Rumor on the street is that one of the best pitchers on the staff for the Gophers has a significant shoulder injury, likely a torn labrum. Heard he can't even raise his hand above shoulder height.

Damn, that's not going to help... Do these wounds even heal? I mean, of course, he's going to be able to use his hand, but will it be enough to play?

Great, that's good to hear. I'm always afraid of these wounds, because you never know whether you'll be able to fully recover or not...

Based on my experience it's the parents of Club Team members who end up paying the expenses of road trips and the national team tournaments.

Softball team up 2-0 on Northwestern in the B1G semifinals. Hope Brandner with a 2 run bomb in the top of the 1st and Amber Fiser with 3 K in the bottom. Winner plays Michigan.

Gopher softball gets the #7 national seed and will host their first home regional since 2014 this weekend.

If they can advance they will host their first home Super Regional for a trip to the College World Series the following weekend.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like this team doesn't quite have the same punch as the team a couple years ago that lost @ Alabama. They are still very good, obviously, but I guess I didn't expect them to get a top 8 seed. Seems like this could have been a bit of a makeup for them getting screwed a couple years back. Especially with Michigan getting a #15 seed with a better overall record and a win over the Gophers in the BTTG yesterday (I figured if the Gophers won they'd be a top 8 seed but assumed they'd drop to 10-12 with their loss).

Edit: I just looked it up and I guess the Gophers had the #8 SOS in the nation. So I guess it makes more sense now.

Either way, would he great to see them host a super regional. They open up against NDSU.

Plus they were on the road for most if not all of the best non-conference games.

Is softball different from baseball regionals? Baseball is double-elimination and it looks like softball is a straight bracket?

Does it follow the baseball model of double-elim first weekend and best 2 of 3 the second weekend?

Potentially have to get 3 games in today. Drake vs Georgia and the 1 or 2 game finale. Weather could make that a challenge, but plus for the Gophers to get a team that has to win 3 in a row as a triple header.

Just checked weather.com and it's supposed to rain pretty much the whole day, at least until early evening. If that turns out to be true will they postpone the games they can't get in and play tomorrow?

#7 Minnesota will host the Super Regional against #10 LSU next weekend. Tough sled having to take out two SEC's foes two weekends in a row. It would be so awesome if they could make it through to the series. Fiser is amazing. Hard to believe the excellent pitching the Gophers have had over their rise to prominence from Sarah Moulton, to now Fiser. Piper Martin (pitching coach, my daughter had many clinics with her) is an amazing coach.

Interesting to look at the results. 15 of 16 top seeds advance from their regional without a loss. The last top seed (#15) Michigan is in the 2nd game against James Madison to see who advances. Is home field that big of an advantage?

If so, hopefully that plays well for the Gophers this next weekend. Would be so cool if they could get past the Super Regional.

I'm not surprised the home (top) seeds advanced, just surprised that 15 of 16 didn't lose a single game. Especially in the double-digit seeds. Heck, I'm surprised Georgia didn't beat the Gophers once.

I'm not surprised the home (top) seeds advanced, just surprised that 15 of 16 didn't lose a single game. Especially in the double-digit seeds. Heck, I'm surprised Georgia didn't beat the Gophers once.
I think Georgia lost when they played the first game against the Gophers and lost on the walkoff. That was their opening. I really didn't think they had a chance today.

Different years, different things I think. I remember the Gophers hosting a regional a while back and they lost so it does happen.

Yes, well that and the top seeds usually get homefield.

Where are you getting your info? According to NCAA.com, 8 of the top 16 lost at least one game.

This bracket shows all teams with 0 losses. But now that I look closely, that is only for the upcoming super regional.

I was watching the game today and two things were puzzling to me:

1. Even they were the top seed and playing at home the Gophers led off and played the top of each inning. :conf2:
2. When you substitute a player (such as a pinch runner) the player being substituted can come back and play? :confused2:

I believe each player in the batting order can be subbed for one time during the game and return.

Also, I believe the "home" team designation as regards batting rotates during a regional

Correct on both counts. The 9 players in the field and designated player (if the team chooses to use one) can all be substituted for and re-entered one time.

Home teams for regional games generally speaking are predetermined.

The super regional will have the host team (Minnesota) be home once, away once, and then if necessary home again in game 3 IIRC.

Pioneer Press has a good article on the Gopher Softball Team. Goes through the runs of the past and how amazing the dominance has been so far this postseason.

Getting to the Series would be amazing.

Is it too much to ask that the Gophers make it and Florida doesn't? Or if they both make it it is the Gophers that eliminate Florida?

I'm guessing it is too much to ask.

Minnesota plays great defense. So, LSU scores the first run of the game in the third without getting a hit. Of course.

Now MAYBE you meant that we need to play like Minnesota has all season...but most of the time when people post that way they mean it the negative way (you know...like when Eeyore21 does it) and you know it. It doesnt help that you were Eeyore21 before Eeyore21 was  That wasnt after the game either that was when the score was 3-1. It didnt age well.

We all take our lumps when we post and it gets proven wrong. You arent special or anything that is just how the game is played :)
