Part of me wants to see Minnesota teams do well, while another part of me says screw 'em. They wouldn't be cheering for us.

If this was 10 years ago I might be more for another Minnesota team winning it all. But having to listen to friends of mine who are fans of other MN teams revel in the Gopher's struggles of the past 5 or 6 years has gotten me to the point where I'm pulling for a team from Massachusetts. Hell I'd probably cheer for BC, BU or maybe even Michigan before I cheered for any of the other MN teams. That might be sacrilegious to say here but that's where I'm at. If Mankato wins it, good for them. If st cloud wins it I'll do my best to let them have their moment. If UMD wins it then God help us all.

I'll take Mankato. Some good MN connections.

For the rest of the country who don't really even know what college hockey is, they're gonna take one look at that bracket and go WTF? Talk about zero cachet. Three teams from fly over country and one east coast team that is not BU or BC.

I am astonished Duluth managed to pull this off yet again. I honestly felt UND was a much better team than Duluth. I swear they're like cockroaches. You just can't kill them.

I do expect UMass or Mankato to come out on top.

That's certainly true. They just assume that anyone in Minnesota will cheer for them if their own team isn't involved, but they always cheer as hard as they can for any team playing against the Gophers.

I was cheering for UMD back in 2011, but after the reactions I've had from UMD fans ever since, there's no way in :censored: I'm every actually cheering for them again. Saturday night I wasn't cheering for UMD... I was cheering against North Dakota

On the national stage Minnesota Professional Sports, Gopher Football, Gopher Basketball can be quickly summed up with some combination of small market, also ran, underdog, and in at least one case historically incompetent.

Honestly, I can still embrace the hate that comes with Gopher Hockey fandom. It is refreshing to have one of my teams get the "Yankee" or "Maple Leaf" treatment. The fact that our MSU,SCSU,UMD, Bemidji brethren are not letting up is good news. It means our "Blue Blood" reputation is not gone and that deep down the inferiority complex is still alive and kicking.

My FF Preferences
1. Mankato
2. St. Cloud
3. Duluth
4. UMass

I'm pulling for Mankato. I don't give two sh*ts about whether THEIR fan base would ever pull for the Gophers; I'd just like to see them win it all. As noted by others, I've always been proud to be a Gopher and proud that others would give their left nut to beat the team I bleed for. There's no higher praise to me than to have a competitor measure their ultimate success by besting your team. Wisconsin and UND will always be a "NEVER!!!" for me; beyong those two I'm not horribly vehement against anyone.

The problem to me is that no matter who the Gophers play, they cheer against us... yet expect us to cheer for them against anyone else. Sorry, no.

I am pulling for Mankato. A buddy of mine played there and he has had heartbreak each year. He isn’t insufferable at all about the Gophers other than having the standard little brother mentality. I also think Mike Hastings deserves it for the job he has done there. They would root for the Gophers but whatever.

So for me it would be:
1. Mankato
2. UMass
3. COVID
4. COVID

Doug Woog - 1990

This quote was written on the chalkboard in a lockeroom in the old Ralph Engelstad arena my Squirt team used the day after the Gophers used it and came into the game ranked #1 in the nation and lost 6-1 to a second rate Whioux team.

Overhead on SiouxSports.com - Why does every thread always turn into a "Gopher" thread? Is there a secret infatuation with them?

Obviously I’m pulling for the 3 peat! But...in the event UMass prevails on April 8th, I’ll be pulling for the winner of SCSU vs Mankato. My preference Sunday afternoon was beating UMass in the semifinals then playing the Gophers in the Final, but Mankato had something to say about that.

I'm weird with college hockey. As soon as the Gophers are out, I don't want any team to win it. Obviously a team has to win, but I find myself cheering against teams way more than cheering for teams. Leads me to rarely watch the Frozen Four.

I don't think fans of the other schools expect Gopher fans to root for their teams - at least not the hard core ones.

Proud to see 3 Minnesota teams in the Frozen Four.

Order of Preference
Mankato
St Cloud
Duluth
UMass

Duluth would be higher if they weren't riding 2 straight. My wife is from the Range and so is all in on Duluth. She might sway me if it is St Cloud vs Duluth.

I read what you’re saying but I don’t understand it. I LOVE Gopher hockey, but I love hockey period! Of course I would prefer the Gophers hadn’t crapped the bed after a great year, but the fact that 3 MN teams are in a 4 team tourney is spectacular. We’re going to Pittsburgh, we went every year because it was great hockey so we’re going now. We’ve cheered for other teams, :censored: we cheered for Duluth. Your attitude smacks of the dreaded Whoiux! They don’t give a crap about hockey, only their own team. They aren’t fans of the game and don’t show up otherwise.

