanted to change my mind and renew. (or get a package) I am not doing it, but I wont lie it was kind of nice even if it was an obvious form email. The U has always had issues with how they treat their customer base...and reaching out more often to engage (even at low bar levels like that) can help to fix the narrative a bit. You dont have to offer the world, hell you dont even really need to offer anything, but if you find ways to make it feel like you actual value your fans and make them feel a part of something you can shift the results a bit.
Not everything will work, and many of the fixes are short term but they are something and the more the try the better the chances they will work.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
The only other issue I am seeing after looking up available tickets for Thursday night's game...there are plenty of seats still available in the upper levels of the sidelines - the seat license areas. There has got to be a way to offer up some more deals on those available seats, at least the top 5 rows or something like that. There are still plenty of tickets available in those locations. Perhaps another flash deal...$20 for those seats. Will they even consider something like that? Offer a State Fair Special? BOGO?

Re: Gopher Football 2019
I think going forward maybe though probably not much for this season. I think they are still using these things as feelers to see what will be successful. I doubt they figured they would sell 7k in the Flash Sale.
The more people take advantage of stuff like this, the more they will put out there. The U needs to see that if the price becomes attractive, the tickets will be sold. (see also: hockey)

Yeah I dont have much confidence in Brooks to be honest. I think they are hopeful he will play but are less confident than they are letting on. Gut feeling is over/under 3 games he plays.

Yeah, I think I have heard he is practicing, but non-contact. Rodney and Mo will be the go to to start and maybe get Shannon back in Oct/Nov with limited action.

I don't think I heard for sure but has Fleck pulled the plug on Annexstad for this season?

I don't think it has been confirmed officially, but more or less what everyone is saying. Let's hope Morgan can stay healthy all season (can't recall the last season where we haven't had more than one start), as having Clark/Kramer as QB2 is going to be rough.

I couldn't quite remember if Fleck confirmed it on his appearance with PA the other day at the Fair or not. I know that I've enjoyed throwing barbs at ZA but I would rather see him succeed than fail and I hope this injury is something he can come back from. Besides I like the stories like ZA's instead of all the media hype around Martinez, Fields, or Patterson.gopherguy06 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28 9:31 amI don't think it has been confirmed officially, but more or less what everyone is saying. He didn't seem too positive about his odds of playing this season when he was on with JG a week or two ago.g-manpuck wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28 9:35 amI couldn't quite remember if Fleck confirmed it on his appearance with PA the other day at the Fair or not. I'm anxious to see how the defense performs this year. If that side of the ball stays healthy, I'm pretty optimistic about their chances of successful.
Hoping the offensive line gels quickly. Thinking that is the biggest concern, especially with a young quarterbacking crew.

I'm kinda in the same boat, we'll see if it continues to look as good as it did towards the end of the year or regresses a bit.Butters Stotch wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28 12:02 pmI'm anxious to see how the defense performs this year. Re: Gopher Football 2019
I'm not really too concerned about the OL unless big injuries hit them. All five starters played quite a bit last season, just hope they stay healthy and reading up on how much biometric data the team is collecting makes me think soft tissue injuries shouldn't be a problem. Fleck also avoids the thunderdome like practice atmosphere so the players won't bang heads much in practice which is a good thing to me. Rest is weapon as long as you're still sharp and lethal. The RPO, the running back depth and the receiver depth give me hope.Butters Stotch wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28 12:02 pmI'm anxious to see how the defense performs this year. Still have some concerns on the other side of the ball as the secondary and defensive line were rough spots last year in their losses. Coaches want to keep the scheme simple enough for the players to understand, but complex and varied enough so that the other team doesn't know how to pick you apart right away.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
They return 18 or 19 starters and get back 1 or 2 very good RBs to add to the very solid RB play from Ibrahim and Williams after Brooks and Smith went down. Don't know if the D will get any better, but I would think returning what they do and with more time spent with the new DC there are reasons to be optimistic. The schedule is also pretty favorable. Not saying they'll win the west but I'd be really disappointed with less than 7 wins before the bowl game.
Currently under construction.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
They booted the defensive coordinator after the awful start where simple running plays were going for long TDs. Once the RB got into the backfield there was nobody there to tackle him.Vegoe wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28 1:06 pmI'm not really too concerned about the OL unless big injuries hit them. Replacing the DC resulted in immediate positive results, as we know. I am hoping this was a sign of things to come and not something other teams will be able to easily pick apart now that they have some game film on the new scheme.

Re: Gopher Football 2019
I honestly think Mo is the best RB on the team. I am glad Smith and Brooks are back but something about the way Mo ran last year was just so impressive. reminded me a bit of David Cobb and MBIII.

And the Cam Wiley hype train is high right now, so hoping he can redshirt (maybe plan the 4 games limit) and then come back with Mo next year!

Re: Gopher Football 2019
The stream is now on FS1’s site for streaming and it’s decent right now but it started super shaky with a ton of lag. With BTN I thought you could at least adjust the streaming quality if there was lag but for a while there it was like a UAA stream

Not a huge fan of the QB draw play or the WR screen but easy to say in hindsight.

Decent job moving the ball but stalled out at the 36.decided to punt, which I wasn't a huge fan of.
Defense gave up a chunk of yards on a reverse trick play, but settled down and forced a punt.
Ease your mind, have a banana or two.

Jacks' jerseys and helmets especially, look awesome.
Their defense is looking good too.
Gophers' gold jersey is OK, but if their maroon jersey has as much white on it as the gold jersey has maroon it'll be hideous.

True, Bateman bailed us out with that one play but I’m not complaining. Nice that this team actually has talent for once.
Glad we went for it too, that was the right decision regardless of the result.
