Looks like they're losing the JuCo CB that they flipped from Kentucky on signing day. Jahmile Addae was the position coach when he signed, but then left for West Virginia where he's an alum shortly after signing day. Wonder if it's playing time or coaching staff turnover that influenced him.

I think it is crazy that coaches and can leave whenever they want, but the transfers and players have to jump through hoops to move somewhere else and play. Sucks to lose him, especially in the defensive backfield where we are thin.

I know he wasn't happy about the coach leaving shortly after he signed, but why go through Spring Ball? Maybe he didn't see the PT he wanted.

That just doesn’t get old. I am optimistic that it won’t be such an irregularity in the future.
President GWB said, "And it seems like Minnesota is pretty good at hockey, too."

"I think in the best interest of his career, he definitely would benefit from playing one more year of college," Gretzky said.

Yeah, I think they removed the field in the last couple weeks as the United aren't playing there anymore.

Went back to grab three more for people at work but only two left. Guessing they just got them in today so they're wiped out at my local store.

The reproduced game programs, pictures, and other stuff inside the book are AMAZING.

Is there a list of "recent decommits" the article referred to?

I look on rivals from time to time to keep up on commitments, but I don't hear much about decommits.

DT CJ West decommitted, but may still come
Winonna's DE Aaron Witt
LB commit Juwan Mitchell will head to Texas now and become a 2019 recruit.

Also:
2019 JUCO safety Gervarrius Owens from his NLI, and now Owens will head to Houston.
USC WR transfer decided not to come.

Not sure if there are others, but they are kids opening their recruitment. It happened last year and a kid still came here. It is just a verbal in most cases.

The decommit thing is a bit of a misnomer. Fleck (and apparently a lot of coaches) will tell a kid that if he has made a commitment then he can't go on other recruiting visits unless the recruit "decommits" to the school. This doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to come here but it does tell the coaches that they can go out and try to recruit somebody better while they are decommitted.

Yeah...which has gotten him criticized because some fans (and some lazy media types) dont know what he means when he says it. They act like he wont accept them if they look elsewhere which isnt the truth he just says if you are still looking he doesnt want them committed. If a spot is still open and they decide they want it they can always take the spot.

I am not going to get excited about commits anymore because it seems a third of them end up changing their mind. (all over the country) I mean it is nice and all but a lot can change before 2020.

Even beyond signing and showing up to campus is another thing. The commits are somehting for people to talk about during the offseason, like the rankings of the class and what not.

Yeah but that stuff is BS too. The U and Fleck love to tout their class ranking but always ignore the fact that when the classes end up signing the class rank ends up back in the range it always does. Right now our rank is high because we have like 35000000 commits and a lot of the bigger schools are slow playing it.

I get it, it is a positive story for the U which is good but it is still BS.

If all of these guys sign though, it is going to be a heckuva class :)

Whether or not each guy ends up on campus and makes the starting lineup, people can still get excited about the quality of players being recruited.

While you can say they rank high because they have more commits than other schools, I'll add that pre-Fleck there would usually just be a handful of guys committed with mostly MAC offers. Right now their recruit floor is way higher than it's ever been. The worst recruits in the 2020 class are rated higher than the mid-level recruits under previous staffs. And the previous staff home run recruits never panned out, while it looks like Bateman and Faalele are headed in the right direction.

This is before Lewis-OL 85.39, Keys-DE 84.65, Saad-DL 84.65, Dubar-DB 85.32, Brown-Ath 88.16 and Jackson-WR 90.19 committed--which should boost the 85.95 average up a little more.

It's probably not going to quite be top 25 nationally at the end of the year quite yet--but the quality is getting better every year.

Not only that, but quite a few of the committed players are considered raw talents, so if successfully coached up, they will out perform their "rankings"

Oh it is absolutely true which is why I dont really rip Fleck for it as much as the Pay Sites and some of the super fans. I have zero complaints about Fleck's recruiting even if he isnt my style. He is able to get people who have little to no business even looking at us do so and he gets them to commit which is cool. Problem is since they cant sign it can get dicey.

I am glad for it all, I just am not going to do backflips until they can sign on the dotted line. :)

It is a college football issue not a Gopher issue. De-committing is happening every day all over the place.

First foray into seeing how fans react to a mobile ticketing package: https://gophersports.com/news/2019/7/8/ ... 99-96.aspx

I'd wager we will see something similar for hockey.

If Gopher hockey does this it will tempt some people since it's basically an SRO ticket with a seat when available, and there will plenty of available seats this year. So essentially it'd be a season ticket for probably like 450, and you'll only have to worry about standing for the Whioux series and maybe one or two other games.

I could see them doing this and keeping single game SRO dead for this year.

It is a smart play, and it is a good way to get new people to buy in. I doubt many STH will "downgrade" to it but if you are going to go to enough games to make it worthwhile it is a good idea. (for football) Hockey fans will still whine like 5 year olds about the price and ignore that areas that are cheaper (or the options like this if it comes about) because it doesnt jibe with their temper tantrums. ;)

The hockey program wouldn't want to throw these people in better sections than the 500 dollar sections. And if they say the 500 area is full you have to stand people will just walk over and sit in the empty seats in the better sections. So I'd say less than a 50 percent chance we see something very similar for hockey this year.

Bruce Feldman’s 2019 college football Freaks List

11. Daniel Faalele, Minnesota, offensive tackle
The humongous sophomore from Australia comes it at 6-9, 400 pounds. He has 275 pounds of lean mass, which is more lean mass than most football players weigh — including most of the guys he’s tasked with blocking. Faalele bench pressed 391 pounds this offseason. He hang cleans 375 and squats 570, but it’s his movement at that size that is eye-opening stuff. He vertical jumps 29 inches, who for someone 300 pounds would be really good. For someone 400 pounds … well, we’ll get to that in a minute. He broad jumped 8-7. Same deal as it relates to what an athletic 300-pound NFL prospect would do.

For more context, consider this: Faalale’s vertical jump would have tied for 14th best among the 57 offensive linemen at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine.

Now consider this: Dontari Poe was one of the all-time Combine freaks after he ran a 4.98 40 while weighing in at 346 pounds. He vertical jumped 29.5 inches and broad jumped 8-9. Faalele is more than 50 pounds heavier, and his vertical is just a half-inch less and he’s two inches behind on the broad jump. Trent Brown, who just signed a $66 million contract with the Raiders after starting at left tackle for the Super Bowl-winning Patriots, trimmed down to 355 on his 6-8 1/2 frame for the Combine had a 28-inch vertical and did 8-10 in the broad.

It's amazing how young this team is going to be even after aging most of the returning players another year. They still have very key spots taken by seniors. If they come into this season without getting ahead of themselves they could be a pretty solid team. Not conference champion solid yet but competitive and fun to watch.

Did anyone else see the Tweets about ESPN's college football analytics predicting the Gophers as West champs, playing Michigan in the championship game?

Of course, predictive analytics are about as valuable as a steamy pile of dog $h!t.

Some are predicting the Gophers to win the West and others to bomb out (which I do not see). I can't wait to see which come to fruition and pick apart the idiots in December.

With everyone returning, including some monster RBs, I just can't see a crap season. Hopefully it doesn't come from tons of injuries and lack of depth.

Ah I see we are in this part of the "Mason Cycle". Seems ahead of schedule a bit but works for me ;)

Part 1: Team is reported to not be good...half the fan base is up in arms the rest say "See this team is going nowhere"
Part 2: Team wins a few games early...half the fans get super excited and the other half say "call me when we play the Big Ten games"
Part 3: Team wins a game it shouldnt/wasnt expected to...half the fans get even more excited to the point of making bold predictions other half start saying "Keep winning or else!"
Part 4: Team loses a game it shouldnt/wasnt expected to...half the fans say it is no big deal other half quit on the team saying "see they were never good and never go anywhere"
Part 5: Team qualifies for a bowl...half the fan base thinks they got jobbed on their placement other half says "who cares bowl games are worthless unless it is a NYD Bowl"
Part 6: Team wins or loses...fans of both sides sandbag and either get juiced up for next year or call for the coach to be fired. (win/loss doesnt really change the outcome of how the fans feel)

Rinse...repeat :)

If people are that all over the place as to who is going to win the West it's a good year for the Gophers to do it.

So, do it. Then crush whoever comes out of the East and put a stamp on the program forever.

A lot of their sucess will be dependent on the defensive side of the ball. I'm thinking a 7-5 record and a 4th place finish in the West.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ble-season

B10 West is going to be fun... anyone could win it I think outside of the Fighting Lovies. Northwestern a good value to hit over 6 and of course the Gophers over 7.5. I like the under on Wisconsin as their crossover games are Michigan, Michigan St. and at Ohio State. They also have to play at Nebraska and Minnesota in November. I'd like it a lot more if it was under 8.5.

Nebraska Cornhuskers
Over 8½ -160
Under 8½ +140

Wisconsin BADgers SUCK
Over 8 -120
Under 8 +100

Iowa Hawkeyes
Over 7½ -110
Under 7½ -110

Minnesota Golden Gophers
Over 7½ -140
Under 7½ +120

Purdue Boilermakers
Over 7 +100
Under 7 -120

Northwestern Wildcats
Over 6 -110
Under 6 -110

Illinois Fighting Illini
Over 4½ +100
Under 4½ -120

QB play was imo the biggest question mark as to our success and now it’s (potentially, idk the injury) even less deep. Hopefully it’s short term.

We have 3 scholarship QBs on the roster not including Annexsted. Not that it means anything, but we shouldn’t be any worse off than last season.

Seeing as Annexstad wasnt in the Purdue, Wisconsin or the Bowl Game I am not sure this changes anything. It wasnt like he was a 3 year starter he is a true sophomore who played half the games last year. He wasnt even guaranteed to be the starter this season.

If we have to get to our 3rd stringer we are likely screwed anyways so I am not too worried about that.

We also have wildcat specialist green for emergency...I love that package in short yardage and goal line/red zone...he's not a great thrower but it gives us another emergency option with experience
