2017 Fantasy Football Discussion

Post by Beauner » Tue Sep 05 8:14 pm

I just had my keeper league draft last night. It's kind of a modified Keeper/Dynasty where we keep 4 guys (more than your standard 1-2 keeper league, but not a dynasty where you keep almost your whole team).
My 4 keepers were Leveon Bell, Antonio Brown, AJ Green, and Keenan Allen (kept Allen over Doug Baldwin because it's a PPR league and when healthy Allen is a PPR beast). We start 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 flex (WR/RB/TE), a K and DST.
I drafted 7th out of 10 based on last season's standings, with it being a keeper league the top 5 picks were basically the top rookie RBs (Fournette, McCaffrey, Mixon, Cook, Kareem Hunt) then Baldwin went 6th which bummed me out cuz I was hoping he'd fall back to me.
Ended up going with Isaiah Crowell, Rob Kelley, Larry Fitzgerald, Adrian Peterson (I figured at that point I had no choice but take a flyer on him, I didn't really like the WR options), Jameis Winston, Tyler Eifert, Jordan Matthews, Delanie Walker (insurance for the always-injured Eifert), Terrance West (couldn't pass on a starting RB in round 14), got Mike Williams (Chargers #7 overall draft pick - figured if he stays healthy he's a potential keeper because he can be a beast), got the Jags defense in rd 16, then Robby Anderson (the #1 WR for a team that will be throwing the ball 600 times this year because they'll be losing every game), and then Blair Walsh as my K.

I feel strangely good about my draft. I normally hate my drafts.

I would have kept Baldwin - that said, you have a pretty solid team.

I joined a money league, finally. I think I drafted (auction) a decent team, leaning heavier on WR.

Starters
QB: Derek Carr/Matthew Stafford
RB: Kareem Hunt
RB: Ameer Abdullah/Adrian Peterson
WR: Jordy Nelson
WR: Brandin Cooks
TE: Martellus Bennett
FLX: DeAndre Hopkins/Tyreek Hill/Jeremy Maclin
K: Matt Prater
DEF: Patriots

Some backups:
LaGarrette Blount
Marvin Jones
Alvin Kamara

Really like Kareem Hunt this year. Have him in both of my leagues. Chris Carson is a player to watch out for. Rookie RB for Seattle that has been impressive in practice and preseason games. Rawls has some injury issues and I'm not a big Lacy fan.

Yeah that was a tough choice. It came down more to the fact that I really don't trust Russell Wilson to consistently target him all that much. Whereas Rivers has shown time and again that he loves Allen. He had like 6 catches in 3 drives before he blew out his ACL last year.

I'm in 3 leagues, have him in all 3. I think he's going to be good, and KC always seems to have a good running game with whatever back they find.

I drafted him in a late round in my work league (draft was before Ware got hurt). Now I look super smrt.

I got him in round nine of a 14 team league, which was a good pick even before the Ware injury. I also picked up Chris Hogan right after the Edelman injury, which is nice cuz in a 14 team league there are no legit FAs.

I picked him in my keeper league (rookie only draft) later in round 1. In the other 2 I picked after the Ware injury, in the auction I paid $32 ($200 budget), and in the snake draft I think I got him in the 5th or 6th round.

I took Jameis Winston with my 5th round pick, and Dez Bryant with my 9th. People at the draft scoffed. WHO'S LAUGHING NOW, CHUCKLENUTS?!?

Guys in our league had Mike Gillislee and Tyrek Hill on their benches yesterday. Yes, I sent text messages to them last night to give them grief about it.

Zeke Elliott won an injunction today against the NFL so some are saying he will likely be available to play all season

Really liking my Zeke pick in the 3rd round. Davonte Freeman and Zeke Elliot should be pretty comfortably the best RB tandem in the league.

I had to choose to franchise him or Antonio Brown. I chose Zeke because I got a really good offer for Brown

Good thing our draft is tomorrow. Maximum information .

Draft day is one of my top 5 days of the year (along with the day we leave for the Madison trip). I played on a softball team for 20+ years. We split up about 4 years ago. 8 of the 10 in this league played on the softball team.

18 holes at Edinburgh, followed by the draft in someone's garage with pizza and beer (like our post game parties). So many laughs with great old friends and dominating the draft.

If you have the Rams defense in fantasy this weekend you're probably doing well.
Jacksonville defense did quite well for my keeper league today. 10 sacks, a TD, and 4 turnovers.

My team:

QB: Dak Prescott
RB: Devonta Freeman
RB: Carlos Hyde
WR: Dez Bryant
TE: Rob Gronkowski
K: Mason Crosby
DEF: Seattle
IDP: JJ Watt

I got FREAKING CRUSHED today. 57 total points from that lineup. Good Lord 'n' butter.

In my money league I have the highest score in the league by 50 points, still have 1 player left to go, and I left 70 points on the bench in just 3 players. Might have a good team.

My RB trios (start 2, 1 backup) in my 2 leagues are:
Kareem Hunt, Leonard Fournette, Mike Gillislee
Kareem Hunt, Adrian Peterson, Ameer Abdullah (also have LaGarrette Blount sitting on the bench)

The first one looks much better, IMO, but in the second one I paired these guys with Jordy Nelson, Brandin Cooks, DeAndre Hopkins and Tyreek Hill.

Hunt is definitely the reason why I'm going 2-0 this week. My sleeper TE Austin Hooper had a big day. Only two catches but 126 yards and a TD was big.

I was able to get Elliott for cheap in my auction league. Happy to have him and Hunt as my RBs as long as Elliott's suspension is delayed until next season.

Ditto. I already had the win but he helped me feel very good about the squad.

He is a good one, he is a threat all over the field. Hopefully he will stay healthy.

