Colome is the guy that's got to go! He has been a complete disaster! Why does Baldelli keep bringing him in with the game on the line??
1) he likely won't be back next season (he's on a one year deal)
2) he hadn't pitched for 7 days
3) before yesterday he'd allowed like 2 runs in his previous 10 outings.

Willians Astudillo has a lower ERA than 27 of the 31 actual pitchers who've appeared in a game for the #MNTwins this season.

Ohtani/Astudillo, you can’t think of one without the other.

One is a specimen of athleticism, and the other plays for the Angels. Right? :)

Twins beat Detroit today in rain makeup game. Bailey Ober was very good and the bullpen did a nice job.

Colome allowed two base runners in the 9th, one infield single and one error (on himself).
Bailey Ober continues to be very effective. 6 innings, 5 hits, 5 Ks, 2 runs on 78 pitches.

That would be the highlight.

This is the first game I've watched all summer.

The Twins let a struggling pitcher off the hook multiple times early and then ran themselves out of the 8th inning with a questionable tag attempt on a fly ball barely past the infield dirt.

Almost impressive in 2021, to have nine hits in a game and only score one run.

I saw the pitch on which the Cubs homered. It was a legit pretty good pitch location, drifting a little high and back into the zone. The hitter made a nice adjustment on it and got out ahead of it to extend his swing.

I thought maybe it was a two seam fastball that lost a little too much velocity...anybody remember that pitch?

Statcast says 90mph four-seam that caught the upper corner of the strike zone. I'm not sure where the catcher set up, but I would guess he was trying to throw that pitch a couple inches farther inside off the plate and missed his spot.

He did say he missed it but that the pitch was not likely going to be a strike if he didn't swing.
Hitter just kept his hands inside and got the bat head out front and found a barrel on it. Good piece of hitting on a tough pitch to hit, ball was tailing in and was basically at the top inside corner of the zone.

As always the Rube is correct. :biggrin2: The player who last batted in the previous inning is the player put on second at the start of the next inning. A pitch runner can be used but then the player who is run for is out of the rest of the game (just like any other time somebody is pitch run for).

This crabby old lout would love to have Bally’s stop playing commercials DURING play. I’ve seen it twice today. Not those between batter split screen commercials, full cut away miss a pitch or two.

Colome missed his spot with a cutter. Up and inner half. Judge is strong enough to muscle it out to right field.

Based upon a one year sample size, have the Twins ever signed a less effective late inning pitcher? He’s Tuuurable!

Colome missed his spot with a cutter. Up and inner half. Judge is strong enough to muscle it out to right field.
Based upon a one year sample size, have the Twins ever signed a less effective late inning pitcher? He’s Tuuurable!
Yes. Matt Belisle and Matt Capps come to mind immediately (they initially traded for Capps then signed him again).

Please don’t bring him back! He is awful!! I knew when he came in today that he would serve up a home run ball!

If the Twins played only the Yankees for a 162 game season, could they win 10 games?

For someone who likes to look this stuff up: of the last 162 meetings against the yankees, how many games have we won?

Regular season only, 49-113 I believe. Obviously worse if you include the postseason.

Obviously we will never be faced with this scenario as the networks will never give up the 100 Yankee-Red Sox games we have annually now.

Wild guess...must have something to do with ratings.

Yes, let’s include postseason for fun! What’s our record in a “season” of games?

All time they are 769-1131 against the Yankees.

They are 49-113 against them since 1999 (including today and the playoffs).

Jeez.
Joe Ryan throwing an absolute gem of a game (again) takes a missile mine drive right off the back of his throwing hand and leaves the game immediately. He knew immediately and slammed his glove down in the dugout. Hopefully it isn't broken.
Twins can't get any kind of good luck this season.

Hopefully just a bruise and not a break. The way he walked off immediately he knew he wasn’t going to be able to pitch anymore today. I can guarantee you the trainers and staff would not allow him to either.

He was opening and squeezing his fist as he walked out. It’s at least a hopeful sign.

A playable ball ruled a hit that could just as easily have been ruled an error, a passed ball, and another error.

Not great.

Emmanuel Clase isn't human.
101mph cut fastball that cuts 8-10 inches. It's silly.

Add another oddity to this season. Granted, it is no great loss that he can't make the trip. What a bust of a signing.

The Tigers had both Inky and Rob Deer in their lineup for about 100 games in 1991. Truly men before their time. Looks like the Orioles also had Reynolds and Davis in their lineup together one season.

But really, who cares? Sano also flew out today and it counted the same as his strikeout.

This is the first time I’ve seen baseball pants cut like biker shorts (#11 Bichette for the birds). Wtf. I think they look good long, or the ones below the knee to show the socks. But actually cut like above the knee like biker shorts looks terrible!

Hunter Pence wore his pants like this when he played for San Francisco. Looks completely idiotic.

It's been a while since a Twins pitcher showed something to get me excited about the future. :good2:
