Do they have a 20 run rule?!
Not that it would have made much of a difference, but I did read that the Gophers left three of their top pitchers at home to prepare for their next series.

That’s good to see cause everyone seems to have collective amnesia that the last third of the season last year he was very average.

Read this morning that he's pacing himself more this spring to better maintain his strength toward the end of this season.

Essentially: work smarter, not harder.

He set a career high in IP last season and we saw a drop in velo in spin rate late in the year as a result.
He spent a lot of the offseason focusing on better rest/recovery programs and movement efficiency (along with the usual endurance, strength etc).

He focused in late August/early September last year on his recovery more (reportedly getting deep tissue massages after each start and his ERA in his last 4 September starts was 3.11, and that includes a start where he gave up 5 runs in 6 innings. His one post-season start he gave up 1 run in 4 innings before being pulled.

He spent a lot of the 2018 offseason and 2019 trying to make strength gains (think: bulk up). This offseason they spent more time working on more high-rep/low weight endurance type exercises, flexibility work, and body care (things like massage, yoga, pilates, etc.) Where you are still getting stronger without putting high impact repetitions on yourself like you would with heavy squats/bench press etc.

They are, in essence, working with him on using his body more efficiently: Using his legs better, getting more flexibility out of his hips and core.
Recent studies have shown that as the season progresses, MLB pitchers lose rotational range of motion on their hips which can cause a change in their mechanics which can lead to decrease in velo, spin rate, etc. (not to mention significantly increase injury rate because they over correct the velo drop by putting more stress on shoulders and elbows). This leads to fatigue, which is what we saw Berrios battle in July and August.

I believe there is a 34% truth factor in your statement, using the last 5 years of analytical data. However, if we stretch that back to 10 years, the "truth" factor declines to about a 20% input of truth.

Or something.

Yankees announced today that Luis Severino has a partial tear to his UCL and will likely need TJS. Big blow for their rotation.

Larnach is tearing it up...presents a tough problem, no room in the outfield and he needs to play every day...

Trade Rosario and get whatever arm(s) you can get?

The trouble is there's not really a big market for Rosario. He's an average outfielder based on last year. He makes some big plays in big moments and can come up with some clutch hits, but he's also got 0 plate discipline and seems to space out at times in the outfield.
We'd probably get no better than a #4 pitcher for him unless we include a prospect.

I love Larnach and Rooker but it's a little early to trade away an established big leaguer for them. Especially when they have designs on a World Series.

If Eddie gets off to a hot start and Rooker or Larnach tear it up again in the minors I could see him being a piece in a deadline move for a stud SP, but I don't think the team wants Jake Cave to be the LF on opening day. Especially given Buxton's injury issues.

Larnach will probably start in AA or AAA with Rooker. The Twins positional roster is basically already set. It just depends on how many pitchers they'll carry.

Buxton Rosario Kepler
Donaldson Polanco Arraez Sano
Garver Avila
Cruz

Bench will be Marwin, Adrianza, and then one or two of Cave, Wade Jr., and Astudillo.

Yeah Eddie is good in our lineup but I think he is more of a product of it than anything and most teams know that. No one is giving anything up for him.

Noah Syndergaard needs TJS. Out until at least April 2021. Probably later.

Twins may have dodged a bullet there.

I’d actually like to see game 7 of either World Series win again. For me I’d almost rather see 1987 because I was on a plane to Berlin that night and have never seen the game.

You can thank my dad and his poor planning that we had to be on a plane that night. Of course he may not have wanted me screaming loud enough to wake the entire hotel again like I did when Hrbek hit the Slam in game 6

I have never seen game 6 of the '91 series in its entirety.

Heard the radio call of the last inning in the car with my & Bill Garnaas, the QB on the Gopher 1941 national championship team, we were giving him a ride home. My grandpa played for Bierman in '45-'46 and brought by dad, uncle, and me to a "Bernie's Boys" reunion that happened to be that night. I would have missed World Series game 10 out of 10 times to attend that event.....amazing experience.

SNIP: direct links to 87/91 World series games.

EDIT: I just made my playlist public. 87 Game 5 vs Detroit, all of the 87/91 World Series except 91 game 5 (not sure why I don't have that one), and 1980 Olympics, USSR and Finland:

Holy bleep. This is awesome. Thank you!

I was born in '91, so obviously have never seen any of these in their entirety. Just skimmed through a bit of the ALCS game. All the mustaches.

I'm sending this to my mom, she will be pumped! She always tells the story about how everyone went to the Dome after they beat the Tigers to welcome the team back.

I have both Twins World Series DVD sets. I might need to finally crack those open!

For those with MLB Network I heard on the evil neighbor this AM they are replaying 2009 game 163 this morning at 10:15 but I have not seen it on their listings.

The 1987 Game 6 and 7 have been playing on ESPN Classic quite a bit lately.

There’s a countdown of the 20 greatest games. That game is previewed as the 16th at 11am Sunday (CST) and the game is on at noon. At least that is how it is currently listed on MLB network. I was at that game. And since I was not lucky enough to attend any of the World Series games live, I would have to say that thus far that has been the best baseball game I’ve attended. It was electric!
Thanks for posting or I might not have found this, I know what I’m doing Sunday!

SNIP: direct links to 87/91 World series games.

EDIT: I just made my playlist public. 87 Game 5 vs Detroit, all of the 87/91 World Series except 91 game 5 (not sure why I don't have that one), and 1980 Olympics, USSR and Finland:
Yes thanks!!

Ended up watching G7 as well. Uttered many times:

"Throw a freaking strike, Erickson!"
"Knobby get back in the ****ing box!"

The 2nd was more frequent and maddening hence the more severe language.

For those who subscribe to The Athletic, Gleeman has been doing a simulated version of the Twins season where he's the manager. For the soccer fans around it sounds a little similar to playing Football Manager. He's publishing the results for each week's worth of games and it's been a fun read.

The even better part is that Dan Hayes (The Athletic's main Twins beat writer) has been 'evaluating' Gleeman's managerial moves and writing mini columns on it. They've been poking fun at Gleeman but have also been pretty entertaining.

Everyone has been doing their “who would you rather hang out with” lists. The Twins finally did it right. No brainer. Dugout 5.

#2. If I hadn't been two years old maybe I wouldn't be so frustrated with MN sports as the two Twins titles seem enough to tide people over still.

Dumb question. FSN is airing the '87 World Series. They come back from break and there are a few fans with whistles. The announcer (Al Michaels) says that the whistles are out in full force. For those who are old enough to remember, where whistles that prevalent in the Metrodome back then? When did they stop using them? How loud was that place if the whistles were in full force?

I did get to go to two of the games, and I'm definitely old enough to remember any whistling, but I don't recall it being anything unusual. I guess I was too caught up in the action and in the 80's it wasn't a big deal, like "The Wave".

I could be wrong but I thought the whistles were really just from the players’ wives so overall not that many.

That's what I remember too. Whenever they showed the wives on screen, you would see the whistles.

And the whistles were never out in the regular season.