He put my team in my work league up by 110 points tonight. My opponent does have the Denver defense to try to make up for the deficit 😂

Went 2-1 this week. The team I lost I got a combined -3 points from one WR, my TE, and defense. Yuck.

Have wins locked up in 2 leagues. Have a lead in the 3rd, with each of us having a player to go yet tonight.

Overall, a much worse week for me, scores down across the board, but still will be able to squeak out wins. The Jordy Nelson injury torpedoed my team in one league, that one wouldn't have been close if I would have just gotten average production from him.

If he hadn't dropped a couple balls that hit him in the hands he'd probably have 220 yards already.

I could really go for a Kareem Hunt touchdown right now. Followed by some Carr garbage time touchdown action.

Hope nobody else had the misfortune of playing against a team featuring Zeke, Dak, and Dez. They put up almost 65 points against me in a relatively lower scoring league (20 yards/pt rushing/receiving, 40 yards/pt passing, 4 pts passing TD, half pt/reception).

I doubt he will. And the longer he fights it, the more likely it is that he'll be ineligible for fantasy football playoffs.

This is a weird season for me. I’m going to be 7-3 after tonight (we have a doubleheader before bye weeks get going so we can have the championship in week 16) and I have lost since going 1-1 in week 3.

The weird thing about it is that I really don’t feel I have a great team. Im horribly thin at WR and I’m getting by with my 2nd RB slot. Besides Russell Wilson and Zeke I’m getting a ton of points from Justin Tucker and the Jaguars defense while just hoping to get a good game from 1-2 other guys.

All that said I’ve still got the 2nd best PPG average in the league. The years I’ve won I’ve had much better teams so it’s kist odd

Had a weird one this week. Had a ~6pt lead going into last night. My opponent had Detroit's defense left. So he takes the lead early with the blocked FG and Green Bay's offense slowly chipped away at that number. The un-timed final down resulting in the GB garbage of all garbage touchdowns left us in a 92.1-92.1 tie.  The tiebreaker in our league is bench points. He had me killed in bench points but it was still listing me as the winner. Well, when it broke the score down to 2 decimal points I had won 91.08-91.06  Don't think I've ever played a game that close before!

Also, the guy I beat was previously undefeated, what a heart-breaker!

Guy in my league has Julio Jones and Antonio Brown. They combined for 81 points in our league...the rest of his team (8 guys) scored 52 points. The guy he’s playing has 84 points for the week.

I'm real glad that game didn't go into overtime. I was facing Big Ben and Bell and I only won by 4 points. If that goes into OT, I'm screwed.

My other league is starting to get ridiculous on how I face the top point scorer each week (well besides me). Luckily I am 8-4 and in the playoffs. The league averages 91 points per week. On the season, my opponent has average 112 points. It's only going to go up this week as they put up 140 points so far and still have Deandre Hopkins playing tomorrow.

My work league team featuring Kareem Hunt, Demarco Murray, Devonta Freeman, Ty Montgomery, Diggs, Marvin Jones, and Jarvis Landry has lost 6 of 7 games after starting 4-0.
So I've got that going for me.

I had one of those years a couple years back. I had the 2nd highest point total in the league but in my case I missed the playoffs due to having an average ‘points against’ that was 15 points higher than the next team

This year I’m 10-3 but still need a little help tonight or a win next week to clinch the #2 seed. That would be nice as I’d only need to win one game in the playoffs without Zeke

Best record in the league by 2 games, first round of the playoffs and Kamara out halfway thru the first quarter....

I have to squeak by this week in the first round to hopefully get Aaron Rodgers back for round 2, which also gives me Jordy Nelson. I want a strong GB team that doesn’t make the playoffs.

I bitched about this to my work league commissioner for three years about changing it. Each year we did the two-week semi finals (week 14-15) and then 2 week finals (16-17). Each year I ended up leading the chip after week 16 only to lose in 17 because my good players sat out so I had to play guys like Bennie Cunningham.

He finally changed it this season and my team misses the playoffs.

My keeper league team, on the other hand, got a first round bye for taking 2nd and lead the league in scoring by almost 200 points.

I remember one year I had Peyton and the Colts were so good I had to start Alex Smith in the finals in week 16. Fortunately I won.

I have a bye this week so I only need to get through one week without Zeke. I did pickup Doug Martin and Christian Mccaffery at the trade deadline which helps and it actually didn’t cost me a ton to get them as insurance.

I am in 3 leagues this year and ended up 1st, 2nd and 5th (12 team leagues). Glad I made the playoffs in every league but have to make the championship game to make some money. Haven't won a championship in like 15 years. Plenty of regular season titles and second place finishes, but just cant seem to close it out.

A few years back I lost on an offensive pass interference call against Demaryius Thomas. It was late in the 4th quarter and I needed like 15 yards to win and thought I had it after the catch. Then I saw the flag and couldn't believe it. Stupid refs...

It's ESPN. They have a vested interest in driving activity to their site all 17 weeks of the season, not just the first 16. Not only the activity that's directly the FF league lineups/checking scores/etc, but going through the site for stats, news, injury reports and so on.

Plus.... it's just ESPN, they do dumb things a lot.

I'm really glad I won last week to end our regular season. Not only did I clinch a bye as the #2 seed, but the guy I beat got bumped down to the #6 seed. This is the guy that has Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Tyreek Hill, and Alshon Jeffrey as his 4 starting WRs. He's been up and down all year but as good as my team has been I want nothing to do with those 4 WRs on his team in a playoff game.

My league has 2 week combined playoff games. Never done this before. Last week the combination of his good fortune and my multiple injuries (Woods, Kamara, Cooper) and suspensions (Gronk and SmShu) killed me. I started this week down by 65 but the combo of Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt tonight has me down by 8 heading into tomorrow's games...crazy.
