I like how WCCO is careful to give no names while KSTP names both of the accused.

To be honest, both directions have their merit. The information in the arrest records is public since they're adults, so just reporting the facts makes sense. On the other hand, if it happens to turn out that there wasn't anything wrong, just having been accused can linger over them the rest of their lives.

What I want to know how is how does a random booking of imho relatively obscure student athletes make it onto any media member's radar?

Not saying it shouldn't be publicized just curious how word of something like this gets out.

I would guess is a combination of tips to various news outlets and reporters perusing the daily intake records for local jails for local athletes, celebrities, and regular GPL ;) posters.

Gopher Softball finishes #8 in the polls (USA Today and Coaches) as well as #7 in RPI - all program highs.
8 returning starters, graduate 4 seniors.

Great season for them. Kudos!

Not exactly Gophers baseball, and I can't actively cheer for the ugly helmets, but it is nice to see a northern team in the College World Series final.

Gopher volleyball off to a slow start, getting swept by No. 3 ranked Texas this evening. Tonight the 0-3 score was not indicative of the play, as the Gophers went 0-14 in set point conversions...they really struggled in closing sets out when they were serving, something that clearly needs work.

A former Gopher Volleyball player will be the Grand Marshall of Homecoming this year, Michelle Brekke. She was Michelle Hank back when she played and I knew her, we had friends in common and a class or two together. She had an amazing 37 year career at NASA which lead to this honor.

As #7 overall seed in the tournament. I was hoping the 2 wins to end the season, especially over PSU would bump them up to 5 or so, but they get to start out at home.

Gopher Women's Basketball beat Notre Dame last night. Notre Dame is usually pretty good on the women's side. Lindsey is going to get this program on the map and do some damage.

I had given up on them down 2-1 in sets and 24-22 in the fourth. The Blue Jay's had two match points, but the Gophers held on to win 26-24 and even the match, then cruised in the fifth.

I was really mad at myself for giving up in the mid 4th set. Went to bed assuming they lost. Still mad about it.

At the bar last night watching the skunks getting hammered, the gals were on only one of the TVs. Didn't think anybody was watching until they came back to win the fourth set. The place erupted. Pretty cool.

That was quite a cold blooded effort by the team. The Creighton fans were rubbing their spirit sticks thinking they were about to erupt in victory.....close but no cigar. It's a long drive back to the nothingness of their home state. :)

As poorly as they were passing, they were lucky to be close in the fourth. Even CC was getting aced last night, she's usually a star passing. Without good passes the sets were too far off the net and no tempo to their game.

Tuned in to ESPN3, waiting, and waiting for the cast to start, 9 minutes late so far. Screen still shows Event about to begin, please stand by. Gonna miss the first set at this rate.

Now we're 20 minutes late...no info on what's happening.

Finally started a out 6:15. Gophers struggling a bit again. Trailing Florida 2-1 right now. Spotty passing again is hurting them. When they pass well they run their offense and control the match, they pass poorly they struggle mightily.

Even though the game has changed drastically since I played (and these ladies play at a drastically higher level than I ever did), it still all starts with a serve and a pass. Last night Florida served more aces, but also more serve errors that the Gophs. When the Gophs pass well, even the 6'-8" trees Florida sports can't stop their offense. When the setter has to run around the court and bump set high outside, the big block eats them up. Pass well and keep moving on, pass poorly and go home to play club till next season.

I am certainly no volleyball expert - not even close - but it seems to me the Gophers' front is a super strong point while their back court is a weakness. They also don't serve particularly well.

Is this an accurate assessment?

Good question. Getting to the elite 8 this year is quite an accomplishment. Louisville is either on a cinderella run or helped the Gophers by eliminating Texas for them. If they can get by Cinderella that's the Final Four. And like George has stated IF the passing game is working the Gophers are deadly.

I think they are pretty balanced. In past years they've had trouble when they ran into a team like Stanford a couple years ago with big blocks. They are not as big up front as other top teams. Regan is their only tall regular at 6'-5". Some of the teams have multiple players 6'-6" or bigger. They depend on smart blocking, great setting and fast offense to beat big blocks. That's why they struggle so when the passes aren't there. Other top teams have big hitters who can beat the block even when the set is high and outside. Usually the Gophs need a set to be quick and on target so the block can't set up.

Edit:. Also CC isn't all conference for nothing. She makes the back line pretty good all by herself. She's a big key, when she's on her game the team does well, she's off so is the team.

Great looking match for the Gophers. Only trailed at all a few times and never by more than one or two points.

Good luck in Pittsburgh, ladies.

The goal is always the same in every sport. Finish higher than the BADgers.
Screw that - bring home the Natty and that takes care of itself
Kinda what I was getting at. Would sting to make a FF but have the BADgers go further, so don't let that happen.

Great win ladies. That's a stacked Final 4. Best of luck.

Might have been an even game (or close to an even game) if Stanford didn't have Plummer. What a dominate player she is!

The Gopher have a terrific program, but just can't seem to get over the hump. As fans of the old Brooklyn Dodgers used to say, "Wait 'til next year".

For one thing we're consistently shorter than other top teams. We depend on 6' outsides like Samady and Rollins who have to play against too many 6'-6" players like Plummer. I still wish McCutchen would recruit some height.

In a news conference, [Hennepin County Attorney Mike] Freeman said there was “inadequate evidence” to prosecute the case (against Gopher wrestlers Gable Steveson and Dylan Martinez).

Looks like they have a couple of blue-chip outside hitters in the 2020 class, both at 6-3+.

Gopher women's hoops team loses leading scorer. Also, the teams 2nd leading scorer and her sister refused to play in protest last week.

Ya, that's really strange.

My son was benched by his coach this year for the last 6:00 minutes of a PW tournament game for getting a minor penalty. Top scorer, leader, never gets penalties. He was blindsided, I think we'll request a transfer!

Apparently this person can’t be called out? Good luck in life.

Just because she hadn’t been disciplined before, doesn’t mean it wasn’t an issue before.

Yeah, this smells like brats being upset they didn't get their way. You're a junior, grow up or leave. She chose to leave.

Lindsey has her hands full... especially when most of the players on the roster go on to twitter to support her. We've heard Bob and Richard both say while the season has not been exactly what they've wanted so far, they enjoy coaching their teams every day. Probably not going to hear that from Whay.

From what I have gathered from various reports, Whalen pulled her out of a game a week or so ago and benched her for the 4th quarter. Pitts stayed there after the game and did not go the the locker room, and people had to go out to find her. Things then have gone downhill since then.

^^That's the story I've seen/heard. She was so upset about being benched that she never returned to the locker room after the game.

Weird situation. She's got some support from a couple teammates too (two stayed home on their recent road trip as a way to "support" Pitts).
Of what I've heard, Whalen is in her right.

She displayed inappropriate “body language” in a game. What does that mean? Flipping someone off maybe?

I'm speechless. I've seen this happen at a much lower level before to what I considered a fantastic coach but I never thought I'd see this with this coach. Weird.
