Mauer has a chance for a clutch hit. Let's see how this plays out.
Base still open for a walk right?
No
Took first pitch then F7. 0-4.

Jason Castro is 0/3 with 3 Ks. He's had 5 runners on base, 4 RISP.

The Twins are carrying 3 catchers and have a HR waiting to happen sitting in the dugout not on the roster because Adalberto Mejia, Ryan Pressley, and Buddy Boshers were more important to this game.

The Mauer talk has gotten just stupid. Yes, he sucks tonight. But the story is the two Twins "aces" went 4 innings while giving up 7 runs. SEVEN. That wins most games going away and the Yankees had it in the fourth.

Lineup is in.... love the 5 straight lefties against Severino. Really think they can do damage.

Dozier
Mauer
Polanco
Rosario
Escobar
Kepler
Buxton
Castro
Grossman
They did well for 1/3 of a inning. Just chased him to soon.

I know this guy has made a living taking that first pitch then pushing singles to the opposite field. But wouldn't it make sense if your team is down 3 runs in Yankee Stadium in a one and done format to swing at that first pitch that you GODDAMN KNOW is an 85 mph fastball down the middle of the plate? Maybe just once take that opportunity for glory?

Only 6’5” 240lb guy I’ve seen that tries to play baseball like a 5’7” 150lb guy.

Might be time for him to go sell some Chevrolet’s with his brother.

Rosario with a terrible throw ruins any chance of a double play and probably costs a legit chance to get Judge at 3B (and really, Judge should have been able to score cuz the ball bounced away quite a bit).

Jason Castro is HORRIBLE. I feel sick to my stomach.
Really? Nothing about the Twins against the Yankees (in the playoffs) makes me feel much of any emotion anymore. I've seen this movie before, even if most of the characters aren't the same as years past.

EDIT: Actually I was mad when I saw Granite miss the base. Not because it probably would have made a difference, but it's kind of amazing the way they can find new ways to embarrass themselves against NYY.

I've lost count on how many times the Yankees have done this to the Twins in the past 20 years, but it's like a bad Hollywood movie remake over and over. Yankee Bitches Part ??

It was really pretty fun. I really didn’t think they would get this far... and of course it ends against the Yankees. Tradition.

I'm sure some will still defend Mauer, but this game is a microcosm of his career. Completely useless any time he's needed.

With that said, Santana was the main reason for this loss. The ace needs to perform in that position.

Pitching in general. Until that gets fixed this team won’t make a legit run. Tease maybe but no happy endings.

He had a good year and had decent numbers but I honestly can’t wait for the Twins to move on from Joe Mauer. It will be a positive for all involved. The Twins can completely turn to the next chapter for the franchise. I think the fans and Mauer himself would all be happier.

I will definitively say that Ervin was the reason we lost this game. You get a couples zeros on the board and the game feels completely different. I love Ervin and feel for him, just talking this one game. Tough to swallow.
