The one guy on the Sox you need to be careful with, and Gibby serves up a meatball

See I wanna be mad at the twins in the field but I know they’ll just make up for it with their bats so what’s the point.

Obviously a mistake pitch location, but I just don't understand that 1st pitch FB with 1b open and a light hitter next...he just can't seem to get out of his own way most nights...

Gibson does it again! Given a lead & can’t hold it once again! He is what he is & he is not going to get any better! They would be foolish to resign him! Whatever they are paying him is more than he’s worth!!

I just want the HR record (and the Yankees not to catch up and pass it)
Lead us out of Loserville, Bob.
104 big four seasons with no finals appearance
Times advanced in playoffs last 15 seasons: Vikings 3, Wild 2, Twins 0, Wolves 0
1967 last football conference title, 1982 last basketball conference title, 2003 last hockey national championship

Kyle Gibson’s salary for 2019 is $8.1 million. It is a one year contract. It’s time for him to go! He’s been here 5 years & has shown little improvement or reliability as a starting pitcher! Don’t think he is worth $8.1 million & I can’t imagine him getting that on the free agent market. The Twins should have traded him at the trade deadline for some bullpen help!

$8M for a guy right around the league average for ERA is a pretty good deal. Heck, Odorizzi can’t even get through the 6th inning (I think he’s got 9 quality starts all year) and some places think he’s worth as much as $17M next year.

Gibson is what he is. He’s a back of the rotation starter with an ERA slightly under the league average. I’d love some of what you’re smoking if you thought the Twins could have gotten anything close to Major League ready talent for a guy like that and that he should have actually been traded.

They've added bottle fill fountains next to all the regular water fountains too, which is convenient. Target Field also allows outside food. Here are the guidelines:

Beverages
Sealed, bottled water 32 oz. or less, and soft sided single juice or milk containers for children are the only outside beverages permitted into Target Field. Flavored water, performance beverages (Gatorade, Powerade, etc) are NOT permitted into Target Field. Guests may bring liquids required for legitimate medical purposes into Target Field.

Food
The Minnesota Twins permit guests to bring food into Target Field as long as items are consumed in the general seating areas. Outside food cannot be brought into any restaurant, club lounge or suite. Food containers must be soft-sided and fit under a guest's seat. Food that could be thrown as a projectile should be sliced or sectioned (i.e. apples). Additionally, any food purchased from the concession areas on Target Plaza is allowed into Target Field.

It's doubly-funny if you know how truly difficult/impossible it is for most Germans to pronounce the word "Squirrel"   Every time my kids rib me for butchering my German pronunciation, I just reply with "Squirrel?"...and they shut up. :D

And also, this. I love this.
Guy went 4/5 with 3 doubles and a HR. And he's watching film immediately after the game. Still in full uniform.

This is one (of many) things I loved about the signing of Cruz. His impact and work ethic and dedication to the craft of hitting has absolutely rubbed off on the young guys. He's been a tremendous addition. And he's freaking MURDERING the ball.

He reminds me of Jim Thome. Universally loved/respected. Very professional. I hope he plays for the Twins until he’s 50.

I can’t get enough of Nelson Cruz. Like Thome I didn’t pay any attention to Cruz before he became a Twin and now I am a huge fan.

Lead us out of Loserville, Bob.

Wait, that was when we all hated smallball. My bad.
You do realize that a team can hit homeruns and play great defense, right?
I do realize that. However, when one tries to improve one area, another one usually suffers. Usually.

With the “new baseball” a record that won’t stand for long.

Does MLB really think fans enjoy seeing the players playing ball in their pajamas with their cute nicknames on them?

It was a welcome distraction for Twins fans and rather appropriate for the sleep walking home team. I've said all year Berrios is the talent, but he's a long way from becoming a dominant pitching ace. Throwing a flat, poorly located slider in that situation was risky, given that his wheels were wobbling and his confidence was shaken. Instead of battling his way through a tough spot, he succumbed to the gravity of the moment - and sealed the loss for a team that now is 1-3 against teams the experts thought they would feast on.