My heart says I’ll root for Mankato but I’d love to see a Duluth vs SCSU smack down championship.
Honestly I’m surprised the road to Hell is paved at all.

My boss, being a donor, got two tickets from MSU for the first day...both games. He said the athletic dept. told him that team allotment was 300 tickets. Just thought I would share that info with everyone.

We passed on traveling this year. Not for our concern, but if 1 COVID test pops and a game is no contest - then that would really suck. Just feels too uncertain to us on the games side.

Wait wasn’t much interested in getting into why this native of Edina, Minn., decided to transfer to UMass, other than to say, “Mainly because it’s like a family here, pretty much.”

He was a Lucia recruit that wasn't going to play more than a 4th line role for MN. Since he wasn't a Motzko recruit, or a high profile player, I'm guessing Bob didn't have much of an investment in him. ( see Moe ) The "family" comment makes me chuckle as he is shown in many Instagram pics with a lot of the current Gophers as recently as last summer. Munson was in a similar spot and proved his value to Motzko. I'm glad Wait has found a place to get more ice time. Good for him.

Good luck to all the teams. I like U Mass the team I see as having the hockey Cinderella story. The rest are all kind of together but SCSU would be second since they have tourney appearances with no titles, UMD is having a good run at the right time so they are third, Mankato with their older roster and being in the WCHA are my least. But really not feeling strongly for any of the Minnesota teams.
With the Gophers out if Bemidji had gotten to the frozen four I would be cheering for them.

For the most part, I really only "want" Mankato to win. Don't really care if it's UMass or UMD - I'm good with that as the outcome.

The only thing I DON'T want is for SCSU to win. Their fanbase would become complete insufferable bastards if they won the Championship. Well, worse than they already are...

Unbelievable luck for Duluth as of late - but good for them they didn't make the things around them happen these past few years.
If there's a no contest in the Frozen Four (and if one team gets out of 2 of 4 games) there definitely should be a huge asterisk next to any outcome for them. Hopefully UMass doesn't lose anymore players, but down their top goalie and scorer?

If there is a potential no contest for the championship I think they should play the game at a later date. Otherwise the title shouldn’t count.

“ UMass announced Tuesday that four players – Carson Gicewicz, Henry Graham, Jerry Harding and Filip Lindberg – cannot play in the Frozen Four semifinal due to COVID-19 contact tracing protocols. ”

Gicewicz is the leadings scorer and Lindberg is a goalie IIRC

we ('Kato grad spouse) were set to go to Pitt but had to cancel......

live in the Boston area so hoping to see U of M Maroon & Gold at TD Garden next year......it'll be interesting to see what 2022 brings for atmosphere......so many gathering spots near TD Garden are closed.....hopeful to see that change by next fall's NHL/NBA season start

And off we go!! Have a few things planned for Pittsburgh, hubby’s frat buddy lives there so meeting for dinner Friday. It will be weird with the limited crowd, but expect good hockey.
Enjoy. We look forward to Boston next year.
Yes! With the Gophers in attendance. So many things to do and good places to eat, we love Boston.
Honestly I’m surprised the road to Hell is paved at all.

I was just looking at that the other day. The Fours is closed, and I saw a couple of others are "temporary closed". I loved Boston the last time because of the abundance of bars around the Arena. The one bar that I thought was more of a dive, The Greatest Sports Bar, is still open I think.

Drinking a beer or two in Pittsburgh now to start the weekend. They even have a bar named after me here!! Go Mavericks!!

What a terrible place is a pub with no beer.

It gets dusty when they hit the 2002 goals. That Justin Hull one is pretty good too.

Duluth has a covid issue, but it appears to only affect 1 player. The Duluth goalie wasn't in close contact with any of his teammates? UMass losses 4 players ( 1 positive and 3 close contacts who have tested negative in all the tests since). I smell something fishy..... Plus none of the reporters who watched practice yesterday noticed or reported that Duluth was missing a goalie? ( one of the easiest positions to notice someone is missing)

Freshman goalie with 8 games vs senior with 84. I wanted Stejskal as a Gopher after seeing him in HS. Let's go ahead and not let him become a legend after one season with three huge NCAA games.

If it's SCSU vs UMD, IMO the best three teams in the country were all in the NCHC.

I don't think Mankato has registered one yet.

Just calling it like I see it. The hockey is better. Until someone can knock them off in the single elim format it's not even a question cuz they dominate there, too.

Probably in the arena.
ESPN shows them periodically.

But that is one thing I do miss being on the ticker permanently.

Not sure how it works. Maybe 10 napkins in each hand as a buffer?

Meh, I’d be more worried about the awful selection. About the game, the 30 year olds need to pick it up.