Totally agree with Berrios not being a number one or the “ace” of the staff. Seems like the problem is between his ears. How many sliders in the grand slam AB. The guy was obviously sitting on it and he hung it right in the happy zone. Pitching 101 fastball up and in, slider low and away.

The grand slam was run number five and the Twins offense scored six.

Which has zero to do with the gravity of that moment...the Twins were up 3-0 going into the inning, and Berrios frankly blew the game in that half of the frame. The game changed on that single swing...and everybody knew it.

That the bullpen came in and surrendered yet more runs was a surprise to no one.

Berrios is taking his lumps now, but he is our best starter and am confident he’ll get it together going forward. He’s an ace, hopefully this season he proves it.

He's an "Ace" for the Twins... kind of like how Brad Radke was an "Ace". He'd be a 3rd starter for most of the other contending teams. Berrios hasn't been an Ace for quite some time now. In fact, he's pretty much been a liability for the last month.

Bradke was a junkballer. Berrios is a power pitcher. I’d hate to think of what you’d done with Frank Viola as he struggled to become the ace. 🤭

The Radke I remember had a league-average fastball, a decent slider and a good change up. I don't consider any of those pitches as "junk" balls. His stuff was by no means filthy. He was just a very good control pitcher who rarely got himself in trouble by walking hitters. Radke was also an inning eater; Berrios seems to get the early hook more often than not.

Berrios has a good fast ball and a nasty slider...when it's working. When it's not, the ball ends up in the second deck just inside the left field foul pole. :)

Radke was boiled garbage his first two seasons. Berrios is basically where Brad was in his third season, when he won 20 with a 3.87 era. I think Berrios is going to keep getting better and he’s pretty good now.

Brad was boiled garbage his first two seasons. His third, he had his best win total and never won more than 15 again. He was pretty mediocre on some 90 win teams. Berrios has a 3.53 era currently and that would give him three consecutive years with a sub-4.00 era (Brad had four total). Brad did the best he could, but he’s the example of a contending teams third starter, not Berrios. Berrios has gotten better each year, he’s going to finish figuring it out this season.

Players Weekend uniforms. Kinda coincides with the LLWS the last couple years. They put their nicknames on the back and all that kind of stuff.

I didn't make the comparison to Radke in the first place. I simply remarked Radke was not a junk ball pitcher.

At any rate, I have more hope for Berrios than anyone else on the staff....after watching the first half of tonight's game, I see that the hapless Tigers have had runners in every inning and Gibson has 65 pitches in 3 and one third innings....classic shutdown performance by "Gibby" after Berrios' flame out yesterday...this staff would be crucified in the playoffs.

Oh boy. On top of an earlier error by Arraez, Twins just blew a run down that most high school teams know how to execute.

Seventy-four pitches through 4 and score now 1-4 against an "inferior team."

8 hits now by Tigers against shut down Gibby...while the Twins struggle against a guy who has played for 14 teams and counting.

I remember when someone suggested not to panic because the Twins will have the easy Cleveland schedule coming up...

Also, the infield defense is little league like. It's like watching the Gophers lose to St Lawrence

Guys it's all about the hr record and we can celebrate it for a whole year
Lead us out of Loserville, Bob.
104 big four seasons with no finals appearance
Times advanced in playoffs last 15 seasons: Vikings 3, Wild 2, Twins 0, Wolves 0
1967 last football conference title, 1982 last basketball conference title, 2003 last hockey national championship

I thought of the St. Lawrence analogy, too. Gophers seem to let down for teams everyone thinks they should beat.

Yeah, that person who told us not to worry won't come back unless the Twins eke out a division win. And then he'll squawk like a chicken and ridicule fans for ever doubting it. Like college professors of economics twirling their beards while recklessly throwing out baseless predictions. They take credit if they're right and stay quiet when they're wrong.

Twins with some shoddy baseball and an unimpressive record at home this season.
